Anne was bubbling with rage. “Billy, leave us alone.”
“Or what, dog?” Billy mocked.
And Jerry couldn’t hold his tongue after that. “You shouldn’t talk to a girl like that.”
Silence fell over the room, and Billy slowly looked down at Jerry in disbelief. “Oh yeah? And what are you gonna do about it, farm boy?”
Gilbert stood up, looking ready to intervene. “Let’s just calm down-“
But then Jerry stood up with a loud thump against the bench, and towered over Billy effortlessly. He raised an unimpressed eyebrow down at Billy’s short form.
A smug satisfaction filled his being as Billy took a step back, realizing there was quite a difference in their builds.
“I work on a farm all day every day for hours on end. What do you do?” Jerry questioned dryly.
Billy had no reply.
OR: Jerry shows up at the school to bring Anne her lunch, meets Billy, puts him in his place, wins all of the girls' heart, and is once again bold when it comes to Diana.
