Jayce Talis is the owner of Talis Cattle Company, which is currently driving their entire herd of cattle from San Antonio to Fort Smith, Arkansas. On the way, he and his cattlehands stop in Waco, Texas to restock provisions, conduct business, and prepare for the final stretch of their journey.
They’re only meant to stay in Waco for a month. But while staying in the town’s hotel, Jayce visits the saloon and meets Viktor - a trans man forced to present as a saloon prostitute in order to make a living. Against all his better judgment, Jayce falls in love.
But Viktor is not safe in Waco. He is not comfortable. He is forced to be someone else. Jayce promises to get him away from there, but he only has a month to figure out how. And Viktor isn't entirely convinced he wants to leave.- Language:

Summary
Jayce exhales, a visceral sigh flattening out of his lungs. He could do it right now. One click and this ends. It only takes a few pounds of pressure to pull the trigger. Just one squeeze of his finger and–
Viktor presses his cheek into the muzzle, nudging the barrel playfully. He looks up at him with those bright, emotive eyes, full of trust and adoration.
Jayce is a tradesman of many talents—blacksmith, butcher, and a hunter of a dying art. An inventor too, but those days were long gone. He's content with living out in the countryside where the memories of the past are dulled. The monthly meat market in town should be business as usual: machinery showcases, trade deals, and the same, nauseating push for synthetic, crossbred meats.
Instead, he’s captivated by Viktor, a lamb hybrid with a lame leg up for auction.
Or: In a world where lab-grown humanoid meat has all but replaced traditional livestock, Jayce, on impulse, takes in a rare, living hybrid boy—set for slaughter.

Jayce quiets, briefly. The apples of his cheeks gently flush, warm and pink, and he subconsciously tucks the stack of clipboards a bit closer to his chest.

Summary
Loving Viktor is easy, Jayce thinks. Easier than breathing, easier than existing. He would do anything for Viktor, who is his best friend and closest confidant. His partner in all ways but one.
However, there are some things he simply cannot do, like convincing the council to fund Viktor’s passion project. As a result, Viktor becomes a surrogate for hire, and Jayce must watch him go through the trials of pregnancy, all while trying to support him the best he can without accidentally confessing his feelings.
