Chapter 1
Notes:
I’m messing with the timeline, so the juniors will be born a little earlier and other things may be moved around too.
This is not to be taken seriously. Just wanted to write something fun.
Chapter Text
Wei Wuxian was freaking out.
The day started off normal enough, he barely managed to get up on time to eat breakfast and get to Old Man Lan’s lecture. He asked scandalous questions, tried to make eye contact with Lan Zhan, took naps during lecture, and even managed to doodle an entire scene of bunnies grazing in a field of flowers during said lecture.
Then it went downhill fast.
A young woman dressed in QishanWen Sect robes showed up with a basket with a bundled infant inside and had requested to speak with who ever was in charge. Nothing wrong or too out of the ordinary, except being from the Wen Sect. As Lan Qiren is bringing her to a private place to speak, and before he can speak to her in private, she blurts out, “This child is Wei Wuxian’s of YunmengJiang!”
All the guest disciples, the Lan Disciples, and Lan Qiren gape in shock.
Gusu is even more deathly quiet than normally and that was saying something, because Gusu was always quiet because of their three thousand rules.
Wei Wuxian breaks it with a loud, “WHAT!!?”
And a “I’M GOING TO BREAK YOUR FUCKING LEGS WEI WUXIAN!!” by Jiang Cheng.
Then pure pandemonium.
Now here he is with a women he has no recollection of even meeting, let alone sleeping with. His memory has always been unreliable, but he knows for a fact that he is still a virgin. He hasn’t even had his first kiss yet! Sure he’s read plenty of porn books and is known to be a flirt with the ladies, but he isn’t like Jin Gaungshan who has too many one-night stands and too many illegitimate children to count!
He’s waiting for The One!
He’s really innocent this party this time!
Though there was a tiny niggling doubt in the back of his mind that wouldn't go away. What if he really did sleep with this young woman? What if it was a night where he had drunken too much wine and then unintentionally forced himself upon this woman. That thought made Wei Wuxian freeze with fear. If that had really happened, he would have to marry this woman to fix her reputation, but how could he live with himself!? He would be no better than that slimy Jin Guangshan!!
Maybe if he allows Gusu Lan to whip him with the discipline rod a thousand times, he could start on the road of redemption! He would spend the rest of his life making it up to her! And if she asked him to die, he would do it for what he did to her.
Lan Qiren is sitting quietly but giving him a glare, a hand stroking his beard angrily, no doubt reprimanding him in his mind for succumbing to worldly desires and having a child out of wedlock. Lan Xichen is also in the room and as Sect Heir, must be in attendance, though he is busy making tea, wanting something to do to hopefully break the tension. Jiang Cheng is fuming next to him, no doubt thinking of all the repercussions that will befall Yunmeng.
Then the young woman does something he doesn’t expect, she kowtows and cries, “I’m so sorry Young Master Wei! I know that I have intentionally ruined your reputation!!”
Everyone is once again shocked by this young woman. Lan Qiren's angry face goes through various shades before settling down.
Lan Xichen asks gently, “What do you mean Miss Wen? Did you not say that this child was Young Master Wei’s?”
She continues to bow. “This child is not Young Master Wei’s at all! However, I had heard that he was a gentleman, excelled in the Six Arts, and was one of the best Cultivators of his generation!”
Hah! He knew it! Though the dark thoughts that had been spiralling in his mind are put to peace and it feels like a large mountain had been lifted off his shoulders.
”Please explain,” Lan Xichen soothes.
Wei Wuxian eagerly nods in agreement. He wants to know what is going on too!
She nods. “I am from a branch family of the Wen Clan who specializes in medicine. However, I am a maid working in the Nightless City Palace. I serve under Wen Chao’s Official Wife as her handmaiden. Almost a year ago, I had thought that Wen Chao really cared for me and would make me his concubine but he was using me, thus this child is his. However, there is this jealous maid Wang Lingjiao, who has usurped the Madame’s place and become Wen Chao’s Mistress. If she had known I was pregnant with Wen Chao’s child, she would have killed my child and I. For months I had been fretting on what I should do once my child is born and one day I had actually heard Wen Chao badmouthing Young Master Wei and bragging to his Mistress about how he was better than a servant’s son. Then I did my own investigation and found that Young Master Wei is very powerful and respectable. Please Young Master Wei, I implore you to raise this child as your own!” She pleads. “I know this is a huge responsibility and you do not even know me, but Qishan Wen is too dangerous! There are too many hidden and dark plots going on behind the scenes. I would rather my child have the title of a servant’s son who has no blood connection to any Sect than be in the snake pit that is the Wen Sect!"
This was a lot to take in.
”What makes you think Yunmeng Jiang would even take in someone else’s child because of your problems within the Wen Sect?” Jiang Cheng asks harshly.
The young woman bows and pleads, “Young Master Jiang, Young Master Wei, I know what I am asking is impossible, but please, for my son, please take him in. I implore you.”
The infant bundled in the basket begins to fuss and wiggle in its wrappings, probably awoken from his sleep from all the noise. The young woman continues to kowtow and Wei Wuxian focuses on the infant who may become his adopted son.
He stands, before crouching down and picks up the infant from the basket. The infant opens his grey eyes and stares fascinated at the new face. Wei Wuxian smiles and slowly rocks him, like he’s seen mothers in Lotus Pier do.
”What’s his name?” Wei Wuxian asks.
”You’re not actually thinking of taking the kid in, are you?” Jiang Cheng growls. “Think about Yunmeng’s reputation!”
Lan Qiren clears his throat, bringing the attention to him. “I suggest that we call Sect Leader Jiang and perhaps his wife too. This matter will be settled between us only. No word of what was spoken in here leaves this room, understood?”
Jiang Cheng, the young women, and Wei Wuxian (as much as he can without disturbing the baby) bow in agreement.
Wei Wuxian turns back to the woman who is watching him hold her son. He can see the heartbreak in her eyes with the possibility of her leaving her son forever, whether in Wei Wuxian’s care or some other stranger.
He sits closer to her, but far enough to still be respectable. “What’s his name?” He asks again.
”Yuan.” She answers. “He’s three months old.”
Wei Wuxian grins brightly. “Hello A-Yuan!”
