The stairwell is chilly and quiet. Neither speaks and Dunk’s heart pounds in his ears. He wonders if Lyonel can hear it, echoing off the cold, dark stone. Up and up they go, higher into the tower. and Dunk wonders if they’re going to the roof so Lyonel can throw him off into the sea. He wonders if it would hurt to hit the waves, or if he would die on impact. Were I a bird or a fish, this would not be a problem, as I would just fly or swim away. Were Egg a dragon, he would catch me.

The post. It’s one of life’s little domesticities, isn’t it?
There’s a pile shoved so high in the letterbox that Francis briefly wonders if they’ve actually been on holiday for a week in some sort of fugue state and that’s why he doesn’t remember having ever been gone. The only thing assuring him of his continued sanity is that there was the same amount yesterday and there’ll likely be the same again tomorrow and the day after and the day after until he’s in the ground and it becomes James’ problem.
The perks of dating a younger fellow; he’s sure to go first and he won’t have to worry about dying alone in his flat anymore.
A story where James gets invited to his class reunion and Francis plans a holiday for them.
