Chapter Text
Hyung!
Taehyung dashed out of the elevator, deep voice booming and echoing in the large but quiet house, startling Seokjin who was currently watching a thriller film on his flat screen 100-inch living room TV. He stopped at the entryway to remove his shoes and hung his jacket on the coat rack to his left.
Why is it so dark?
Taehyung asked, pausing in front of the cluster of switches at the end of the entryway to turn the recess lights on before heading to the huge sectional couch. Oh good, it just started.
Sitting down beside Seokjin, he got comfortable and propped his socked feet on the low coffee table. Noticing the silence, he turned his head to the side to look at Seokjin.
What’s wrong, hyung?
He asked, reaching over and taking the bowl of popcorn from Seokjin’s lap. Seokjin’s eyes were wide and his mouth was open like he’s surprised. Or annoyed. No. He’s probably just scared of the movie.
Aw, are you afraid of the movie? Don’t worry, I’m here now.
Taehyung cooed then stuffed his mouth with a handful of salty, buttered popcorn. Seokjin narrowed his eyes at him and took the remote resting on the coffee table besides Taehyung’s feet, pausing the movie.
What are you doing here, Taehyung-ah?
Seokjin asked, eyes still narrowed and took back the popcorn from Taehyung’s arm.
It’s friday night.
Taehyung said matter-of-factly like it should explain why he was there, barging on Seokjin’s door and invading his movie night.
So what if it’s friday night? Don’t you have places to go? Friends to see? Parties to attend?
Seokjin held the popcorn out of Taehyung’s reach, avoiding his grabby hands.
No, hyung. I hate parties, my best friend ditched me for his boyfriend, my work friends are out clubbing and my roommate’s on a date. You’re all I've got.
Taehyung leaned over, grabbing Seokjin’s outstretched arm that was holding the popcorn and tried pulling it closer to him. Seokjin kept him away with his other arm against his chest.
Yoongi’s on a date?
Seokjin asked, sounding a little bit surprised and a little bit skeptic.
Yes.
Are you sure?
Well, he said he’s having dinner with a friend but he didn’t look me in the eye and scratched his ear when he said it. So, yeah, he’s on a date.
Taehyung answered with conviction.
I bet you 10, 000 won it’s not a date.
Seokjin challenged.
What? Yes, it’s a date. He dressed up!
Really?
Taehyung paused in his struggling to think about Yoongi’s get up. He wore a denim jacket over a black, long sleeved shirt and he had his favourite ripped jeans on. Oh, and he also used his new bucket hat. Taehyung nodded his head, convinced. It was definitely a date.
Fine, i’ll take your bet.
Cool. Now, can you please get off my lap so I can watch my movie?
Taehyung looked down to see one of his legs draped across Seokjin’s lap while one of his hands were holding onto Seokjin’s shoulder and the other was grabbing the forearm of Seokjin’s outstretched arm. Seokjin’s left hand was pushing at Taehyung’s chest, probably the only reason why Taehyung was not fully straddling Seokjin.
Wow, I must really like popcorn. I didn’t even notice I was this close to hyung.
Taehyung grinned at Seokjin before sitting back down beside him, keeping a friendly distance this time, with one leg tucked under the other. Seokjin resumed the movie and without looking at Taehyung, placed the bowl of popcorn on Taehyung’s crossed legs. Taehyung beamed and giggled, shoving a handful of popcorn in his smiling mouth.
…
Where have you been?
Taehyung jumped in his skin and dropped his jacket on the floor, his poor heart beating wildly against his chest. Yoongi stood in the middle of their dark living room, illuminated only by the streetlights streaming in through the window, clad in his favourite navy blue silk pyjamas and holding a cup of chamomile tea. Hopefully. The man’s addicted to coffee.
Holy crap, hyung! What are you doing standing there in complete darkness?
Taehyung’s shrill voice sounded awful even in his own ears. He walked towards the floor lamp beside the couch and switched it on. Why are people so fond of lounging in their living room in darkness?
I think it’s you who should be answering my questions, young man.
Yoongi intoned, eyes following Taehyung’s movements. He placed his free hand on his hip and narrowed his eyes at Taehyung. The man might be shorter than him but he was a lot more intimidating. Taehyung gulped.
Where have you been and what were you doing until one in the morning?
First of all,
Taehyung started, trying not to sound defensive, it’s only 12:52. And second of all, I was doing nothing! I was at Jin hyung’s. We just watched a movie and had a midnight snack.
Did he drive you home?
Yeah, he did.
Yoongi hummed and took a slow sip of whatever was in his cup. He was looking at Taehyung like he was waiting for Taehyung to talk more. Maybe he wants me to ask him about his date.
Why are you still awake, hyung? How was your date?
Yoongi choked and coughed into his cup. Taehyung bit his lip in an attempt to hide his smile. Yoongi wiped his chin with the sleeve of his pyjamas and cleared his throat.
It wasn’t a date. I only had dinner with a friend.
A friend? But you wore your new bucket hat, hyung.
It wasn’t new.
Yoongi replied a little too fast. I bought it a week ago.
It was Taehyung’s turn to be suspicious. Yoongi didn’t blush but Taehyung was sure if he touched Yoongi's cheeks right now they’ll feel warm as a fresh cup of tea.
You’re being weird, Yoongi hyung.
He walked closer to Yoongi, examining his face with narrowed eyes. His suspicion only grew when Yoongi avoided eye contact. Their faces were now only inches apart and Taehyung tried not to lose in their impromptu staring contest. It only took a few seconds before Yoongi gave up. He smirked internally, knowing his roommate’s weaknesses are physical closeness and physical contact.
