Hitoshi isn’t hiding. He tells himself that as he buries his nose deeper in his book and ignores the chaos going on outside. They’re all loud, laughing around the fire and drinking. No one misses him. They don’t want him here and he knows that. He’d tried to explain it to their boss, but the man had insisted he come. Team building – he’d said. And then he’d told Hitoshi that if he didn’t go, he’d lose his job.
So begrudgingly, on a Thursday he’d packed his back and hit the train station. He’d met up with them at the office building and like the rest of them, he’d climbed into the van for the three-hour long drive into the wilderness.
The door to the cabin slams open and he watches Denki stumble in, half-drunk and leaning heavily on Mina. “Toshi! My dude, what are you doing hiding in here? You should come out and join us!”
The duo topples down onto the bunk across from him giggling. When Mina sits up, she pins Hitoshi under an expectant gaze. “Yeah, come on, Toshi! Have a little fun.”
