her balance wobbly, jiang xuening brushes aside the curtains, making her way to the altar. memorial tablet of leyang zhang-gongzhu, shen zhiyi, is written in golden lettering on dark wood, with wisps of incense curling at its sides. seeing her coffin, with its patterns carved so intricately, she can almost believe that its makers cared for the person inside.
and yet she is the only one who stands here now, long after her send-off, the last to remember her.
OR, an empress has no reason to drown her sorrows in wine, except for one.

Summary
just as she makes herself comfortable, shen zhiyi sits upright, her actions flurried and urgent. jiang xuening is about to ask her what’s wrong when her princess’s hands are suddenly on her hair, brushing it aside to expose her back. she doesn’t hesitate to tug down from her collar, revealing her shoulder blades, as well as the area where her scars begin.
oh.
jiang xuening tries to shy away, retreating, but then shen zhiyi says, lowly, “who hurt you?”
OR, a scar healed, and scars to be healed.