Yoongi scrambled away from Taehyung, putting down his cup on the coffee table beside them. Taehyung noticed the cup was already empty and the inside looked dry like it had been empty the whole time. So did he choke on air earlier?
It wasn’t a date, okay?
Yoongi’s voice was calm, but his face showed otherwise. I went to dinner with your brother. He asked me to keep it a secret because he wanted to surprise you. The others don’t know he’s back yet.
Yoongi’s deep sigh was accompanied with Taehyung’s excited gasp.
Hyungie’s here?!
Well, not here as in our apartment. But here as in Seoul. He’s staying with Hobi, obviously. They’re boyfriends and are living together.
Yoongi muttered, turning his back on Taehyung and plopping himself down on the armchair on the other side of the room.
Of course, of course.
Taehyung said absentmindedly, bouncing towards the armchair Yoongi was occupying and squeezed himself beside him. He got as comfortable as he could and wrapped his long arms around a grumbling Yoongi.
Don’t worry, hyung. I'll act surprised tomorrow.
Yoongi grunted and finally relaxed and accepted Taehyung’s cuddle.
Oh, right. I forgot to tell you, another package came for you this afternoon. Our receptionist gave it to me when I came home from dinner. She looked guilty because she forgot about it. It’s already in your room.
Taehyung closed his eyes and groaned.
That was the second gift this month. He’s getting persistent.
Yoongi drawled.
I don't know what to do, hyung.
Taehyung whined pitifully, squeezing Yoongi harder. Yoongi grunted and wriggled in his seat until Taehyung stopped his squeezing.
Just send it back and ask him to stop.
I already did that. It didn't work. And worse, my grandmother scolded me on the phone for an hour.
Taehyung pouted, arms itching to squeeze something for comfort.
But he’s your ex. He shouldn't be sending you unwanted gifts. It’s been what? A year? Maybe your grandma will understand now. Just try again. It won’t hurt.
Okay, hyung. I’ll try.
Taehyung sighed.
Let’s go to sleep, kid. Your brother’s coming here tomorrow for breakfast so you better wake up earlier than you usually do.
Taehyung squealed right on Yoongi’s ear and stood up. He took Yoongi’s hand to help him up, ignoring the glare thrown his way. He didn't let go until they reached his room.
Good night, hyung.
Taehyung yawned, not bothering to cover his mouth and grinned at the sleepy Yoongi. He received a pat on the head for his cuteness.
Sleep well, kiddo.
Yoongi said before he lumbered towards his own bedroom at the end of the hall.
Taehyung entered his room, went straight to his dresser and got his white pyjamas with cute bears printed on it. Seokjin had a similar one but in pink. He quickly changed into it, not bothering to shower since he already took one after he came from work. He still needed to wash his face, brush his teeth and pee though, so he took his fluffy headband from his bedside table and moved towards his en suite bathroom but stopped when he saw a package the size of a shoebox sitting on top of his desk.
The sight filled Taehyung with annoyance and dread. He didn't have to check the sticker on top of the box to know that it came from Daegu and was sent by a Choi Seungjae. He sighed deeply before picking it up to put it where it’s predecessors lay, under the bed. He shook the box lightly, hearing some faint rattling and checked for a fragile or a perishable label. When he found none he walked towards his bed and slid the box underneath, hearing it bump with the other boxes. There. Out of sight, out of mind. He dusted nonexistent dirt from his pyjama pants and continued walking towards the bathroom.
After doing his business in the bathroom, he snuggled under the covers and hugged his body pillow, sighing with contentment. He was almost asleep when he suddenly sat up and fumbled blindly around for his phone. He opened his messages, eyes squinting against the bright light and tapped on the name at the very top, typing out a short message.
He lied back down and placed his phone on his chest. Five minutes. If there’s no reply, i’ll go to sleep. He closed his eyes, just to rest them, and unwillingly fell asleep.
…
The sound of his alarm startled him awake. He swiped his phone screen to turn the awful sound off. 6:00 AM. Too early to be awake on a saturday. He groaned and smacked his lips, wiping the bit of drool that came out of the side of his mouth with the back of his hand. He didn’t plan on falling asleep but maybe he was more tired than he thought he was. Remembering that he was supposed to be waiting for a reply before falling asleep, he unlocked his phone to check his unread messages. He opened the latest one first.
Jiminie🥰
5:46 AM
good morning, Taetae! Hyungie said u dropped by lst nyt.
Sry we ditched u.😔
it’s been so long since gguk and i went on a proper date.
pllleeeeeaaaasssseee forgive me
Taehyung wasn’t really mad at his best friend. They needed time for themselves and he wasn’t the kind of friend who gets salty over things like that. And he enjoyed spending time with his Seokjin hyung so there really was no need for Jimin to apologise. But he decided it wouldn’t hurt to turn the situation to his advantage. He smiled as he sent his reply.
Me
6:04 AM
i missed u 🥺 i hope u had a good time last nyt.
He knew Jimin wouldn’t be able to stop himself from spoiling and babying Taehyung for the next three days, at least. He was planning on cutely asking for hugs and cuddles. Jimin would also probably make Jeongguk give him free snacks too. It was fine. The boy was rich. He checked the other message box next.
Seokjinnie Hyungie
2:28 AM
HA! I told you it wasn't a date. Yoonie would’ve told me if it was.
By the way, why are you still up? You should sleep.
2:37 AM
So you fell asleep right after texting me?
At least say good night brat 😑
Taehyung smacked his forehead. He couldn’t believe he fell asleep that fast. He quickly sent a reply.
Me

