    Summary

Thranduil did not seem the type to try to keep friends. Yet Bard could scarcely go a day without being summoned to the Elvenking's tent, to finalize every trade and tax agreement between their two realms for the next five hundred years.

[With the first winter quickly closing in on Dale, Bard and Thranduil have very different ideas on what it means to be a leader.]

    Summary

When Bilbo's hunger for adventure gets so pressing that he cannot stay in the Shire any longer, his father Bungo sends him on a mission: take an entire packpack full of seeds and saplings to the dwarfen kingdom of Erebor and trade them with the goal of enriching the Shire's flora.

Bilbo expects to accomplish this somewhat dull task with ease, return home by the end of the season. What he does not expect is to stumble into the middle of a long-lasting feud, be made a babysitter, and fall in love with the most unlikely of dwarfs.

    Summary

“I confess, I wore it for you,” Aaravos says, extending his arms to showcase elegant trailing sleeves that drip from his wrists like rivers of starlight. He tips his head, staring at Viren with smoldering eyes. “I know what you like, after all.”

Viren is indignant, despite his embarrassment. “You know nothing about me—”

“I can see your mind, mage,” interrupts Aaravos sharply, and though he doesn’t stop smiling, his eyes flash in a dangerous way that steals the rest of Viren’s words from his throat. “Remember the chalice, the knife, the blood? You completed the spell that began our connection. This is merely the next step.” He waves his hand to the glowing silver runes inscribed upon the mirror. “I offer you this power freely, Viren,” he says. “But if you want to master it, you must first lay down your ego and submit.”

But life has a way of surprising him, as of late.

    Summary

Bard is unsure what to make of King Thranduil. The Elvenking might be regal and graceful beyond compare, but he is also cold and ruthless. Bard cannot comprehend why anyone would be so set on declaring war over a handful of gems, heedless of the lives they might lose.

But as the war for the Dwarven treasure draws nearer, Bard finds himself spending more time in the Elvenking's presence, and it would be a lie to say that he is not affected by King Thranduil's beauty — or the tension building between them.
