"Everybody lies."
– Dr. Greg House, every now and then---
"Retirement home," Wilson deadpans when asked why they're moving to the middle of nowhere, as they take the keys from the previous owner.
House can't help but laugh. It's not like he can do much else these days.
---
"You okay?" It slips out one day before House can think.
Wilson is so thrown off he actually manages to suppress the cough just to glare at him. "Okay? Jesus Christ, House, what kind of question is that? Did the dust in this termite-infested shack clog your brain? Of course I'm–"
Another coughing fit cuts him off mid-rant.
---
"Is it time yet?" Wilson wonders. He can't lift his head to look at the clock.
House is tempted to lie, to say it's only half past six – hell, to say it's still yesterday. He desperately longs for more time. But he knows there's no one left to steal it from. They are alone at the end of the world.
He nods. "Three minutes to seven."Bookmarked by tofurkey

But it was more than just a little under two years of fucking things up.
Because how had it only been a couple of months since Jimmy had looked at him, face open and anxious as he breathed out those words that crushed House so completely.
“I have cancer.”
Or ... how the fuck do you say goodbye to someone you love?
