Nefer snorts, stirring honey into her imported tea from Liyue. “Thank you Candace, you’re very kind.”
“I’m observant,” Candace corrects lightly. She crosses her arms. “Besides, you always did get sick when you’d stay up through the night. Some things never change.”
Nefer hums at that, far too tired to argue. “Doesn’t help that I woke up at dawn, I guess. But Lauma had early duties—it couldn't really be avoided.”

“I don’t like this outcome,” Lauma had said. Sweet, irrational, exactly what Nefer would expect from her.
It’s almost ironic, really—that the first thing she saw when her vision returned days later was the very expression she’d secretly hoped to see: Lauma’s relief, soft and unguarded, painted in the light of an early morning sun.
“What’s the damage?” Nefer had demanded, not daring to look in a mirror yet.
And Lauma only chuckled, shaking her head. “Absolutely nothing. You’re perfect.”

The climb is steeper than Sciel remembers, and the metal groans softly beneath her as she ascends the final ladder. Her hand ghosts along rusted beams warped by time and ink, passing the old scratched initials—lovers used to come up here, the letterings long since faded with the oxidation.
She almost laughs at herself. What was she hoping for? That the room might still feel the same? That she might feel the same?
Then she steps inside, and the moment her eyes adjust—
“Sciel,” Lune says in a breath caught somewhere in between. Her guitar disappears in a flurry of chroma particles. “Of course you’d run into me up here.”
or, Maelle stays in the canvas and life goes on, just not as Sciel once imagined.

“My,” Tingyun says cheekily, gracefully sidestepping around Aglaea with the poise of a gifted dancer. She pivots agilely on the ball of her right foot, coy gaze never leaving the Goldweaver’s stationary frame. “I never imagined I'd be handpicked by a demigod. How exciting! But I guess there's always a first for everything, right, Miss Aglaea?”
And Aglaea, to her credit, does not falter beneath the fox-eared woman’s playful gaze. Silently, she wonders how many grow flustered in Tingyun’s presence—it must be an easy feat for her, certainly. There is charm in every smile, every flick of an endearing fox ear, every stroke of a tail. Were Aglaea anyone else, she's sure she'd be under Tingyun's spell in seconds.

“The worst,” Xilonen stresses, an ear flicking incessantly. “You're the actual worst.”
Her tail swishes between the inches where their hands almost meet, though; curls itself almost possessively around Mavuika’s wrist.
And despite it all—despite her inhuman strength, and inhuman feats, and inhuman lifetime—Mavuika is human at her core. Her gaze wanders down to where Xilonen’s tail rests, where their hands rest, so close. To where her own heart could rest, easily.

Sometimes she buys Yun Jin coffee, just how she likes it—not because Yun Jin asks her but because Shenhe knows she needs it. Sometimes she carries Yun Jin to bed when she’s too tired to walk from the basement to the suite.
