Mia didn't make it out of Miranda's lab, but Ethan and Rose survived the ordeal. They live with Chris Redfield. Ethan and Chris are finally in a formal relationship, and Ethan and Rose are still under the BSAA's protection.
There's just one problem: Ethan doesn't recall his time in Romania. He doesn't know the secret Mia died protecting.Ethan just wants to move on from his past, to finally find peace.
However....Ethan wasn't the only person to survive Miranda, and even though Ethan doesn't remember Karl, Karl remembers Ethan.

He could feel the grip of the spark loosening, he could almost press his heels back onto the ground. The creature exhaled as if delighted.
“Let me see what it is you have lost,” it suggested in the same buttery-sweet tone. Before he could argue, there was a bright flash of white, and Astarion could see no more.

Ethan Winters was on borrowed time. He knew this. Ever since he learned he died back in that swamp, his immediate thought after was 'when will the other shoe drop'. But it was so long now. Given far more time than he could've asked for. He was grateful for it.
