    Melinoë began to walk across the room. “I’ve developed a sort of hypothesis, you see.” She let her fingertips trail lightly along one of the desks.

    Nemesis tracked the movement. “Have you.”

    “I have.” Melinoë had reached her. Before she could lose her nerve, she put a hand on the desk behind Nemesis and leaned down towards her. The air between them was hot and thick; only inches separated their faces. “I think we can be of use to each other.”

    There it was again—Nem’s eyes dropped down to her lips. She leaned a fraction closer. “Use,” she repeated. “What kind of use?”

    OR: Melinoe is a graduate student getting ready to defend her PhD. Nemesis is a postdoctoral student in the lab. Tensions build, and Melinoë decides it might be time to seek out some stress relief.