The baby gives a gummy smile in return. Jiang Cheng moves closer to also take a look at the infant. Thankfully, his grumpy shidi’s face doesn’t scare poor A-Yuan. “Look Jiang Cheng! Your grumpy scary face doesn’t scare him!”
Jiang Cheng just scowls harder. “I will break your legs, just you watch.”
However, soon after, Wei Wuxian gives the infant back to his mother for feeding. Lan Qiren summons a servant to escort mother and child to the female side of Gusu and dismissing Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng back to the guest disciple quarters. When he and Jiang Cheng are opening the doors to their shared room, Nie Huaisang is pacing back and forth, then his neck snapping so fast to their direction both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng wince before Nie Huaisang pounces on them. Wei Wuxian wonders if Nie Hauisang really is as delicate as he acts, because the strength he uses to grab their robes to hurry them along into the room and lock their doors tight after he makes sure no one else is around is surprising.
Wei Wuxian has a suspicion that Nie Huaisang is just to lazy to cultivate but does know some of his Sect's techniques.
"Tell me everything! Brother Wei, did you really get a woman pregnant before marriage!? Was that your child!?" Nie Huaisang asks desperately, eyes sparkling with the need to know some juicy gossip.
Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng share a look. They were ordered by Lan Qiren to not say anything, but Nie Huaisang was the closest friend they had from the other sects around their age. Wei Wuxian thinks it's okay to tell Nie Huaisang because they are friends and they've sneaked both alcohol and porn books while here in Gusu, so they've done worse. In addition, he knows that Nie Huaisang isn't one to spread rumors, but to gather them.
"Okay, but you have to promise not to say anything!" Wei Wuxian stresses seriously. "Otherwise, we'll all be punished by Old Man Lan Qiren."
Nie Huaisang nods his head eagerly in agreement.
So they tell what happened in the meeting from beginning to end and what the woman had told them. Nie Huaisang gapes the whole time until the end, before he flips open his fan and starts fanning himself nervously. "Wow, Brother Wei, I'm so glad that I am not you. If that was me, I would rather jump off a cliff and die then face the wrath of Da-ge when he hears the news. He'd really break my legs and probably ground me to for life and make seriously study Cultivation as my punishment! What about Sect Leader Jiang and his wife?"
Wei Wuxian pouts. "What's that supposed to mean! Also, I think Uncle Jiang will be okay with it? Maybe?"
Jiang Cheng punches him hard on his arm. "Dad may be lenient on you, but Mom sure as hell is going to whip you with Zidian."
Nie Huaisang shudders. "To be whipped by the famous Violet Spider, I don't envy you Brother Wei at all."
Honestly, Wei Wuxian wish it was someone else than him too, but it's too late and he has no doubt that word has spread all over Gusu about his "illegitimate child", even though gossip is forbidden. Besides worrying about what Uncle Jiang and Madame Yu will think and act, Wei Wuxian is more worried about Lan Zhan! Now he's really going to think Wei Wuxian is an actual shameless and lustful person, like Jin Guangshan!, and not want to be his friend anymore!
"What do I tell Lan Zhan!?" Wei Wuxian groans out.
Jiang Cheng scowls. "Why the hell do you need to tell him anything?"
"He's going to think that I really am someone who has slept with pretty maidens before marriage!" Wei Wuxian whines.
Nie Huaisang gently pats Wei Wuxian on the back. "Don't worry Brother Wei, if I know Xichen-ge, he'll definitely let Second Young Master Lan know the truth. They are pretty close brothers."
"I hope your right, Brother Nie." Wei Wuxian says somberly as he is getting ready for bed.
It turns out, Wei Wuxian had too much hope in Nie Huaisang's words. Lan Wangji has done everything possible to ignore and disappear from Wei Wuxian's sight. More than usual! He doesn't even oversee his punishment in the Library Pavilion anymore! Now it's some stuffy Senior disciple, who continues to add more punishment when he does anything besides copy the rules. Even sighing has earned him fifty more times of copying the rules! It was pure torture!!
And every night so far, he whined and complained about Lan Zhan ignoring him. Jiang Chneg would just argue and berate him for even being stuck on Lan Wnagji when the other disciples where saying nasty things about him and YunmengJiang to his face.
During the day though, he got to spend time with A-Yuan. He was such a cute and happy baby that Wei Wuxian was alarmingly getting quite attached with the few days he spend with the baby.
Finally, Uncle Jiang and Madame Yu arrive. The meeting goes as well as it could under the circumstance. Like normal, Madame Yu blamed him before she heard all the facts, but that wasn't anything new. The young woman once again told her story. Jiang Fengmian was sympathetic, but he knew his wife was right about the reputation that would follow Wei Wuxian and YUnmeng Jiang, but by some bizarre twist of a Fate, they decided to let Wei Wuxian adopt young Wen Yuan, thus becoming the newly renamed Wei Yuan.
Wei Wuxian was now officially a teenage father.
And that was a very scary thought.

Notes:
Sorry for any mistakes.
Also I know that diapers did not exist in Ancient China, so, yes, it is a cloth but I didn't want it to get confused with clothes so I'm just calling the cloth a diaper for easiness sake.

Chapter Text
Being a parent was hard.
Being a teenage parent was harder.
And Wei Wuxian would not hesitate to punch anyone in the face for saying otherwise.
He already loved and adored his newly adopted son, carrying him in a vibrant purple sling from very high quality silk with Lotus flowers sewn all over, courtesy of Uncle Jiang, and basically showing his darling A-Yuan off to everyone he could. That was easy, what was hard was that A-Yuan needed a nursemaid, because he was still too young to eat solid food. Now that wouldn't normally be a problem in Lotus Pier, because the nursemaid could just follow around until A-Yuan got hungry, but GusuLan was different.
Unmarried males and females were separated and forbidden from interacting, along with young children and infants staying with the women until the male children reached a certain age to begin cultivating, would they be moved to the male side.
This meant that some of the rules had to be bent, much to Lan Qiren's extreme displeasure, but had to concede because Wei Wuxian was a guest disciple and not part of GusuLan and a nursemaid had to present near Wei Wuxian so A-Yuan could be fed, because Wei Wuxian had put his foot down and would not have his son be taken away from him for hours at a time, even during class time. Thankfully, Lan Xichen had persuaded his Uncle to give in. The nursemaid who was assigned to him was a married and pregnant young woman a few years older than him. She was kind and not so much a stickler for the rules, but she did recite it often enough that Wei Wuxian if she liked to hear herself talk. Her baby was due around autumn.
