Summary
his breathing became labored, uneven. the tears spilled faster. the blade dug deeper, and deeper still. the blood flowed freely now, mingling with the tears dripping down his face and onto his arm. and then, he couldn’t contain himself anymore, he let out a strangled sob, loud enough for someone to hear.
there was a knock at the bathroom door, someone yelling through it, but mikey couldn’t hear. he just kept going. there was the sound of the door opening, and mikey knew that he had made a mistake by making the cry, but he didn’t care right now, it was too late for him to take it back now, or even try to hide what he had done.
there was a gasp, then the familiar rush of footsteps toward him, and the next thing mikey felt were arms wrapping around him tightly and pulling him up against their chest, gently rubbing soothing circles into his back.
it was leo, of course it was, it was always leo. mikey could tell, just by the way he held him how worried he was. his heart thudded heavily in his chest, and he buried his head in the crook of leo’s neck, feeling his tears drip steadily onto his big brother’s shoulder.

Summary
It hurts to breathe. It hurts to move. And it hurts to simply exist.
Everything hurt. He was hungry, sore, thirsty, and most pressingly, exhausted. All of those feelings combined together to overwhelm his senses.
He was also scared.
Scared because he thought, he actually thought, he might die.
Mikey never got the chance to go home, never got to finish telling everyone goodbye, that he loved them with all his heart. Instead of being with his family, who he's been with his entire life, he was laying on the dirty pavement waiting for death. Not exactly how he expected to go out if he was being honest.
Wow, Mike, way to be depressing.

Or, when off spray painting in an abandoned building one night, Mikey gets caught in a building collapse. With his phone out of reach and his panic button broken, he must now wait, trapped under the debris, with no way to contact his family. He can only hope they realize he's missing soon.
