Scott raises a brow at her. “What are you possibly wanting to do in Oakhurst? It’s not exactly known for its abundance in tourist attractions.”
Drift takes a long pause, never once breaking eye contact with him. “Well, Avid’s buried there. We wanted to pay a visit to his grave. We thought… You know, we thought you might too.”
Scott doesn’t remember the last time he cried.
So when he returns to Oakhurst for the first time since Avid’s death, he finds it hard to recognise at first that that is exactly what he’s doing.

screaming, crying, throwing up this is so evil ಥ_ಥ okay but on a positive note this was such an amazing read I always love seeing how people write characters dealing with his emotions and stuff and this is truly a perfect depiction of how I feel v!Scott would actually act in this kind of situation. this was such a beautiful experience reading god I love this so much

Summary
After finding a mysterious tome in one of the tombs that says it will "ensnare the human form of a dark beast”, the townsfolk cast it on Scott hoping to turn him human and destabilize the castle. They get third life Scott instead.
Or: Oakhurst shows us a lovely example of why you shouldn’t assume things without verifying them first. This will surely not have any lasting consequences in their quest for a cure or general understanding of vampirism.

“Vampires aren’t real, Avid,” Scott drawls, a hand on his hip. He looks bored by the whole conversation, and of course he would be. Of course a vampire like him would be so arrogant. “Why are you so certain, anyway? There’s no proof fairy tales like that are real.”
“Because I-“ Avid cuts himself off, tense as a bow string. He trembles, sharp nails digging into his palms as he bites back everything he could say.
‘Because I am one.’

Summary
After Martyn finds a tome that sends Scott rocketing back into the past, he decides to take the opportunity for what it is and try to manipulate his way into playing on the human side of the court. Even if he has to throw away his pride and act like an neurotic child to get away with it.
Or: Scott gets mind electric-ed back into the past and decides to "I'm just a little guy" his way to victory
