Chapter Text

Shinsou hadn’t meant to fall asleep on the roof of one of the buildings, he’d just wanted to get away from the noise of his classmates.

After joining 2A and starting his hero studies he’d been adopted against his will by the loudest people of the class, both the Bakusquad (bar Bakugou of course) and Dekusquad seemed to insist upon him being friends, despite his protests otherwise. They made sure he was almost never alone, except for when he was ‘sleeping’ (re: not, cause who has a set sleep schedule really) in his dorm room.

The day had started normal, leaving his room at 5 am to get coffee before having a shower and getting ready for class, being dragged there by Midoriya and Uraraka, then sitting down and studying all day. Lunch was noisy, as normal, and he’d started to develop a headache by the end of it, nothing some painkillers and a coffee hadn’t fixed before.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t realised that he was out of painkillers until that very moment, having had taken the last of them yesterday, and someone had broken the coffee machines in the lunchroom. The last one wouldn’t have been a problem, he could have just gone and found one of the vending machines that provide it in the school, except Kaminari decided at that moment to force him to their table for the rest of lunch, meaning he couldn’t get any coffee before classes started again.

Which meant he had to suffer through the last classes of the day with a raging headache and no coffee. By the end of the day he just wanted to cry/smash his face on the table at how much his head hurt. It had turned from a bad headache to a full-on migraine by the time the last class had finished.

Normally he would slowly exit the class, following Midoriya and Iida to the training grounds before working out together. Today however he just sat with his head in his arms on the desk while his classmates filed out.

“Are you okay Shinsou?”

He opened one eye to look at Kirishima and just groaned slightly at his question. Bakugou, standing behind the redhead, clearly irritated they hadn’t left the class yet, tsked at his response.

“You know class has ended right?” Kirishima prodded, while he slowly lifted his head and stood up.

“Yes, yes I’m leaving now. Thank you for your concern or whatever.” It wasn’t that he didn’t appreciate Kirishima checking it was just that his head was pounding and holding a conversation was definitely past his capabilities at the current time.

“Come on shitty hair, leave eyebags to die, he’s clearly halfway there already,” Bakugou laughed while walking out the door, Kirishima protesting but following him out nonetheless.

Sighing slightly, he grabbed his bag and walked out, not really noticing where he went. He thinks about going to the dorm but knows Midoriya will be waiting to practice, and there was no way he would be escaping if Midoriya found him, so instead he just wandered the building until he accidently wound up on the roof.

The sun was kind of starting to go down but if he sat behind the door entry-way thing he would be in complete shade which was good for his eyes. He emptied out his bag to make it softer, took off his jacket to put it on top of the bag as well, effectively creating a makeshift pillow. Laying down on the cool concrete in the shade, his arms over his face to make it even darker, and turning on some soft music on his phone, he quickly fell asleep.

___________________________

Bakugou didn’t care that Kirishima and the rest of them wanted to be friends with the purple fucker, he really didn’t.

So, when Kirishima decided to make him stay back after class to talk to said fucker he was rightfully annoyed. Who cared if he was acting weird all class? Who cared if he flinched every time someone talked too loud? Who cared if Bakugou noticed these things without thinking? Whatever his problem was, it wasn’t Bakugou’s problem.

It wasn’t like shitty hair or dunce face or even shitty Deku had noticed those things, only he had. But it wasn’t his problem, so he didn’t fucking care!

And when Deku came into the common room a few hours after class asking if anyone had seen the insomniac cause he hadn’t shown up to their usual training and he wasn’t answering his phone, he still didn’t care. But he still helped the rest of the class in informing Aizawa that he was missing, and the following search party, because even if he didn’t care (which he definitely didn’t) he wasn’t an asshole and he was better at looking for people than any of the other extras in his class so of course he would help them.

Everyone was split into groups and sent to different areas of campus in the hope the purple fuck hadn’t left or been taken somehow. Him, shitty hair, cheeks, and four eyes were in one group and given one of the buildings to search. They decided to split up, Bakugou would go to the top and work his way down, shitty hair and cheeks would start in the middle and split, cheeks going up to meet him and shitty hair going down to meet four eyes, who was starting at the bottom.

