For a second Sam can only stare. His pick-up is clad in all black leather, just an extension of the sleek black machine he’s straddling. Sam thinks he even sees a glint of metal at his wrist.
A gloved hand raises the face shield on the motorcycle helmet to reveal piercing blue eyes and a mouth set in a firm, anxious line that Sam wants to taste.
But that’s just the adrenaline talking.

“I used to be in the Army,” Steve says, looking down at his hands. “I did two tours. Lead my own team. I raised up the ranks pretty fast, all things considered.”
He looks out the conference room window. “Everyone thought I was nuts when I said I wasn’t renewing my contract. That I was gonna head back into civilian life. The members of my team, or well the ones who quit when I did anyway, thought I was joking when I said I was gonna do a desk job.”
He smiles faintly before continuing, “My best friend, Bucky, came by the office once just a few weeks after Tony had started here. He took one look at him then back at me and said ‘oh’.”
Steve frowns, looking back to the camera. “Sorry, what was the question?”

Bucky chuckles at his word choice. “You’re not a prisoner, you know.”
Sam grunts, like he wants to argue, but instead he closes his eyes. Poor man’s probably exhausted, between falling asleep late last night, waking up early today, and having to deal with such a sudden life change. Sure, it's not his first rodeo. But it's not something to take for granted how well Sam is cooperating with all of them. Handsome, kind and trusting. Bucky can't take his eyes off him. Sam's practically laid out, all defenses down, almost relaxed in the presence of someone he barely knows.
He admires Sam's strength and courage. He hopes to take a piece for himself. Maybe it’ll do him some good, after this is all over.
“Take a picture, it'll last longer.” Sam opens one eye, but Bucky doesn't look away. He pushes past the flirt, knowing if he entertains it.
Well.
He's an opportunistic man, if anything.
Or, Bucky's old life tracks him down to Chinatown, NYC, and Sam kind of throws a wrench into things.
