When Max's sister signed him up for a dating show, he imagined that he would be on The Bachelor or Love is Blind (not that he wanted to do either of those). Never in his wildest dreams did he think that Victoria would sign him up for Love Island where he would be parading around in his swim suit all summer in hopes of finding love in the middle of Spain.
Max's goal then became to be as authentic as possible, not put up with any bullshit from other islanders, and to try not to cry on national television. Before leaving, Max told his sister that he would probably end up being dumped at the first chance available. Little did he know that after this summer, he would end up admitting that maybe, just maybe, Victoria granted him the biggest gift ever by submitting an application for him.

"There you are! An eclair?" He asks, ducking back into the kitchen to take out the croissants from the oven. Even through the oven gloves he wears he can feel just how hot the pan is, and he winces, placing the pan down onto the kitchen counter. There is nothing he can really do while the croissants settle down, so he wipes his hands and enters the main area.
"Not today, champ. We're here just for a moment." Daniel says.
Behind him, there stands a man. He's a new face around here, someone Max hasn't seen in the cafe before. He looks a bit dishevelled and anxious, as if standing in the cafe is making him want to crawl out of his body. His eyes move skittishly around everything as he avoids looking at Max directly. Despite Daniel's calming and cheerful demeanour, the man behind him is silent.

Looking down, Max uncrossed his ankles and sighed. “What was the question again?”
Daniel balked a little but answered easily. “So why come on this show?”
“I mean isn’t it obvious?” he asked, looking up from his hands and out into the dark of the makeshift studio where he knew the camera was, where Daniel was standing with his headset and his ipad and probably an exasperated look at his answer. “We’re all here for the same thing, I’m no different.” There was only darkness straight ahead.
Daniel’s voice, upbeat and encouraging, cut through. “And what’s everyone here for, Maxie?”
“Love, I guess,” said Max. The lights were disorienting compared to the dark and he blinked and had to look away. He amended with a tilt of his head, down, to his clasped hands. “Of course.”
Max and Charles meet in the pods on Love Is Blind. As in every setting, they push and pull and find out they're perfect for each other all along.
