Stripped of Grace, you make a deal with Messmer the Impaler that in order to delay your death by his flames, you will find a way to lessen the burden of his ‘curse’ and help the suffering shamans. Along the way you two will find friendship in each other, and eventually have an unbreakable bond between a son of a god and a Tarnished stripped of light. But Messmer will never let it become something more, because it will mean to abandon his duty.
And to abandon his duty will mean abandoning his mother.
