Summary
The picturesque village of Buell, Maine is one of the last in the United States to continue the tradition of the “harvest” or “prosperity” lottery. Its residents insist the lottery makes them stronger, even as condemnation from outsiders grows.

Summary
When the postmortem briefing on the Christophsis campaign concluded and the command staff allowed to disperse, Appo did not leave with the others, but stayed behind to talk to Rex.
“Captain, do you have a moment?” he asked, standing at attention and waiting until Rex nodded to continue. “I noticed an error in the flimsiwork and I’d appreciate your assistance in fixing it. Specifically, it relates to Sergeant Slick -"

Summary
Siblings Olivia and Matt are transmigrated into Crisis Core era FFVII. Matt is a huge Final Fantasy fan, so when he sees Shinra coming, he runs like hell. Olivia knows nothing about Final Fantasy, so she ends up in Hojo's lab.
Hojo delivers Olivia into Sephiroth's care, hoping to breed his new alien specimen with his prize SOLDIER. Instead, the two form a deadly alliance.
***
The strangest thing about a body like Sephiroth's was that nudity didn't make him more vulnerable.
His hot villain getup was intimidating, for sure. It broadened his shoulders, emphasized his height. But it also added personality, for lack of a better word. Black leather for that cool bad guy vibe. Voluminous skirt on the coat for a regal flare. The harness was clearly a thirst trap. Remove the getup and he was just as threatening but so much harder to read. Scarier, in a lot of ways.

Summary
“Is there anything we should know about Steve Rogers that’s not in the official record?”
Peggy looked down at the photographs again, shuffling through them until she found a still taken from the video footage of his Games. She held it up and said, “Only the same thing that people always forget about Victors, especially here in the Capitol.”
“And what’s that?”
Despite the blood spattered across his face, Steve Rogers had still been handsome, three days out of Howard Stark’s Vita-Ray machine, with Abraham Erskine’s serum running through his veins. The bones of the slight boy he had been before were still visible in the shape of his face, the sharpness of his eyes, but he had abrogated his right to die in moldering obscurity the moment he had made himself known on Reaping Day.
“There’s only one way to win the Hunger Games.”
Six and a half decades after mysteriously vanishing, Panem's most famous Victor is found preserved in cryostasis. With a Quarter Quell rapidly approaching following the contentious and controversial 74th Hunger Games, Steve Rogers' resurrection threatens secrets that the Capitol has kept for three-quarters of a century...

Summary
Swanwick gave Bruce a level, unamused look. "Mr. Wayne," he said. "Please tell me you know why you're here."
Bruce shrugged. "Won the lottery, and first-place prize is the government marries me off to an alien."
(Or: in a universe where Krypton took an extra thirty-odd years to implode, Kal-El was sent to Earth as an adult, in advance of the ship containing the only other surviving Kryptonians; and a quirk of Kryptonian law means negotiating refuge, potential resettlement, and an alliance with the Kryptonians in general is dependent on marriage between a Kryptonian and a human. Bruce did what it took to make sure that that human would be him, instead of some poor unprepared civilian—but his efforts to learn more about the aliens, what they want and why they're here, and how, if necessary, to kill them ... don't go the way he's expecting them to.)
