Summary
The first half of the first tournament of magic in Camelot in 25 years was not nearly as interesting as Arthur had hoped.
Thus far, it hadn’t been all that different from the ones he had fought in with his knights, though with more supernatural throwing, shoving, and tripping. Arthur suppressed a pout.
He didn’t even get to participate in this tournament, and there were few things he loathed more than sitting by and watching a fight.
Things would probably get more interesting once Merlin entered the fray—the man brought trouble like carcasses attracted flies—and he would be competing with Albion’s other court sorcerers. Merlin made him feel a great many things, but he strongly doubted boredom would ever be one of them.

Summary
Though Merlin now sat at Arthur’s right hand at the round table, as both his valued advisor and Court Sorcerer, he still stuck out from the knights and nobles like a sore thumb. Among a sea of shining armour and vibrant red cloaks, he was an island of blue and brown. Still in his peasant garb, of course, because the stubborn idiot refused to dress in finery despite his newly-elevated status.
But at least in this small way Arthur could show the whole court what Merlin meant to him, or rather to Camelot.
---Arthur gives Merlin a red knight's cloak and he doesn't react the way Arthur expects

Summary
“Arthur, while your efforts to avoid siring bastards are…noble, I need you to be more discreet about your relationship with your manservant,” Uther said from atop his throne, looking like he would rather be doing anything but have this conversation.
“But Morgana and Gwen—"
Uther held up a hand.
“You know as well as I do that Morgana has a…wild streak, and if practicing her kisses with her maidservant satisfies that it is the least damaging option for the kingdom. At least for now.”Uther plowed on. “In your case, however, we must be seeking out alliances to be strengthened. We will not marry you off quite yet, but it improves relations if visiting kings and lords think their daughters have a chance at becoming queen. And that cannot happen with you constantly pawing at and fawning over your manservant!” Uther shouted, his face red from either anger or embarrassment at having to have this talk with his son.
-Arthur sees Morgana's relationship with Gwen and assumes that is how nobles are supposed to interact with their personal servants. Uther has a talk with him about maintaining appearances. Cute, happy fluff

Summary
“Merlin, you’re the wizard here. You should know how to—”
“Warlock,” Merlin corrected automatically. Arthur frowned.
“No, you’re not.” His father had told him all about the difference between regular sorcerers and warlocks. Namely, sorcerers were humans who were corrupted by the allure of magic’s unnatural power. Warlocks were different; they weren’t human. They were magical creatures masquerading behind human facades. Warlocks were of the worst sort of bedtime story, keeping Arthur awake until every one of his candles had burned out and the shadows grew claws. Arthur may not have known Merlin had possessed magic for the first few years of their friendship, but he was damned sure he was human.
-- Arthur learns he really needs to fact-check the things his father taught him about magic. Golden Age Court Sorcerer Merlin fluff and banter

Summary
Arthur reevaluates how well he knows his best friend and Court Sorcerer.
Arthur had assumed that Merlin would be a fire mage. He wasn’t sure when exactly he had come to this conclusion. Perhaps it had stemmed from years of watching Merlin effortlessly light their campfires.
He had thought Merlin had shied away from using fire magic in battle because it was too flashy and he was so used to hiding in the shadows. Or maybe that it was some ingrained aversion to watching people burn after witnessing countless burnings in Uther’s reign.
Arthur had never suspected Merlin might have an affinity for anything other than fire magic.

Summary
Most people are aware of the fact that they have a soul prior to meeting their soulmate.
We aren’t most people.
(Part 1: A partial retelling of Artifical Condition from ART’s POV, wherein everyone’s favourite asshole research transport discovers 1. That it has a soul, and 2. That it has a soulmate. It handles this news completely rationally.
Part 2: A partial retelling of Network Effect, Murderbot POV, where it also has some uncomfortable realizations.)Bookmarked by sam_i_am_writes

The thing was I knew it was stupid. All of it, all of the parts. Especially the part where I was even considering it. But ART didn’t have to ask.
And I didn’t have to let it in, so I did.
