Summary
Being a king’s guard is meant to be a serious business: sharpen your sword, keep your boots shiny, and absolutely, under no circumstances, comment on royal hand-holding. Through the ever-watchful (and occasionally traumatised) eyes of Émile, veteran soldier, guard, and expert in both battlefield logistics and emotional damage control, we witness a kingdom at peace… or as close as it ever gets.
These are the moments history never records: flower crowns in Lys, dog pile-ups in Acquitart, pony races gone wrong in Patras, and the kinds of swordplay that have nothing to do with politics. There are victories, near-misses, and more diplomatic incidents averted (or not) than anyone will ever admit.
