“Louis and Claudia,” he said, a forced nonchalance back in his voice, but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “A trial I never asked for, but one I participated in nonetheless.” He sat back, staring off toward the window where the dull light of the evening played against the edges of the old and worn out curtain. “We both know what happened, Daniel. I don’t need to relive it for you. If I remember correctly, Louis already told you his version when you interviewed him for your book.”
Daniel’s brow furrowed at the mention of Louis’s name, and he stepped forward, his stance shifting, less casual now. "Yeah," he said, his voice quieter, but the tension in it was unmistakable.
