Summary
Condemned to a life of eternal confinement within the Digital Circus, Pomni falls into a vicious cyle of anger, bitterness, and depression. Dark clouds swirl all around. Unless she can find something to live for — a single ray of sunshine to light the way — it won't be long before she reaches her breaking point. But when a single act of kindness from Ragatha finally gives Pomni a reason to venture out of her room, she quickly finds herself in the midst of a haunted house adventure with the redheaded ragdoll — and it isn't very long before she starts catching feelings.
AUTHOR'S NOTE, 08/10/2025: Hey everyone! This story is not dead! A lot is happening in my life at the moment. I found a wonderful life partner that I want to build a future with, and that involves working my butt off to earn qualifications for a better job. I think about this story every day and desperately want to finish it, but right now I am simply unable to dedicate the same amout of time and effort as I was before. A time will come someday (probably mid 2026) when I will finally have the free time to sit down to write the final two chapters. For now, please be patient! I miss writing this as much as you miss reading it. :)

Heavily based off of story and lore from Local Artist, aka another fic aka GO READ IT ALREADY. Linked in the notes. Some of it won't make sense either way but I- just roll with it alright it'll make enough sense anyway. Here's the fancy lingo stuff:

"“That’s weird, I don’t recall adding that file!” Caine was doing his usual, checking up on the Circus to see if everything was running correctly and smoothly. After he was able to catch Kinger before he left and turn him back normal, of course. However, it seemed the whole thing with Kinger had affected something about the circus that was entirely unintended. A new file, that already seemed to affect Kinger."
After Caine was able to get Kinger BEFORE the ladybug incident and turn him back to normal, something weird appears. Something that changes Kinger, a few others, and even those on the outside.

Summary
Caine tries his hand at real creation. Not just the wacky, out of context and lacking rhyme or reasoning creatures he spawns. But another AI, just like him - one that has a mind of its own, but also has a role to play, much like the Sun or the Moon.
Thus, the King of Shadows is born.
Originally the cliche boss at the end of a fantasy adventure, not even Caine can handle him when he suddenly gains sentience - and starts taking his role really seriously. So seriously, that he kidnaps Ragatha and turns all the circus members to stone…
…except a jester in shining armor.
So she stows her fears, and goes along with an unlikely companion to save her.

…and of course, because characters can’t live a simple life, maybe she unlocks the entire Digital Plane while she’s at it.

Summary
What her eye had landed on was a man with a bright star for a head. The points of the star were long and flowing gently behind his head, kind of like…hair, almost. And unlike Caine, his eyes were actually attached to his body, and both were a shade of vibrant blue.
He seemed to be naked, the only article of clothing being the cape that had the galaxy painted on it and a dark blue top hat on his head. And much like Kinger, his hands were detached from his body, instead floating, armless, in space. His left one was holding a ball-handle cane.
And just like Ragatha, everything about him seemed soft, dreamy, and pastel.
Just his presence alone reminded Ragatha a bit of her eccentric overlord, but he seemed…different.

One day, on adventure, Ragatha gets separated from the rest of the cast. What was once a mysterious mistake becomes

much
bigger.

my favorite thing that a fanfic can do is act like a tv show, with each chapter being its own episode with its own character spotlights, arcs, and pairings
this one does it with flying colors, im in love! the characters are so well written, it really does feel like the show(also it has the best portrayal of gangle: secretly violent)

"I think it would be funny if everyone manages to escape the Digital Circus in the end and they don't want Caine's AI to trap any more people so they somehow manage to drag him to the human world with them. In hindsight, bringing an Artificial Intelligence computer program back with them to the real world was probably not the best idea. But hey: they were still alive. Somewhat. That counted as a win in Pomni’s book.
