Summary

“Don’t do that shit again; you hear me?” Kremy murmurs and despite the pain he knows the bastard must feel, Gideon smiles slightly, lips curling into a toothy grin. Gods, there’s blood there too. “What sort of bodyguard are you meant to be if you get killed for chasing some tail?” Gideon chortles, sighing softly and groaning with the jolting movement of his wounds.
“Guess I’d be a pretty shit one.” Gideon replies and his eyes flutter in pain; he exhales shakily and glances at him, looking at him with something resembling scrutiny. “Guess that makes me a pretty shit husband too.”

Gideon offers him the cigar. “I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
Kremy takes it again. “Let’s hear the case for him lovin’ me, then.”
Gideon looks at him, and for some time, he doesn’t speak. Kremy smokes in silence, waiting. Gideon’s gaze is half-lidded and heavy but not scrutinizing. Still, Kremy struggles not to shift uncomfortably or wriggle out from under the weight of his stare. He’s never been good at quiet moments like this.
“Well,” Gideon says at length, “how could he not?”

It's Gideon's birthday and, coincidentally, the anniversary of his father's death. Kremy and Gideon share a cigar and reminisce.