Given he wasn’t an idiot like the rest of his classmates he started at the very top of the building, the roof. He opened the door and looked around a bit, was about to turn back in when he heard soft music playing.

Walking around the entrance to the roof he saw the purple fuck sleeping on the ground, curled like a cat, clearly cold. So without a second thought he took his jacket off and laid it on top of him, pulling out his phone to text Aizawa that Shinsou (carful to use his name so that Aizawa wouldn’t tell him off later) was fine, and that they’d come back to the dorm in a while.

Aizawa, for his part, was too tired to care that the new hero student was potentially being murdered by his more aggressive problem child somewhere on campus, so long as they were both indeed on campus, and so sent out a group text that Shinsou had been found and for everyone to go back to their dorm.

Having also received the group text Bakugou sat on the ground at Shinsou’s head and started playing with his phone.

He didn’t actually care about the loser and he definitely didn’t care that it looked like he was sleeping properly for the first time in two weeks, which totally wasn’t why when he heard a small whimper from the boy next to him he gently started rubbing his back in small comforting circles, hoping he wouldn’t wake up.

When he realised that he hadn’t even noticed the contents of the idiots bag spread on the ground in front of the sleeping boy he quickly started to collect it into a neat pile at his feet, being careful to keep a hand on his back and rub circles.

Mostly it was just textbooks or whatever from class, what concerned Bakugou however, was the seven empty pain med packets, which really, he could have just left them in there to collect over the course of a few months or something, its not like hero students don’t get a lot of injuries, it wasn’t weird really. Except that it made Bakugou realise that he’d seen the purple haired boy take two almost everyday at lunch since classes had started, sometimes two more at night in the common room too depending on the day, almost always with coffee, almost never with food.

He may not have been a medical professional in the slightest but he knew that taking pain meds that often couldn’t have been good, and definitely couldn’t be for the normal ‘aches and pains’ of hero classes either, because if it were just that surely Recovery Girl would have fixed it for him easy enough.

He looked through his class books a little to see if there were any clues, not that it was likely, and was surprised to find mentions of headaches and migraines in the margins of almost every notebook the purple boy owned.

Every entry was dated, probably to keep track of the classes, and some days didn’t have any notes in the margin, but the ones that did all focused on the same things. The notes from that day said something about no meds, coffee broken, and blinding pain behind his eyes, with a small doodle of knives stabbing into eyes that Bakugou guessed would have been coloured purple if he’d had a coloured pen in class.

Looking from the notebook to the boy bellow him it was easy to see that he was still in pain, the way he was curled in on himself and how his face grimaced every so often.

Deciding he wasn’t going to get any better from sleeping out in the open any longer Bakugou gently, much more gently than he would ever admit to, prodded the pale boy awake, still rubbing his back comfortingly.

Shinsou made a groaning sound as he woke up, not even registering the person next to his head, or the fact that his back was being rubbed softly, instead rubbing his eyes harshly before stretching out like a cat.

He heard a soft amused noise from above him and opened his eyes to see Bakugou looking down at him, with soft sunset colours warmly spilling out behind him.

“Bakugou?” he grunted out roughly, voice low and thick with sleep still.

“Yeah yeah, come on ya sleepyhead-”, at this point he realised Bakugou was giving him a very soft look while still rubbing his back, making him blush a little despite himself, “-we’re going to Recovery Girl and then to the dorms, you need to sleep in a fucking bed.”

He sat up a little at that, Bakugou’s jacket falling into his lap, as he leaned a little on the blond, not really caring about personal space when he was still partly asleep.

To Bakugou’s credit he didn’t snap at him, instead just grabbing Shinsou’s bag and shoving his school stuff and jacket into it, before grabbing his own jacket from Shinsous’ lap and gently putting it around his shoulders.

Shinsou wondered what was going on briefly, the most explosive boy in his class was gently and quietly helping him from the roof and down to Recovery Girl’s office without even a small spark? But his wonderings were cut off by a sharp pain to his head when they walked past a window that was letting the last light of the day in.

