“So, what’s so important and top secret that you had to come all the way out here from-where are you living now?” Crozier asked. His hand ghosted over the gun in his pocket.
“Hawaii. Well, not anymore.”
Crozier fought to keep his eyebrow from going up at that. The way Hickey had always talked, you’d have thought nothing could drag him away from Hawaii. Things must be even more dire than he was letting on.
Hickey took a deep breath. “Look, I know you’re not my biggest fan, but we need each other to make this work.”
Crozier let out a dry laugh. “First of all, that’s the understatement of the century. Second, you still haven’t told me what this is.”
“I’m talking about time travel.”
Crozier’s breath caught and his heart began to beat faster. He stumbled into his chair. He wasn’t sure his legs could hold him. “So that means…” he couldn’t finish the thought, couldn’t dare to hope. This was Hickey, after all. It could easily all be a practical joke.
He nodded. “Yeah. We could save James, and keep the team together.”
