See you next summer stretches into six long years, post cards, the occasional phone call. A broken promise only mended by Dr. Pines’ sabbatical.
Their parents offer to take them along, of course -- complete the last month of high school over correspondence, in a villa on the Amalfi coast. Mabel and Dipper both opt to stay home with Grandpap Shermie, who takes out-of-focus photos of their graduation before setting off on his own adventure, fixing up the old apartment in Glass Shard Beach with his new girlfriend.
When Stan and Ford phone to congratulate them, the call comes from the Shack’s number. The invitation is extended and accepted without thought. One last summer, just like old times.
