Typically being this close to a dragon was contained to a short flash in the heat of a battle. The huge beasts but a blur as metal and claws clashed together in a flurry of blood and pain that left you unsure of whether you’d be alive or dead at the end of your last blink.
And now one of those heavy claws was cast over Lucia’s shoulder with that familiar red running down it. The drips of bright crimson on her silver armor were familiar but this time there was no victory in it.

Summary
As Ignis adapted to his new life he found everything was a frustrating puzzle with half the pieces missing.
He had full confidence in his ability, in time, to get better at groping around the table to find them. Absolute ability to achieve any goal had been a major facet of his personality before and he was certain it would be after.
And at least he didn't have to do it alone.

"That morose expression on your face ill suits you, Garlond,” said the former Tribunus. “You've enough frown lines as it is. It's little wonder you already look ages beyond your years."
“Nero.” Cid took the proffered mug. “I didn’t know you were still here.”

“I can take you to his tomb,” Gladio says quietly. “Before all those people come rubbernecking.”
Ignis shakes his head and starts walking again. “I don’t want to inconvenience you, Gladio. Perhaps it’s best if you just take me home.”
“It's not an inconvenience, Iggy.” And ain't that a fucking understatement? There’s nothing Gladio wouldn’t do for him. “Look, I know what you were to each other. I'm not stupid,” he says more quietly, touching Ignis’s elbow. “We can go down really quick before we leave. I don’t mind at all, Iggy, not if it’s you who’s asking.”
Nearly a year after Noct's death, Ignis still mourns him. And Gladio does what he can to help.
