Summary
"We're setting you up with a billet situation," Fletcher continued. "It's pretty common for first-year players, especially international guys. Gives you a chance to settle in, learn the city, have someone looking out for you."
"Okay," Ilya said slowly, not entirely sure what a billet was, but not wanting to admit his ignorance.
He could guess from the context – he’d heard of rookies being assigned to live with older single players, veterans who could show them the ropes. Maybe that was what Fletcher meant. Connors maybe, he was probably a handful of years older than Ilya. Or perhaps Becker. Ilya just hoped it was someone who–
"You'll be staying with Nikolai Petrov and his family."
The words hit Ilya like a punch to the gut. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
"Petrov?" he managed, his voice coming out strangled.
__________________________________________________________________The Bears decide that Ilya should be set up with a billet for his first season. The idea of spending a year living with a man that Ilya is sure hates him is completely terrifying. And yet, it ends up being the best thing to ever happen to him.

Summary
Shane leans into him. “Can I tell you a secret?” Shane wobbles as he asks and catches himself by winding an arm around Ilya’s waist.
“Of course.” Trust is the foundation of their relationship. They’ve always kept each other’s secrets. They just have far fewer of them now. “Is what husbands are for, I think.”
“This is a hockey secret,” Shane says, nonsensically.
A hockey secret?
“Maybe you did not hear,” Ilya says it like he’s sharing a secret of his own, “but I just won the Stanley Cup without any top secret Hollander hockey moves.”
Shane smacks his shoulder and leaves his hand on Ilya’s chest. “We did that to-geth-er.” The words come out of Shane’s mouth strangely musically.

Summary
After Shane and Ilya were outed through fan mail, they were still playing games on ice and fighting for a playoff spot in the regular season. They faced disappointed fans, hostile teammates, and a world that no longer felt like it belonged to them.
Ilya was fortunate enough to be traded to Ottawa—
a team widely regarded around the league as one of the most openly gay-friendly locker rooms in hockey.Shane was not.
The Voyageurs made their position clear—not through words, but through their actions on the ice.
or
In two games, the television commentators witnessed Shane being iced out by his own team
isolated, ignored, and left exposed shift after shift.
This wasn’t a mistake.
It wasn’t a coincidence.It was bullying
