Chapter Text
Tsuna did not remember falling asleep curled into his mother's side, but he didn't regret it, even if he woke with a crick in his neck. In fact, he would have fallen right back asleep, content as ever, had it not been for the buzzing of his phone.
It wasn't a call, but someone was sending him a new text every other second.
Groaning, Tsuna reached over and pulled up his phone, wincing at the harsh light. 12:05? Who was texting him at midnight?
Unknown: hey
Unknown: hey
Unknown: you wanted to meet up tomorrow
Me: Osamu?
Unknown: the one and only
Me: Yes! I wanted to meet up tomorrow.
Osamu: cool cool
Osamu: when
Me: Lunch, maybe? 11-ish?
Osamu: ? Tht works for me
Me: See you then!
Tsuna stretched and let his phone flop onto his lap. He could hear the muffled sounds of talking from the small balcony, but other than the low hum of the AC, there was no other noise in the hotel room.
What was he going to do? He couldn't force Osamu to meet their Maman again, he could never do that, but God did he want them to see each other.
And even until then? Lying to his Maman was something Iimetsu did, not Tsuna. He promised that he wouldn't be like him when he told Maman everything. Told her about the mafia and his role. Told her that he couldn't escape it.
Told her he would keep her safe.
He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He could only hope that something started to move soon.
Tsuna pulled his orange hoodie over his head and pulled his casual jeans on the moment his clock read 10:45.
"Just so we're clear..." Hayato began and Tsuna suppressed a sigh. He had told Hayato to stay with the kids today, since he still didn't trust the city. But that meant Hayato couldn't follow him at a 'respectable distance' to keep tabs on him and Osmau. So he had been obsessing all morning about making sure Tsuna's predicted schedule was completely memorized so 'If Tsuna-sama were to go missing, I could track him down and find exactly where he was taken from.'
"I'm going to spend the afternoon with... I'm spending the afternoon at the Agency. We're going to eat in the cafe downstairs. If anything changes, I'll make sure to text you where we're going so you know where to find me." Tsuna caught himself from saying his brother's name. He didn't think his mom could hear, but it left a bad taste in his mouth to even say something like that when she was anywhere nearby.
It felt too much like deceit.
"Make sure that Agency knows that if you come back with a single scratch on you it's war."
Tsuna choked on sudden laughter. "How can you say that with such a straight face?"
"I'm being serious!" Hayato cried, face going bright red.
"I- I know, Hayato. That just makes it even better. We are not going to war with the Agency. Unless they try to stage an assassination or hurt one of you, no one will be going to war."
"But-"
"I have to go Hayato," Tsuna insisted, still chuckling. "Just take the kids somewhere fun today, ok?"
"Why can't that stupid Skylark take care of the kids?" Hayato mumbled, giving Tsuna one last glance over before determining he was ready to leave.
"You know he didn't come to play babysitter. He has a job to do, and so do you."
"Yeah, I know."
Tsuna walked to the door, waving his goodbyes to his mom and the kids.
The door closed behind him and Tsuna let out a breath.
And so his day began.
