Summary
Shane picks up almost instantly. “Ilya?” His voice is sharp, already awake. “What’s wrong?”
Ilya clears his throat. His voice comes out quiet, reserved, almost childlike. “You were right,” he admits. “I… I have been throwing up.”
There is silence from Shane and Ilya feels a wave of panic run through him.
“I feel very terrible,” Ilya adds, blinking fast as his eyes burn. “Could you please just come?”

When Jack wakes up on his 23rd birthday, he’s in one of Quinn’s guest bedrooms in Vancouver, shoulder still immobilized in the bulky abduction sling and propped up on a pillow at his side. He wishes he was back home in Jersey, curled up around Nico, sore in all the right places and ready for their pregame nap. Or in Michigan, exhausted from a day out on the boat, skin sun kissed and warm from the Summer sun. Instead he’s in Vancouver, recovering from a season-ending surgery while his brothers, best friends and boyfriend are scattered around the world still playing hockey.
