It’s understandable that the morning the new trainee arrives, clutching his father’s hand and dressed in an eye-watering combination of fluro orange basketball shorts and a blue fitted shirt, he’s too distracted to take it particularly seriously. Later, Jeongguk will wish he did, will try desperately to remember any other details from that day. He’ll end up liking those things: things like destiny and deja vu and the idea of a person. Your one person.
As it will be, he’ll only be able to remember one thing:
When Jeongguk first meets Taehyung, he almost wants to laugh. Taehyung’s like a cartoon character, all sticky-out ears and wide, boxy smile, as quick and frenzied as a monkey. Then he opens his mouth and speaks, and the low, brown sugar syrup thickness of it has Jeongguk’s laughter dying in his throat.
