It stops becoming funny when Thorin’s honor is challenged, and it’s up to Bilbo to defend it. Thorin may be ready to smuggle his hobbit out of the mountain, but Bilbo will do it. AU (Erebor never fell). The Kingdom of Erebor is rich and powerful but the dwarrow within are not happy. For an ancient curse has fallen on their Crown Prince and he had been turned to stone. Only the presence of his One will return him to normality-but if he does not meet the mate Mahal made for him before the Midwinter Festival, before midnight on the Yule Solstice, he will remain stone forever.
When a lowly Hobbit cleaner finds a statue incongruously in a hidden corridor, he of course has no idea who he is or what story lies behind his presence. Or who the grumpy dwarf Prince is who appeared when he returned to the corridor to perform an act of kindness. If only Bilbo Baggins knew why the Prince was desperate for him to return, perhaps he could help...and cure more than an ancient curse...

Summary
In the aftermath of the Battle of the Five Armies, it was easy to lose track of a Hobbit. No one noticed when Bilbo Baggins slipped on the Ring, stole a pack of provisions, and set off for the Shire with a shirt of mithril and an Elven sword at his hip without even a farewell to his name.
He had been banished, after all. Thorin had made his displeasure abundantly clear when he dangled Bilbo from the ramparts of Erebor and declared him traitor to the line of Durin all for a stupid shining stone and for pride that wasn’t worth what it had cost in lives lost.
And with the Company too injured or too busy to check their comrades behavior...well, it was better for everyone if Bilbo just returned to Bag End as quickly and quietly as possible.
And if his heart screamed for the sons of Durin, if it lay heavy and bloody in his own chest at the thought of leaving before knowing if Fíli and Kíli would be able to recoup their injuries, before knowing if Thorin would ever wake up let alone fully recover...that was just his foolish, Hobbitish heart crying out for kin and comfort and love that was never his to claim in the first place.
