Todoroki blinks slowly, his eyes glassy. One pupil too wide, swimming in concussion fog.
Trapped on a snowy mountain with nothing but their injuries, scarce rations, and a single foil sleeping bag, Katsuki and Shoto are forced to share body heat to survive. Shoto is slipping fast, condition getting worse with every passing hour. Katsuki would walk through fire to keep him alive.
Or also: The Commission labels it an unacceptable risk and denies the rescue, calling it a "recovery mission". Aizawa, hearing his son has been written off, sets out to recuse him and the former class gremlin on his own.

Izuku leaves for America for six months; Shouto fights his way into the Top 5 Hero Rank, takes out Godzilla, reconnects with a criminal, adopts a cat, and has several belated emotional crises (not necessarily in that order). He might also be in love with Bakugou, but that's another problem altogether.
Izuku probably shouldn't leave him to his own devices anymore.

Summary
After a brutal suicide attempt, Shoto is at death's door, and Aizawa is out of options. He enlists Eri's help to rewind his condition by a few hours, but high emotions lead her to rewind him all the way back to five years old. Because of the recovery time that Eri needs before she can reverse her rewind, Shoto has to spend the foreseeable future as his five-year-old self, with no memory of the bizarre, clingy people that call themselves his classmates.