He groaned softly, leaning into Bakugou even more than before as he turned towards the other boy to try hide from the light. Bakugou didn’t even flinch as his personal space was invaded even more, just lifted his arm to wrap around the purple boy and tug him against his chest more.

Shinsou, had he been in his right mind, would have been a blushing mess at being so close to the blond. As he was, he just sighed quietly and let Bakugou drag him to where they needed to go, glad to no longer have the light in his eyes.

He didn’t realise they had even made it to Recovery Girl’s office until she kissed his hand and his migraine suddenly lessened to a mild headache instead.

He could hear her talking softly, “He’ll be tired and will probably still have a headache, get some water into him and then let him sleep. I’ll write a note for you to give Aizawa to excuse both of you from class tomorrow, as I’m sure you could both use the break.”

All she got in reply was a soft grunt from Bakugou, who was still holding Shinsou like he had the whole walk, but she didn’t seem to mind, already turning away to write the note.

Shinsou drifted off again just standing there, feeling warm and safe in Bakugou’s arms, and the next thing he knew he was being moved onto Bakugou’s back before the blond started walking them to their dorm.

He briefly wondered where his bag had gone and if he was too heavy to be carried by Bakugou like this, but then he realised that he didn’t care about his bag at the current minute, and Bakugou was definitely strong enough to carry him no worries, so he just drifted back to almost sleep.

Bakugou gently readjusted Shinsou on his back, moving him up slightly and hooking one arm more securely around the other boy, to ensure he didn’t slide off his back. He used his other arm to try find either Shinsous’ or his own room key, figuring the faster he got the boy on his back into a bed the better.

The walk through the UA grounds was peaceful, almost relaxing even. With the warmth of Shinsou pressed against his back and the small exhale of breath against his neck from the purple boys light breathing, Bakugou almost didn’t hate the situation he had found himself in.

Turning the corner that lead him to the 2A dorm the sudden realisation that his idiot classmates would in no way be quiet when he walked through the doors, especially when he had Shinsou on his back basically asleep like this.

Bakugou grabbed his phone from his pocket, sighed unhappily, and dialled Kirishima’s number.

“BAKUBROO WHERE ARE YOU DUDE?”

“Oi shitty hair, shut the fuck up.” He hissed into his phone, trying to keep his voice down.

“Woah Bakugou what’s up bro, why are you being so quiet??” Bakugou could just see the red head tilting his head in confusion at his phone as he asked.

“Just listen to me shitty hair okay?” waiting till he had confirmation that he was being listen to Bakugou continued, “I’m guessing you’re in the common room with most everyone else. I need you to get everyone to shut up and not make any fucking noise while I come through with fucking hypnofreak, understood?”

“What? Why? Baku what’s up with Shinsou?”

“Look I’ll tell you later or whatever okay just fucking make everyone shut the fuck up or I’ll personally murder everyone.”

“Okay Okay!! I’ll do it! Gimme a sec bro,” Bakugou waited for a minute or two while Kirishima clearly went around the room and got everyone to shup up before he spoke again,
“okay everyone’s quiet I promise, come in when you’re ready!”

“Alright I’m coming in, everyone better stay quiet till I’m gone or they’re dead!” he hissed before hanging up abruptly.

Sighing sadly a little that the peace he was feeling was about to be completely ruined he hitched Shinsou up his back a little more and moved towards the doors, walking in with his usual angry scowl on his face.

True to his word the shark toothed boy had managed to get everyone to shut up one way or another. Some had hands, either their own or others, clamped over their mouths, others had been tapped shut (clearly the work of elbows).

They all watched in amazement as Bakugou walked through the room, heading to the elevators. Dunceface looked like he was about to vibrate the tape off his mouth, while Pinky next to him wasn’t doing much better. Cheeks had actually started to float in shock, a small squeak leaving her mouth before she slammed her hands onto her mouth while Frog girl grabbed her ankle with her tongue. Four eyes looked like he was on the verge of yelling but after one swift look from Bakugou seemed to decide better. Deku, the nerd, had started quietly crying next to the Katy Perry bitch, who looked like he couldn’t care less.