Other than that, the nursemaid was hardly around him, except for A-Yuan's scheduled feedings.
They even moved Wei Wuxian into a private building where not a lot of guest disciples were staying so that A-Yuan's midnight crying wouldn't disturb their rest.
The nursemaid and her husband had a room next door, which had a connecting door to his room. It was scandalous and not proper for a married woman to enter an unmarried man's room, but A-Yuan needed to be fed, so Wei Wuxian did his best to wake up when A-Yuan started fussing or crying for a diaper change or feeding or just wanting to be held.
When A-Yuan needed his midnight feedings, Wei Wuxian would carefully pick him up from his borrowed crib - Courtesy of GusuLan - and knock on the connecting door until the nursemaid opened up. Then he would give A-Yuan to her and she would feed him in her room until he was satisfied and then bring him back, sometimes it was her husband who would receive and then bring back A-Yuan if she was too tired to get up.
Sure it was a bit of a hassle but anything for his son. Though the lack of sleep was starting to get to him. He's learned that he needs to nap when his A-Yuan naps, because he never knows when he'll get a good nights rest again.
It's another day of classes, and Wei Wuxian carefully changes A-Yuan into some clean baby robes then bundles him up and places him in the basket that he had been carried in by his mother all those days ago. Since it would get too uncomfortable for A-Yuan to stay in his sling all day, when he could be comfortable in his cushioned basket and quietly play while Wei Wuxian was in class. He greets Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang as soon as he enters the classroom early.
"Good morning Brother Wei and hello A-Yuan." Nie Huaisang coos to the infant.
A-Yuan giggles and places a fist in his mouth. Nie Huaisang quietly squeals at the adorableness of the baby.
"You're still bringing him to class? You should just leave him with the nursemaid." Jiang Cheng says.
Wei Wuxian playfully gasps. "No way! A-Yuan is my baby! I can't stay away from him for hours at a time! What if he cries!?"
"That's why he'd have a nursemaid to take care of him." Jiang Cheng growls out.
"Sorry Jiang Cheng. I don't want to be one of those absent parents who just hands their kids to a nursemaid to take care of." Wei Wuxian smiles resolutely. "A-Yuan is my responsibility."
"Tch." Jiang Cheng clicks his tongue, but doesn't say anything more on it.
Soon, they sit in their seats, Wei Wuxian gently placing the basket down next to his desk and takes out a shiny new Jiang Bell. Uncle Jiang had it commissioned for A-Yuan since he would be trained as a Yunmeng disciple when he grew up. Wei Wuxian gently shakes the bell, its chime catching A-Yuan's attention. The baby smiles and giggles while trying to grab the purple tassel. Wei Wuxian smiles, happy to play with his son before Old Man Lan enters to start the lesson.
He ignores the blatant staring and whispers about himself and his son from the other disciples, though most of them are from the Jin Sect who are tending to smear his name and start rumors. The other Jiang Sect disciples, do their best to defend Wei Wuxian's honor and argue against the malicious talks about their Da-Shixiong. But that can only do so much. One particular Jin Sect member always tries to get under Wei Wuxian's skin at all opportunities, as if it was his personal mission to rile Wei Wuxian up. He never remembers the Jin disciples name, only knowing he's a cousin of the Peacock.
"Well, well, it's the slut Wei Wuxian and his bastard kid." The Jin Disciple taunts as he enters the classroom.
He expects to see Wei Wuxian glare at him or something, but he doesn't do anything like always. Wei Wuxian doesn't bother acknowledging the other, as he is not worth his time or remembrance. He knows that this Jin is all talk and no skill, and honestly, Wei Wuxian could wipe the floor with him blindfolded and with half the effort.
"I was talking to you Wei Wuxian!" the disciple continues.
From the corner of his eye, Wei Wuxian can see Jiang Cheng starting to stand up, scowl angry and vicious. So Wei Wuxian turns to face the Jin disciple but doesn't stand up and salute. "Who are you again?"
Everyone in the room stares in shock. The Jin disciple splutters in anger and shock. "Wha-? I'm Jin Zixun! Cousin to the Heir of the LanlingJin Sect!" Jin Zixun boasts.
Wei Wuxian rolls his eyes at the boast. It wasn't impressive at all. "I don't care Young Master Jin. And I don't see why you should care about what I do in my life as well. Of course, if you're jealous at how handsome my A-Yuan is, it's because he takes after me!" He smirks. "If you want beautiful children, you'll just have to find a very pretty maiden who would be willing to marry you, though that might be hard as you're not even ranked in the top 5 of the best cultivators in our generation."
"Ooh!" Everyone laughs at the giant insult that had been hurled at Jin Zixun and his fuming red face.
"You! You! You're just the son of a servant! How dare you talk to me like that!" Jin Zixun roars.
"What the fuck did you just say?!" A now standing and furious Jiang Cheng growls, as he is ready to punch the living day lights out of Jin Zixun. Thankfully, before any violent acts could be accomplished, Lan Zhan enters the room. His cold steely gaze, freezes everyone in their spots as he looks around the room, before they land on Jin Zixun. The Jin disciple visibly flinches.
"Fighting is forbidden. Gossip is forbidden." Lan Zhan says monotonously. "I will let Uncle know of your indiscretions and you will be punished."
With that, Lan Zhan sits on an empty desk close to the front of the classroom. Jin Zixun is obviously displeased and ready to argue, but Jin Zixuan gives his cousin a glare and the other begrudgingly goes to sit down at his desk.
Wei Wuxian smiles and continues to play with his son, glad that he didn't have to get physical with Jin Zixun. He didn't care what other people thought of him, but no matter who it was, he would protect his A-Yuan.
Lan Zhan was freaking out.
Internally. No one would be able to spot the difference, except his brother, but his brother was currently in a meeting with Wei Ying, Jiang Wanyin, Uncle, and the supposed son of Wei Ying's and the child's mother.
They were only sixteen. How could Wei Ying do that with a woman who was not his wife? An ugly feeling flared in his heart, but he quickly pushed it away. He needed to be level-headed. Extreme emotions clouded judgment, and Lan Zhan would act as if everything was normal until his brother or Uncle explained everything to him.
