Prince Baelon had another cause for celebration as well. His wife, Alyssa, was again with child. This time, he told his brother Aemon, he was praying for a girl.
The gods listen to Baelon’s prayers, and in the year 82 AC, princess Alyssa gives her husband the daughter he has longed for. The happy parents name the girl Rhaenyra to honour two Queens - Rhaenys and Rhaena. Soon, the little princess gains another name - Realm’s Delight, for she is the most delightful child under the sun, cherished by her family, the knights, courtiers and smallfolk alike.
But no one loves princess Rhaenyra more than her brothers, princes Viserys and Daemon, and mayhaps that is the reason for the trouble looming over the House of the Dragon.

Daemon nodded, taking a sip from his cup.
Viserys caught his gaze and held it. “Instead, I want you to govern, as if you were king.”
Daemon choked, spluttering and wasting the fine Arbor Gold all over the floor. “What?!”
“You say you wish to be my Hand, and later succeed me on the Iron Throne. Let us test that shall we? Discover whether you truly wish to rule the Seven Kingdoms.”
In the wake of his grief, Daemon’s words and pleas at the foot of the Iron Throne manage to touch Viserys’s heart. He had lost sight, in his quest for a son, of the family he already had. He had forgotten that House Targaryen could only be felled when it teared itself apart from the inside out.
No more.
So, rather than exile, Viserys decides to take a gamble.

Daemon had thought he knew his sister better than anyone.
The princess had her hands tucked behind the small of her back, having what appeared to be a staring match with the weeping face of the heart tree. Compared to its cousin which resided in the Red Keep, Daemon always thought the expression on Harrenhal’s heart tree more twisted, as if in sharper agony. Perhaps with the ghosts of House Hoare, still burning from the Black Dread’s flames.
On any other day, he would not have hesitated to immediately approach her, perhaps even sneak up from behind and wrap his arms around her in an embrace. But she had been behaving oddly these past few days, avoiding him even.
His steps were hesitant as he approached her, allowing the lifeless grass and leaves to crunch noisily beneath his boots until Rhaenyra finally turned to acknowledge him, purple eyes unreadable in the gloom that always seemed to hang over the molten fortress.
“Daemon,” she greeted.
“Wife.”