Finally, Bakugou made it to the elevator, pushed the button and stepped inside. He hadn’t been able to find Shinsous’ room key, so he pushed the button for his own floor just as he heard the common room erupt into chaos behind the closed doors.

Sighing for what felt like the thousandth time that day he stepped out of the elevator and into his hall. He locked eyes with Shoji (the guy didn’t annoy his so yes he used his actual name) as he stepped out of his bedroom, and signed for him to be quiet. Shoji just nodded and offered to open Bakugou’s door for him, which he accepted by passing his key over.

Shoji opened the door and he stepped inside, turning to grab his key and sign thank you, before closing his door and making his way to his bed. The fact that he didn’t turn on his lights was because he couldn’t be bothered, not at all because he knew the light would hurt the boy still on his back.

He gently dropped Shinsou down onto the bed, taking the purple boys shoes off for him and putting them on the floor with his bag, before tucking him into the bed and quietly slipping out of the room and back downstairs again.

Bakugou had only intended to get some water and food for both Shinsou and himself, but he’d forgotten about his classmates.

“Bakubabe! What was that?! Is Shinsou alright?” Mina was the first to see him when he stepped out, as she had moved near the elevator after he left.

“Kachann! Where’s Shinsou?!” Deku had clearly only just stopped crying but looked like he was about to again if Bakugou said the wrong thing.

Bakugou drew in a long breathe, looking around the room at his classmates watching him, before speaking.

“Alright fuckers, I’m only saying this once okay? So listen close. Mindfreak gets migraines, bad ones. He clearly had one today, ran out of pain meds, and fell asleep on one of the roofs. I found him and took him to Recovery Girl. He’s still feeling bad and needs to rest. I can’t find his shitty room key and he needs watching, so I’m keeping an eye on him. If anyone makes any loud fucking noises near my room in the next 24 hours, I’ll kill you so badly even the league won’t want me. Now I’m going to eat some fucking food, get some water and take care of the fucking purple fucker. If any of you have a problem with it you can eat a dick,” Looking around to survey the room and everyone’s reactions he gave a quick nod, “and here, four eyes. Recovery Girl gave fuckface and me the day off tomorrow, give this to sensei for me.”

He shoved the paper into the tall boys face before stalking off to the kitchen, shoving some food from the night before into his face, before grabbing an extra plate and two bottles of water and walking quickly into the elevator again, ignoring his classmates entirely and their endless questions.

He bashed his head against the wall briefly before pressing his floor button and hurrying back into his room, making sure to lock it in case one of the fuck faces he shares the dorm with tries to sneak in or something.

Putting the water and food on his bedside table where hopefully Shinsou would see it when he woke up, Bakugou stretched, popping his elbow and back joints, before getting himself ready for bed.

Bakugou lay on the floor near his bed with his spare blanket in his sleep shorts and a tank top, listening to Shinsou’s breathing above him.

He went to sleep after groaning softly, his face flushed pink for reasons he’d never admit.

____________________________

When Shinsou woke up in a room that was definitely not his own he was confused to say the least. There was no lavender smell but the room did smell sweet, like burnt caramel or something. The walls didn’t have his normal soft purple fairy lights, in fact there was almost no light at all except for what was coming in from the moon outside the window.

Groaning softly he stretched as he sat up, looking around to see a bottle of water next to him. Seeing it made him realise how parched his mouth was, so he opened it quietly and started to drink while looking around the room some more.

The clock on the bedside indicated it was around 3am, when he would usually either be doing homework or sneaking around the dorm for no reason. The room was mostly bare except for some study materials and gym weights that he could barely see under the desk. Then he looked at the ground closer to himself and had to stop himself from choking on the water still in his mouth.

Because sleeping peacefully on the ground next to him was the usually explosive blond that he definitely did not have any feelings for whatsoever. It wasn’t like seeing the boy made his heart stutter and his face warm or anything. And he definitely did not feel the very strong need to grab his phone and take a photo just to prove he wasn’t dreaming. But he didn’t because that would be creepy and unhero like and –

Oh
Oh no

His head wasn’t sore anymore, but it would be soon with the way he was pulling at his hair. Because the purple haired boy had definitely not just remembered what had happened earlier this afternoon. Did not remember waking up to Bakugou looking at him softly with beautiful sunset light behind him, did not remember said sunset boy rubbing circles into his back, basically carrying him to Recovery Girl without the slightest complaint, and then LITERALLY carrying him back to the dorms and into… oh gods he was in Bakugou’s room.