If they did.
If not, he was positive he would here straight from Wei Ying's mouth. The disciples were still gossiping and Lan Zhan decided he would go to the Library pavilion to continue to make new copies of the books to get his mind off of the current predicament.
But a baby!
Lan Zhan grips his brush hard until his knuckles are turning white. What if Wei Wuxian ends up having to marry the young woman!? Or if she is just trying to take advantage of Wei Ying's kindness before running off, leaving him with a baby to care for!?
The few other Lan disciples currently in the Library Pavilion freeze and shudder before quickly scurrying away from the killing intent from the Second Jade. He continues to emit the deadly aura until Lan Xichen comes to find him. When Lan Zhan sees his brother, he perks up though it was hard to tell. Lan Xichen smiles apologetically and says that he is unable to say anything until their Uncle gives the okay. He's disappointed, but understands, though his brother must see something in his expression that he smiles indulgently and pats his head.
"Wangji, please don't worry," he says. "The situation involving Young Master Wei is much different than what we first thought. Do not be too hard on him. Sect Leader Jiang and his wife had been called to help with the situation. Please treat Young Master Wei normally Wangji. I'm afraid the other guest disciples may start to harass him "
"Mn."
Lan Xichen smiled amused, knowing that his baby brother's emotions were currently going haywire even if no one could tell from his face alone. The First Jade figured that his brother would continue to treat Wei Wuxian normally. After all, Wei Wuxian was his brother's first friend and crush. Big brother is cheering for you Wangji!
However, during the next few days Lan Zhan's emotions wouldn't settle down and to avoid any misunderstandings with Wei Ying, he decided to that it was best if he did not see the other until he figured out his emotions. He hates that he can't be with Wei Ying, but if the other is forced to marry the young woman, Lan Zhan would rather cut off their relationship before his heart gets hurt. It seems his brother knew what he is doing, because Lan Xichen corners him in the Jingshi just before curfew and scolds him.
It isn't a scolding like their Uncle, no Lan Xichen's scoldings are worse because he doesn't yell or glare, but softly tells you how disappointed he is, with a small frown.
And that was much worse.
"Wangji, why are you ignoring Young Master Wei?" Lan Xichen asks gently.
Lan Zhan looks away, ears turning red.
Lan Xichen sighs. "Wangji, the others have been harassing Young Master Wei ever since he's adopted young A-Yuan."
Lan Zhan looks up in shock. Adoption?! Wasn't the baby his by blood?!
"Wangji, listen very carefully because I'm only going to explain this once." Lan Xixhen stresses. He can't let his younger brother make a huge mistake because of some misunderstanding!
After hearing the true events and reasons as to why Wei Ying now has a child, Lan Zhan feels like a fool. Would Wei Ying even still want to be his friend after what Lan Zhan has done?
"You should tell Young Master Wei how you feel." Lan Xichen adds unhelpfully. "Show him that you ever abandon him and that you care about your relationship still!" Lan Xichen's smile is full of hope and vigor. "You still have time to fix this!"
Lan Xichen was going to get his brother to confess to his crush if its the last thing he ever did!
Of course, Lan Zhan had no idea what was going on through his brother's head, only that his brother was telling him to go and fix his friendship with Wei Ying, otherwise it would be permanently damaged.
So now here he was, a brand new day, just entering the classroom hoping that Wei Ying would still try to grab his attention during class, when he sees a Jin disciple standing over Wei Ying and his newly acquired infant. None of the others have noticed him just yet, which is good, he wants to see what this disciple plans on doing. Lan Zhan sees red when Jin Zixun starts to insult Wei Ying.
So he marches in there with righteous fury and purposely lets everyone know that Jin Zixun will be punished for his indiscretion.
Thankfully, Lan Qiren enters the room soon after before anymore shenanigans can happen.
Lan Zhan should be focusing on the lecture, but his mind is playing a million scenarios that could go either very well or very badly when he confronts Wei Ying later. He is mindlessly taking notes, just barely paying enough attention to not let his Uncle think that he is daydreaming. Every time his Uncle's back is turned, Lan Zhan takes a small peak at Wei Ying he sits on the other side of the room. The baby is currently gnawing on his bell, little feet kicking lazily, and cooing every so often.
Wei Ying smiles and gently strokes the child's head before he goes back to writing notes or drawing.
Lan Zhan is struck by how lovely Wei Ying looks when caring for the infant, that he has too forcibly move his gaze back to the front where is Uncle stands and teaches.
This was going to be a very long class.
When class is finally over, Wei Wuxian happily and haphazardly folds his notes and sticks them in the basket by A-Yuan's feet until he can place them in his room later. Now that classes are over for the day, Wei Ying wants to spend the rest of it outside with his A-Yuan! Maybe he'll go to the mountain side and try to see if their are any wild bunnies for his little bun to see.
"Wei Ying."
He turns to see Lan Zhan standing right behind him. The other disciples gaze between them, wondering what might happen, but they dare not linger where Lan Qiren or the Second Jade can see them. Jiang Cheng scowls and scoffs, but is lead away by Nie Huaisang to give Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji privacy.
Wei Wuxian smiles brightly. "Lan Zhan!"
Strike. Lan Zhan can feel his heart stutter from the warmth and brightness of Wei Ying's smile. He doesn't hate him! Wei Ying still wants to be around him! Though his thoughts are once again chaotic, Lan Zhan's face does not change one bit.
"Look! You haven't met A-Yuan yet! Isn't he just so adorable!" Wei Ying eagerly boasts and winks. "He takes after me after all."
"Mn."
The newly renamed Wei Yuan coos in agreement. Wei Ying squeals at how adorable his son is.
"Lan Zhan, I'm going to take A-Yuan to see the bunnies. Want to come?"
"Mn."
He's going to have some alone time with Wei Ying!
From a few feet away, Lan Xichen had watched to make sure his little brother did not mess up his chance to clear up the misunderstanding with Wei Wuxian. He sees how his brother's golden eyes soften with warmth at the other teen and his son. Good job Wangji! Lan Xixhen internally cheers once again as he sees his brother leave with Wei Wuxian and the baby. He'll have to go to town and buy his brother a congratulatory gift.
Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian stop at Wei Wuxian's guest room to put down his notes and securely fasten A-Yuan into his sling around his father's chest.
