Summary
Mike Wheeler has fought interdimensional monsters. He's fed Eggos to girls with superpowers, run from the wrath of wicked forces, cut himself on death's very teeth.
And he's not much better off for it, suspicious and harsh, with a name in his head he's never been able to let go of.
It's been over a year since they were last attacked, but no one dared to hope for peace, not with their houses bugged and watched, not with a bedroom still empty in the Byers' house.
But when the lab goes silent, and strange things once again begin around Hawkins, Mike and the Party find themselves in the Upside Down with a stranger Mike knows very well.
A boy, sharp and distant and not at all like who he was, but with a face burned into Mike's memory, and a name he can't forget.

"It's been silent for a while, when Will suddenly says, "Hey."
Mike startles a little. "Yeah?"
His best friend swallows. "Do you think... do you think we'll be okay? After all this?"
Mike is quiet, thinking. He's not sure what prompted Will to ask, but he knows that in these times, in the dark, sometimes questions come unbidden.
"Yeah," he says, "I think we will."
Will turns to him, a tiny bit of desperation in his eyes. Like he's finding himself on the edge of something, and he's reaching out for a hand, for Mike, and God, Mike is so far gone on this boy.
