For this prompt on the Kink Meme:
In a universe where people's emotions and emotional well being are reflected by a person's skin colour or tone, Sherlock just has one small ring that he keeps well hidden.
It's a solid black for a long time, but the more time he spends with John, the more the black disappears and the more intuned with his emotions he gets, and then eventually, the ring starts growing and spreading.
Bonus:-
The lack of "mood skin" is rare but not completely unheard of
Mycroft's "mood skin" is faint and more often than not, doesn't reflect his true emotions.

Sherlock Holmes is a pure-blood. John Watson is a muggle-born. It takes Sherlock no time to deduce that. The strange thing is: Sherlock envy's John because he was born into a muggle family. All Sherlock has known was the wizarding world and, predictably, he finds it boring.

Summary
After Sherlock manages to get himself and John ejected from Harrods at Christmas, the boys make the acquaintance of Baker Street newcomer, Mary Morstan. At around the same time, a message from Jim Moriarty forces Sherlock to seek help from an ‘old friend’. As Mary and John grow closer, the question of who this ‘old friend’ may be rattles John’s brain. Just who was this man to Sherlock? How exactly was a man who Sherlock hadn’t been in contact with for years going to provide aid to the detective? And what sinister plan does Moriarty have up his sleeve this time? Summary
Everyone has a Link, a one-way empathic connection to their soulmate. Finding your soulmate based on the evidence of the link can be difficult, but once you find them, one kiss and you'll be Fused, your Links united.
John still hasn't found his soulmate, but he won't give up the search, because whoever it is has been lonely ever since John's Link first emerged. Meanwhile, Sherlock maintains the fiction that he doesn't have a Link at all.