"Alright Lan Zhan! We're ready!" Wei Wuxian laughs. "Let's go find us some bunnies!"
"Mn."
Lan Zhan had never been happy then spending the rest of the day on a(n) date outing with Wei Ying and his son and playing with the wild bunnies. It was the best day date ever.
Notes:
So I just want to give a spoiler for who A-Yuan's nursemaid is......It's Jingyi's Mom! According to MDZS's Fandom Wiki page, Jingyi is born on August 24 and A-Yuan is January 12. Jin Ling is November 21 and one year younger than Lan Yuan. The wiki doesn't say how old Jingyi is, but I'm going to make him the same year as Lan Yuan.
Just to let everyone know!

Chapter Text
The months passing in Gusu were both fast and slow to Wei Wuxian.
Fast because he saw his baby boy growing up every day. He couldn't believe that it has been three months since he adopted A-Yuan! His baby bun was now six months old! Wei Wuxian wanted to cheer and cry at how quickly his son was growing. He was so proud!
On the other hand, Old Man Lan's lectures were still boring as ever, but after each class, he, Lan Zhan, and A-Yuan would go on little outings around Cloud Recesses, even the occasional trip to Caiyi Town for the neccessary baby materials. One of Wei Wuxian's vices is not being able to save his money frugally, however, no one would ever guess that the Second Jade was just as bad as him with spending money! Wei Wuxian actually had to tell Lan Zhan sternly to not spend some much money on him and A-Yuan!
He was grateful for all the toys, clothes and gifts for A-Yuan, but if Lan Zhan bought too much, he wouldn't be able to carry it back to Lotus Pier! And it made him so flustered when Lan Zhan was so earnest in his purchases for Wei Wuxian and his son. It made his heart beat faster like he's never experienced before.
Wei Wuxian sighs, gently rocking A-Yuan in his sling, while everyone in attendance listens to Lan Qiren's monotonous lecture about the history of the Lan Clan and it's founder. The story itself is romantic and sweet, but the way Lan Qiren tells it could put any romantic to sleep from boredom. He never realizes the covert glances that turn towards him ever few seconds by the Second Jade.
A-Yuan yawns every few minutes, rubbing his eyes to try and keep himself awake. Wei Wuxian internally coos at how adorable his son is!! His sleepy adorable face is just too cute!! He wants to pinch his chubby cheeks! But, he has to hold back because it was A-Yuan was trying to sleep.
Unfortunately, the mood is broken by the chatter from the Jin disciples and Jiang Cheng's growling. Lan Qiren has yet to notice the group in the back with the tension running high between all of them.
"What is wrong with my sister?" Jiang Cheng spits out threateningly. His body is tight and ready for the offensive at the slightest bit slight against Jiang Yanli.
Wei Wuxian scowls as well. He'd be the first to fight the Peacock about his unsatisfactory feelings about his Shijie, however, he has to consider A-Yuan. He can't let his little bun get hurt. He'll also have to keep Jiang Cheng from throwing a punch as well. They can't bring any trouble for Yunmeng, even if the Peacock deserves a fist to his face.
"What isn't wrong with your sister. She's plain, boring, and has low cultivation. Why would I want to be married to a girl like that?" Jin Zixuan responds haughtily.
"Why you!" Jiang Cheng is just about to move and pummel the Peacock, but Wei Wuxian, thankfully, stops him in time.
"Let's not waste our time with the Peacock." Wei Wuxian says seriously. "She would find a better husband suited to her than this guy. Don't stoop to his level."
"Tch." Jiang Cheng's scowl his more pronounced than ever, but he at least has come to his senses about not fighting the Jin Heir. The thought of Madame Yu scolding them, because they ruined the engagement between Yunmeng and Lanling.
"Yunmeng should just stay out of Lanling's business." Jin Zixuan says to the retreating pair. That was the last straw for Jiang Cheng to ignore the Jin Heir.
"What the fuck did you just say!?"
It's too late for Wei Wuxian to stop his Shidi from pummeling the Peacock. The angry yelling had startled A-Yuan, who had only just fallen asleep, to startle awake and cry loudly. The noise instantly alerts Lan Qiren and Lan Wangji, who quickly break up the fight between the two heirs. Wei Wuxian does his best to calm down A-Yuan, though it does take some time for the infant to calm down.
"Don't worry, A-Yuan, A-Die is here." Wei Wuxian says soothingly.
"Wei Ying."
Lan Zhan is standing very close and checking that A-Yuan is alright after the loud noise. His face may not give any changes outwardly, but Wei Wuxian - who has been spending a large amount od time with Lan Zhan in the last few months, can tell the minuscule frown and the worry on the Second Jade's face.
"Don't worry, he just got startled." Wei Wuxian placates. "As soon as he calms down more, he'll go right back to sleep."
Because of the fight, Uncle Jiang and Sect Leader Jin were called to Gusu to deal with their sons. Wei Wuxian stayed nearby while Jiang Cheng was told to kneel on the gravel until his father came. For once, Wei Wuxian was quiet and solemn as he knew that is shidi was scolding himself for losing his temper and fighting while at Gusu. They both know that Madame Yu will no doubt scold Jiang Cheng for fighting and losing face for Yunmeng and scold Wei Wuxian because he didn't do anything to stop her son and/or because she would feel like venting her anger at him just because she could.
Finally, Jiang Fengmian arrived at Gusu and was immediately escorted to where Sect Leader Jin and Lan Qiren were having their meeting. It didn't take as long as the boys thought it would, but it wasn't short either. When Jiang Fengmian arrived to the spot where Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng were waiting for him, he patted Wei Wuxian's head and A-Yuan's, while he gave a disappointed look to Jiang Cheng. Wei Wuxian's heart hurt when Uncle Jiang gave him obvious affection in front of Jiang Cheng when he doesn't do the same for Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng clutches his fist tightly from the obvious favoritism his father had given to Wei Wuxian.
"Come." Jiang Fengmian says gently. "You both should pack up as we will be returning to Lotus Pier."
This shocked both boys.
"Father!" Jiang Cheng chokes. "The year to study at Gusu isn't over yet!"
"Master Lan thought it would be better for you and A-Xian to come back to Lotus Pier." Jiang Fengmian responds gently.
