I hate them, Roz, and sometimes it just feels like too much and I can’t–” One hand goes up to run through his hair, already a little mussed, and Shane gives it a slight tug, making a frustrated noise that Ilya hasn’t heard before.

Something flickers across Rozanov’s face. His jaw twitches. “Yes, I know about Lily.” He raises his eyebrows.
Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”

Ilya had told him it was okay; that it didn’t make him a bad player to resent the spotlight sometimes, that it didn’t make him a bad teammate to hate the team when they were too loud and too drunk and too physical, that it didn’t make him a bad person to need space to breathe. “My apartment,” he says, keeping his tone deliberately even. Casual. “I mean… it’s close by, right? You could stay there instead of dealing with the hotel nonsense.”
The words hang in the air between them, fragile and irrevocable. Rozanov goes very still.
Shane feels a flash of panic—wonders if he’s misjudged, if he’s pushed too hard and too fast. He rushes to fill the silence, almost tripping over the words, trying to frame it the way he rehearsed in his head.
“It’s more practical, right?” He adds. “Less media. No teammates. You’d have your own space. And it’s only until flights start up again. You can leave first thing when they resume.”
--- After Rose, after Florida, but having barely reconciled since, Shane and Ilya are stuck in Montreal during a snow storm. Shane offers for Ilya to stay in his apartment, and offers up the rest of his heart with it. Or, an alternate take on what happens after Episode 4.
