Liebe Jannike!
Today is Friday and we are back home at last, thank God. I am exhausted and I plan to be cross with Karsten for weeks about this idea of a family vacation. He is right that we should let the boys see the world, but what can a four-year-old benefit from it? - and one cannot observe culture and Klavier at the same time. (Really Krissi would not be a problem by himself.) And of course me shepherding around the both of them while he is in only his meetings with the exporters - it was lighting equipment this time.
This photo has caused an argument. Karsten insists that it must have been taken at Ba Xian An, never mind that he wasn't there, but I am still almost completely certain Ba Xian An didn't have trees like these.
At any rate it is a good picture of the boys; Klavier behaves for his big brother. I count us lucky for that. It is amazing, how people want to indulge him. You ought to have seen the tour girls.
I really am very tired but I want to hear all about Basel. Write back to me and tell me everything.

Vati and I were so disappointed to hear that you would not come back from university for your birthday. I remember very well there are exams, but all the same four months is a very long time for us. If you decide that you can spare the time after all, please use the enclosed money for a train pass back home for the weekend.
Klavier is next to me being very loud that I include this that he took of you both in Turkey over the summer? He says Hierapolis; you will have to tell me whether he is remembering correctly. Of course he looks like a perfect little barbarian and he will until the braces go off and he can be convinced to give up those terrible earrings, but this is a wonderful picture of you standing in the sun. So handsome even if it is your mother saying so. You look like your uncle when he was your age.
Reassure me that you are staying warm and healthy and eating properly. We are so very proud of you.

What kind of picture is this? Heide brought it to me yesterday. It was in one of those tabloid magazines that she buys. Kristoph looks very cross and you look embarrassed with him. Have you upset him again?
I hope that Los Angeles is comfortable.
