All Shanks wanted to do was find the devil's fruit, get back to his crew, and stop pretending to be a god's knight. He was not on the same level as his brother. But he couldn't get back on the Red Force until he had the legendary fruit, because his observation haki had told him a terrifying future that would happen otherwise. While he was in Mary Geoise, his crew waited... and waited, and for some it took more of a toll to wait than for others. Shanks had to face the consequences of his absence once he got back.