Jiang Cheng scowls. "So we're being kicked out! I understand why I am, but why is Wei Wuxian also leaving? He didn't even fight!"
Wei Wuxian nods in agreement. He doesn't mind going back to Lotus Pier so soon, but Jiang Cheng brings up a really good point. Though he will miss spending time with Lan Zhan and visiting all the bunnies at the back mountain.
"Both Master Lan and I thought it would be best for A-Xian to focus on raising A-Yuan back in Lotus Pier, instead of worrying about his studies as well." Jiang Fengmian turns to Wei Wuxian with a smile. "He begrudgingly mentioned how you were one of the top students in his class and didn't really need to be here. Now both of you go and pack so we can head back home."
"Okay Uncle Jiang!" Wei Wuxian says excitedly. Then he carefully holds A-Yuan with one arm, while he unties the sling with his free hand before handing his son over to Jiang Fengmian, so he can easily and quickly pack all his things.
The news of Wei Wuxian leaving Lotus Pier devastates Lan Wangji.
Now his quality time with Wei Ying and A-Yuan is over!
Running is forbidden in Gusu, but Lan Wangji walks as fast as he is able with the rules, until he gets to the building that Wei Wuxian had been staying in for the last few months since he adopted A-Yuan. He makes it in time to see Sect Leader Jiang cooing softly to the baby in his arms with Jiang Wanyin standing nearby with a prominent scowl on his face - which isn't new. When they hear his footsteps, they both turn to Lan Wangji before they all give the proper greetings to each other.
"Lan Zhan!" Wei Wuixian happily calls out. "What are you doing here?"
Suddenly Lan Wangji wishes he wasn't so impulsive to see Wei Wuixan before he left for Lotus Pier. Now Sect Leader, Jiang Wanyin, and Wei Wuxian were all staring at him, waiting for his answer. He wanted to say something! Anything! But it was extremely embarrassing to tell Wei Wuxian that he is going to miss him when he is gone, even more so since there are other people besides them and A-Yuan. Lan Wangji can see Sect Leader Jiang looking at him in concern, while Jiang Wanyin scowls.
"Wei Ying." He finally manages to say. I'll miss you and A-Yuan, he can't say out loud. So he opts for a safe response. "Wanted to check if you needed help packing."
Lan Wangji can feel his heart racing and ears turning red from the bright smile from Wei Ying.
"Actually Lan Zhan, do you have any extra quikan bags? I don't have enough room in mine for all the gifts you bought for me and A-Yuan." Wei Wuxian pleads.
"Hurry up already Wei Wuxian!" Jiang Wanyin orders. "We're going to miss the boat at this rate!"
Jiang Fengmian smiles placating, "Now, now, A-Cheng. A-Xian we do have to hurry back to Lotus Pier. Perhaps, Second Young Master Lan, can bring everything that doesn't fit in your bags to Lotus Pier himself?"
"Good idea Uncle Jiang! What do you say Lan Zhan!" Wei Wuxian excitdly babbles. "I can show you all the great places to see in Lotus Pier! We can go play and hunt pheasants and eat Lotus seeds!"
Visit Lotus Pier!? Would it be alright? Could he actually have an excuse to spend more time with Wei Ying?! Lan Wangji's are once again chaotic with thoughts of dates outings spent with Wei Ying and A-Yuan in Lotus Pier. Would Uncle allow it though? His brother would approve, as the elder is always suggesting that he try and make friends with others his age. So without further time spent thinking about it, Lan Wangji agrees to the request to bring whatever is left to Lotus Pier in a bout a week's time so everyone is settled.
Too soon in Lan Wangji's opinion, Wei Ying has finished packing whatever he could fit in his bags, carefully secures the sling on his chest and places A-Yuan inside before the Yunmeng group and Lan Wangji walk towards the entrance of Gusu. Before the walk down the steps into Caiyi Town, Wei Ying grabs A-Yuan's tiny fist and waves it at Lan Wangji.
"Say 'bye-bye Lan Zhan!' " Wei Wuxian coos in a childish voice, as he waves the baby's fist. "Say 'See you in Lotus Pier soon!'"
Lan Wangji gives a very smile, almost unnoticeable smile to Wei Ying and A-Yuan. "Mn. see you soon." He says, heart full of yearning, even before they Yunmeng group has yet to descend the stairs away from Gusu. With a heavy heart, he watches Wei Ying and his son slowly leave down the steps long until they have no doubt already left on their boat back to Yunmeng. His brother finds there, just gazing out the entrance.
Poor Wangji, Lan Xichen thinks forlornly, There must be something I can say to cheer him up.
"You could always visit Young Master Wei, Wangji." Lan Xichen gently says. He knows his brother is a bit of a wallflower, but if he is going to get his brother to be more proactive with his crush, then he will do anything he has to.
"Mn. Will visit in a week to bring the gifts for Wei Ying and A-Yuan to Lotus Pier." Lan Wangji answers his brother.
Lan Xichen stares in surprise. Others may not be able to see it, but his little brother is practically vibrating in excitement and looking like a love sick fool. Lan Xichen claps his hands in approval. His brother is taking his first steps into being proactive!! "Don't worry Wangji! Big Brother will help you in anyway I can!" He says excitedly.
Lan Zhan nods his head, ears burning red in embarrassment. "Mn."
Soon he'll see Wei Ying again. Lan Zhan's ears continue to burn red long into the day and night jsut before he manages to fall asleep thinking about Wei Ying, A-Yuan, and himself together.

Chapter Text
Lan Wangji was vibrating with excitement.
Although, no one but his brother would be able to tell. However, Lan Xichen was not there, so no one realized that what he was feeling was nervous anticipation and excitement. The boat driver just thought that he was a silent, cold, and unfeeling Young Master, as he didn't even show a bit of awe and wonder at the vibrant and lively atmosphere of Lotus Pier. The boat driver was a little offended but knew not to fight with a Young Master from a prestigious Cultivation Clan.
As his boat was nearing the docks, Lan Wangji's gaze shifted back and forth between all the people in hopes of finding the one he really wanted to see. He had yet to see Wei Ying until he got off the boat and was startled by a loud voice calling his name as Wei Ying stopped before him, with A-Yuan in his customary purple silk sling. Both The young father and son had large smiles upon their faces as they greeted Lan Wangji.
