Bloated bodies were pulled one by one from the sea. Up the beach’s cliffs they went together, Tommy’s feet dragging the entire way. The ground did nothing to conceal the smell, but it felt better. Less noticeable. It put his grief into the ground without the explosions. Without the instant removal. He was in control. And hungry. And alone. Tommy was so, so alone.
