“Oh?” James says, chest heaving.
“Helplessness,” Frank says. “You never know when to give up. You’ll kill yourself rather than feel that.”
“Yep,” James says. The ceiling above him is spinning.
“Don’t,” Frank says. He sits cross-legged beside James, and there is a princeliness to his descent, an eloquence and grace. He grabs James’s hand and squeezes.
James shuts his eyes. “Yep,” he says.