"Lan Zhan! You're finally here!" Wei Ying excitedly says. He easily wrapped an arm around Lan Wangji's and held him close. Lan Wangji felt that his heart was going to explode from how fast it was beating! He had to remain calm! It wouldn't do to pass out before he even managed to spend time with Wei Ying! Little A-Yuan giggled and wiggled around until Lan Wangji gently rubbed his head.
"I can't wait to show you all of the best places around Lotus Pier!" Wei Ying winks.
"Mn." Lan Wangji instantly berates himself for not being able to form his thoughts into coherent sentences. He could feel his ears burning, but hoped that Wei Ying wouldn't notice.
Wei Ying just smiles at his one word answer. He easily drags Lan Wangji to the Jiang Sect to quickly settle down before he shows Lan Wangji the sights. After greeting Wei Ying's adopted family, is Lan Wangji shown to a vacant guest room that is suspiciously right next to Wei Ying's. After settling down his Guqin and bags with his necessities for his stay and the rest of Wei Ying's and A-Yuan's gifts, does Wei Ying eagerly grab Lan Wangji's arm and take him to a private area reserved for the Jiang Family to appreciate the Lotus.
"Lan Zhan! Aren't the Lotus beautiful right now!?" Wei Ying asks excitedly, lightly bouncing on his feet.
"Mn. Very beautiful."
They were in a secluded pavilion upon the lakes with lotus blooming as far as the eye could see. Lan Wangji liked the peace and privacy it provided for people.
"This is my own personal Pavilion! It's also very shallow so it's easy to teach A-Yuan to swim!" Wei Ying says as he gently takes A-Yuan out of his sling and carefully undresses the baby until he is naked as the day he was born. "Here Lan Zhan! Hold him real quick!"
Lan Wangji is barely able to hold the naked baby before he understands what is happening and seeing Wei Ying taking off his outer most robes, until he is just in his under robes and eagerly takes A-Yuan back. Lan Wangji has to force his face away from staring at the under dressed Wei Ying, ears burning. "Shameless!" Lan Wangji bites out. His heart his thundering in his chest, and it doesn't help that Wei Ying just laughs happily and carefree.
"Aww Lan Zhan! You didn't say anything when I handed you a naked A-Yuan, but when I'm just in my under clothes you get so flustered!" Wei Ying teases. "Look Lan Zhan! Look at A-Yuan floating!"
Lan Wangji takes a deep breath, trying to steady his heart, before he finally turns to face a wet Wei Ying. The image will forever be burned into his mind while making his blood boil and a tension in his muscles. Water droplets cascade down from his hair down to his clavicle and the white under robe is not helping by giving glimpses onto Wei Ying's toned body. He felt like his face was over heating. It was an unusually hot day in Yunmeng, even the Jiang Family had mentioned it to him so that he wouldn't overheat.
Instead he focused (as much as he was able with a beautiful and wet Wei Ying close by) to A-Yuan who was randomly kicking his arms and legs in an effort to "swim". Wei Ying still held his hands underneath A-Yuan's tummy, and happily cheering his son on for his amazing skills in swimming.
A few hours later, Wei Ying brings A-Yuan out of the water when they both start to get pruny. Wei Ying easily and methodically drives A-Yuan with a towel that a servant had brought a while ago, then redresses him into his clothes. As it is still very warm, even with the sun setting soon, Wei Ying waits for his clothes to dry as he rocks a sleepy A-Yuan.
Though the baby is being fussy and not wanting to take his nap.
"Come on A-Yuan." Wei Ying coos. "It's nap time baobei. Otherwise, you'll be cranky during dinner."
"Is he normally this difficult to put to sleep?" Lan Wangji curiously asks. When they were at Cloud Recesses, he doesn't recollect A-Yuan being this fussy or difficult to put to sleep.
Wei Ying sighs, gently rocking his fussy son. "Not really. In fact, this is just one of his rare days where he doesn't want to take a nap." Wei Ying coos, "Is it because Lan Zhan is here A-Yuan?"
Lan Wangji jolts in surprise, though thankfully, Wei Ying doesn't notice. Doubts are running through his mind. Should he have not come to Lotus Pier? Did A-Yuan not like him anymore?
"That's it, isn't A-Yuan. You're just excited to see Lan Zhan!"
Lan Wangji's worries ease and turn to warmth at the thought of the infant not wanting to take his nap because he was excited to see him again. "Here. Let me try."
A-Yuan is carefully settled into his arms. Lan Wangji takes a deep breath and starts to hum the song he had composed months ago for Wei Ying. It would be the first time he'll sing the finished version to out loud and to the person of his affections. His gentle humming calms A-Yuan down, even as he tries to fight his eyes from closing. As Lan Wangji repeats the song over, he can hear Wei Ying join in with his own humming. With their combined voices and Wei Ying's soothing pats upon A-Yuan's back, the infant finally falls into a peaceful sleep. They continue for another repeat just in case, before they are sure that A-Yuan is deep asleep.
Wei Ying smiles softly at the image of Lan Zhan holding A-Yuan in his arms.
"Is that one of your clan's songs?" Wei Ying asks quietly while redressing.
Lan Wangji's ears once again burn, too embarrassed to let Wei Ying know, but also wanting to let his feelings known. So he decides he'll only omit some of the facts. It's not technically lying.
"Not a clan song. I composed it."
The excited gasp and sparkling grey eyes set Lan Wangji's heart ablaze once again.
”Really? You’re so amazing Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying exclaims, Brie quickly shutting his mouth when A-Yuan whines in his sky sleep. “What’s its name?”
”Doesn’t have one.” Lan Wangji responds shyly. It does have one, but the name will give away the growing feelings that he is gaining for Wei Ying. He’s not ready to admit to them just yet.
”Aww too bad.” Wei Young pouts adorably, in Lan Wangji’s humble opinion.
For the rest of A-Yuan’s nap, Lan Wangji listens as Wei Ying tells stories from his childhood, Lotus Pier, A-Yuan’s acclimation into hoods new surroundings, it feels domestic. Lan Wangji can easily imagine the three of them once again in Cloud Recesses relaxing at the back mountain and playing with the bunnies, with Wei Ying and A-Yuan permanent residents.
How he longs for that image to once again become reality.
