Summary
About to start in his new role at Cloud Recesses Medical Center, Lan Wangji picks up someone at a bar with whom he spends an unplanned, unforgettable night. The next morning, he walks into the hospital only to run into Dr. Wei Wuxian, hotshot neurosurgery attending.
Now they're colleagues, desperately trying to pretend that night never happened, even as they're drawn closer to each other. But no matter how much they attempt to outrun the traumas in their past, neither can quite forget what they were before the morning came.

Summary
The Cloud Recesses Guest Lectures were held every three years for disciples between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. They had three purposes.
The first (and the reason it was hosted by the Lan) was to provide a shared baseline understanding of the core cultivation topics that underpinned every sect while not divulging clan-specific approaches.
The second was to create opportunities for friendships and alliances that would reduce the chance of war between the clans.
The third, and most important, was for the clans to replenish their bloodline by finding compatible mates with strong cultivation skills. In the last month of the lectures, challenges to test compatibility could be issued.
Wei Wuxian challenges Lan Wangji, sure that they are compatible mates. The Lan refuse to allow the Challenge.
They come to regret it.

Summary
Lan Wangji feels his heart break. He wishes he could scoop the children up and hide them somewhere, where nothing will ever hurt them again. “Please, all of you eat,” he pleads. “There will always be enough from now on. It is my promise.”
“You’re too good, Hanguang-jun,” Wei Wuxian sighs. “You’ll make a wonderful father someday.”
“I will have learnt from the best,” he nods at Wei Wuxian. The man’s cheeks fill with colour so pretty, Lan Wangji has to turn away entirely in order to breathe again.

A storm thunders violently, the forest howls in pain, and children are disappearing into the night. Amongst it all, Lan Wangji encounters a strange, beautiful man. And his five children.