Well at least when the blond woke up and exploded him into oblivion, he could die happy with the memories of how gorgeous he had looked in the soft sunset light.

With that thought in mind Shinsou laid back down on the bed, grabbing a pillow and wrapping it in a death grip before pulling the blanket back up and going back to sleep, surrounded by the sweet caramel smell.

Death couldn’t come soon enough.

____________________________

Bakugou, despite all efforts to ignore it, undeniably had a crush on the purple fuck. Waking up to see said fuck snuggled into his bedding, looking so calm and open, didn’t help him with this fact. In fact, looking at the boy asleep in his bed and not even feeling the slightest bit annoyed that he had to sleep on his own floor, just sealed the deal for him. He was gunna do it… as soon as he had a shower and brushed his teeth.

So, grabbing some clothes and toiletries, he left his room quietly and went to the showers. It was around 5am so there wasn’t anyone else there thank god.

He got back to his room in record time, seeing absolutely no one on his way, either by luck or because the rest of his class was being smart and avoiding him for once. Whatever the case he was glad, because he almost had a heart attack opening his door to see a sleepy Shinsou stretching and rubbing his eyes like an actual cat. He almost died right then and there, would have believed anyone that said he had honestly.

He closed the door softly, but purple eyes still snapped to where he was standing, widening and then quickly looking away, not meeting his own red eyes. He watched as silently as the other boy seemed to curl in on himself, red spreading across his white cheeks.

“Um, I-I’m sorry, I’ll just-”

“NO!” Bakugou cut him off before he could stop himself, causing Shinsou to look up in shock. “Sorry! Just, it’s okay… you don’t have to go or anything.”

“Ah, are you sure? I think I might have stolen your bed and I’m sure I annoyed you yesterday…” and Bakugou had to stop himself reaching out and hugging the poor boy because he looked so cute and sorry saying it.

“Honestly it’s fucking fine, you’re not half as annoying as the other extras, even when you’re basically fucking passed out.” He grunted out instead, shuffling closer and sitting on the edge of his bed while Shinsou looked up with bright eyes.

“Mm well thank you very much for that… it might have been the best sleep I’ve gotten in the past few months, so really thank you.” Shinsou said softly, looking down and ringing his hands together.

They sat for a moment in silence before Bakugou said “fuck it” and reached out to take Shinsous’ hand in his own, gentle but firm too.

Bakugou watched as Shinsou took a sharp inhale, looking up and meeting his eyes with a searching look before carefully turning his palm in Bakugou’s hand to lace their fingers together properly, then looking down at their joined hands with a soft smile.

Bakugou moved closer, touching their knees together on the bed, before using his free hand to cradle the other boys’ cheek, gently encouraging him to look up before speaking quietly.

“I really don’t mind eyebags, I’d do it again… I fucking like you.”

And slowly, oh so slowly like he was worried Bakugou was playing a joke or was about to explode the hand he was still holding, Shinsou leaned forward and pressed their lips together, just briefly, before leaning their foreheads against each other, and smiled while softly laughing.

“I fucking like you too blondie.” He breathed out.

And just like that they were kissing again, softly and tentatively but kissing all the same, Shinsou moving to sit in Bakugou’s lap and wrapping his freehand into spiky blonde hair carefully. Bakugou moved his hand from Shinsous face to wrap around his waist gently, just holding him while they kissed, hands still intertwined.

Bakugou smiled into the kiss before pulling back slowly, red eyes looking into purple, before shaking his head and laughing, still smiling and said, “You know… everyone’s probably worried I’ve killed you seeing as they saw me bring you in last night.”

“Well,” Shinsou said with his own smile, “they’re not entirely wrong, you’ve certainly taken my breath away.”

And if they walked into the common room still holding hands and smiling softly, well everyone else was too shocked to say anything anyway.