Eventually, A-Yuan wake’s up and they head back inside for dinner. Wei Ying hands his son over to his wet nurse, while he and Lan Wangji has to the Jiang Family Private dining area. It is a completely different experience to Lan Wangji who is used to absolute silence during mealtimes.
But it wasn’t horrible because he got to see Wei Ying in his own home being carefree and wild and bright like the sun.
When it hit close to 9, Wei Ying bid him goodnight with A-Yuan in his arms already asleep before they settled into their own rooms.
That night, Lan Wangji dreamt of Wei Ying, A-Yuan and himself as a family of three, playing music and the bunnies, and maybe more adopted children to add to their family.

Chapter Text
In a blink of an eye, two weeks have passed.
In those few days, since Lan Wangji has arrived, he has spent every waking moment with Wei Ying and A-Yuan. Lan Wangji is now more sure of his feelings for Wei Ying since he first met the mischievous boy. It was wonderful to also see the growth of A-Yuan since he was first adopted by Wei Ying.
The night before he was supposed to leave Lotus Pier, Lan Wangji had the sudden urge to pretend that the time of leaving was wrong and continue staying with Wei Ying and A-Yuan longer. But he had to fiercely disquiet those thoughts, as he repacked his robes and all the trinkets he had been given by Wei Ying. Even when he went to bed at Gusu Lan's strict curfew, he couldn't sleep. The knot of anxiety in his heart did not ease up even after his morning meditation.
He wouldn't leave until much later, but the thought that he wouldn't be seeing Wei Ying or A-Yuan again for quite some time was hard to reconcile with himself. The days spent with Wei Ying and A-Yuan have been the best days of his life, and going back to Gusu's rigid and monotonous life no longer seems appealing as it had once been for him. However, he couldn't over stay his welcome despite Sect Leader Jiang's approval for a longer stay. Lan Wangji is also sure that Madame Yu's signature scowl has grown as the days pass with him being here with Wei Ying.
He wants to take Wei Ying away from the cruelty of Madame Yu, but he is unsure if Wei Ying would be willing to leave the only home he has ever known. The thought settles heavily into his mind, many possibilities whirring within his mind. An idea quickly settled on his mind. It would work, but it would all depend on Wei Ying's answer. However, he would first have to discus it first with Uncle and brother.
Though perhaps he could bring it up subtly to Wei Ying?
He ate breakfast with the Wei Ying, A-Yuan, and the Jiang Family as usual, before he sent the next few hours together with the father and son duo before he had to leave.
When Wei Ying walked him to the docks, Lan Wangji could tell that Wei Ying was not as talkative or enthusiastic as normal. His heart leapt up in excitement. Was this perhaps because Wei Ying didn't want him to leave? He had to shake those thoughts out of his head, and focus on what Wei Ying was saying.
They met up with the rest of the Jiang FAmily who were waiting by the docks for them. He is surprised that Madam Yu has deigned it worth her time to see him off, but he supposes, she does not want to offend a direct Heir to GusuLan in any way. After giving the customary farewells tot he Sect Leader and his family, Lan Wangji turned towards Wei Ying.
"Lan Er-Gege," Wei Ying pouts. "A-Yuan and I are going to be so bored and lonely without you." Jiang Wanyin snorts in disgust, but everyone pretty much ignores Wei Ying's flirtatious tone.
This was his chance! All he add to do was ask, What do you think about marriage? It was easy. Just six little words. He could do it. Sure it was daunting to do so with Wei Ying's family near by, but this was his only chance!
"Wei Ying." Lan Wangji says.
Yes! He had Wei Ying's full attention! Now just the rest of the question he could do this!
"Yes? Lan Zhan?"
Lan Wangji had never cursed his inability to speak eloquently like his brother than he did now. It was now or never! Come on Lan Wangji! It's not hard! He internally scolded himself, even though his face never even showed a hint of his discomfort.
"Wei Ying, Marry me."
Wei YIng's eyes opened wide along with his mouth falling open. It took a second before Lan Wangji realized what he said, making his ears flush bright red and wishing he had just kept his mouth shut after all. What was wrong with him?! Now Wei Ying would be disgusted with him!
The Jiang Family were also staring at him with shock. Jiang Yanli giggled and hid her knowing smile behind her sleeve, while Jiang Wanyin scowled so hard, Lan Wangji barely thought about their reactions ecept that JIang Wanyin's face may permanently stay that way.
"Wei Wuxian is no cut-sleeve!" Jiang Wanyin immediately retorts.
"A-Cheng" Is Jiang Fengmian's stern but mild reply to his son's outburst. Jiang Fengmian then turns towards the Second Jade a pleasant, but equally distant smile upon his face. "Second Young Master Lan," he begins gently. "I am pleased that you think highly of A-Xian, however, marriage is a huge decision and commitment." Madam Yu sneers at his words, but says nothing. "Ultimately, it is A-Xian's decision and I will fully support his choice in the matter."
Everyone turns to look at a now blushing Wei Ying who is holding a giggling infant in his arms tightly.
"O-oh. w-well", Wei Ying stuttered. "Um."
Lan Wangji gazed at his beloved with such yearning eyes (though to everyone else it looked like he was glaring forcibly to get Wei Ying to agree. Jiang Wanyin wanted to punch the Second Jade's face until it was black and blue.)
Thankfully, Jiang Fengmian once again stepped in to dispel the awkward atmosphere. "Perhaps it would be best if I go with you Second Young Master Lan to discuss it more with your Uncle? This will also give both you and A-Xian time during the engagement period to see if you are both in agreement to marriage."
Lan Wangji nodded in acquiescence.
He was slightly disappointed and hurt when Wei Ying didn't answer right away, but he shook those thoughts away, because he knew that Wei Ying was just surprised by his question. Lan Wangji understands that Wei Ying may be hesitant because A-Yuan has recently come into his life, and marriage may seem like a sudden thing while he is figuring out his new parenting role. Lan Wangji is willing to wait for however long he needs for Wei Ying's answer.
If he start the courting as soon as possible, Wei Ying may be charmed and would agree in the future. Even though his blush has receded some, Wei Ying's cheeks are still a fetching pink, that doesn't stop him from excitedly waving A-Yuan's hand and yelling goodbyes until the boat has since disappeared from their view. Lan Wangji is determined to win over Wei Ying's heart!
