Summary
Roche limit: the distance from a celestial body within which a second celestial body, held together only by its own force of gravity, will disintegrate because the first body's tidal forces exceed the second body's self-gravitation.
As the distance between the Hail Mary and Erid shrinks, as the language and cultural barriers disappear, Grace's health deteriorates and Rocky's worries skyrocket. Gally finds Thomas first. He always has. Whether it was to pull him out of the box, throw him from the walls of the maze, punch him in the face, or save him from getting shot by guards, he was always the first to arrive.
This time’s no different.
Thomas is collapsed in a pool of his own blood. He hasn’t moved in too long, too wounded, blood oozing out of him slowly and sinking into the forest floor. His body is mostly numb from the sweat that’s cooled over, but the pain in his leg is a fire.
He may never run again. May never walk. And he doesn't know what he's going to do.
