Books and movies always make a big deal out of capital-L Love, but I’d thought it was all hyperbole. Surely it couldn’t be like that in real life, and certainly not for me, a no-account hood kid from the East Side. Sweeping romances like Gone With the Wind didn’t get written about people like me. But for the first time it occurred to me that that didn’t mean it couldn’t happen.
After the events of The Outsiders, Ponyboy remembers something Johnny did during their time in Windrixville. When he tells Sodapop about it, it leads to a revelation that brings them closer than ever before.
