Medical Log — Dr. Leonard H. McCoy
I had a perfectly reasonable life planned. A quiet practice. Solid ground under my feet. A glass of bourbon that didn’t slosh every-time the deck sways. Absolutely no starship captains with martyr complexes.
Then James T. Kirk happened.
Somehow I’ve become the only thing standing between that fool and an early grave. The man charges into danger like he dosn’t have the sense the good lord gave him, and I’m left trying to patch up whatever he broke.
It ain't easy handling a moron. But handling a nut job isn't easy either.
End log.

Security Log — Officer Hendorff (Reluctantly)
Ever since the Nadia Incident, I’ve been trying—really trying—to avoid serving under Captain James T. Kirk. Fate, however in its infinite wisdom, has decided this means I should be assigned Chief security officer aboard the Enterprise. I’m starting to think fate has a sense of humor. A dark one.
Kirk operates on what I can only describe as “chaotic gravitational physics.” You get too close, and suddenly you’re being pulled into situations that violate at least three safety protocols and one basic law of nature. Andorian slime bears have better self-preservation skills.
But somehow, here I am, wondering how it got here and whether it’s too late to file a transfer request that will be accepted.
If this trajectory continues, I predict one of two outcomes:
1. I become the most decorated security officer in Starfleet history, or
2. I die in a blaze of glory defending, a suicidal starship captain. At this point, odds are fifty-fifty.
End log.

Summary
Jim’s spent years pretending he’s a beta, and he can’t afford for Starfleet to find out he lied on his enlistment forms. So when he goes to Bones to get a new script for suppressants, and Bones needs a reason to put on his file, he’s happy to let Bones say that he’s trans, not lying. But…is he lying?
That’s how this fic started, but it soon became a sprawling exploration of how Jim and Bones might have supported each other in their Academy days, if they’d only had a little bit more reason to cuddle and open up. Together, they face Jim’s transition, Leonard’s family issues, and the increasing difficulty of defining what their relationship is, exactly…all while pursuing their careers in Starfleet. And when they are finally deployed, in response to an emergency transmission from Vulcan, how will they handle each other being in danger?

Summary
Kirk get injured during maneuvers at the end of the first year of the Academy, but when he has a severe allergic reaction to the medications, it's McCoy who must find a way to save him. Meanwhile, Pike keeps a careful eye on Kirk as things get worse.
“You’re okay, Jim. You had an allergic reaction to some of the medication we gave you,” McCoy said deliberately, watching Jim’s reaction, looking for a sign that Jim was comprehending. “Your airway is still swollen, so try and let the machine breathe for you.”