He was surprised to receive a reply from Seokjin right after he sent his text.
Seokjinnie Hyungie

He basically lives here. Those two are always together.

They came home too early last night
Found them already lounging on the couch after I dropped you off.

Seokjinnie Hyungie
6:12 AM
Ofc not! But it's weird
Ive never seen jeongguk like this before
They act so domestic. It's like they're in love or something.
Wait.
Are they in love?
Taehyung giggled at his hyung's silliness. How could he not realize the two were in love?
Me
6:13 AM

and accdg to u are practically living tgt
i sure hope thyre in love😐
Seokjinnie Hyungie
6:15 AM
Damn. My baby brother's gonna get married before me.
Mom's gonna kill me.
Taehyung tried to imagine his two best friends getting married and starting their life together. He wasn't surprised when the picture he imagined was so clear, those two already act like a married couple. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Jeongguk ended up marrying before his older brother but he wouldn't tell Seokjin that.
Me
6:16 AM
ur getting ahead of urself there, hyung. 😆
gguk's still in uni.
Seokjinnie Hyungie
6:17 AM
Mom married my dad straight after uni
Ggukie's a senior
They'll get married next year. Mark my words.

Seokjinnie Hyungie
6:23
Fine🙄
See you later, VV
Taehyung locked his phone. The sun was already peeking in the horizon, invading his room through the window covered by the sheer curtain he refused to change no matter how many sleep it ruined. Because his room was already mildly illuminated, he was able to make out his reflection staring back at him from his phone screen. His eyes were puffy, face swollen, hair tousled and his mouth was showing his famous 'boxy' grin. He looked stupid. Why was he smiling? Maybe because he has work tonight. It was no secret how much he loved working in the workshop.
He sighed and nuzzled his pillow, falling asleep with thoughts of soft colors, empty canvas and gentle smiles.
Two hours later, Taehyung was woken up by the sound of Hoseok's loud laughter. He yawned and stretched, before sitting up and checking his phone. He got a text from Jimin that said he missed him too and that they will have to hang out later. He sent a quick reply of yes please and charged his phone before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
When he popped his head on the kitchen doorway, his whole being immediately lit up at the view that welcomed him.
Hoseok's arms were draped around a grinning Yoongi. They were both laughing at Taehyung's brother who appeared to be trying to flip a pancake. The half-cooked pancake ended up on the stovetop instead of the pan.
Namjoonie hyung?
Taehyung gasped and widened his eyes, his attempt to act surprised. He could see Yoongi rolling his eyes from his periphery. He didn't know if that meant he was successful or not.
His brother left his place at the counter and went to Taehyung to give him a very lovely bear hug.
Hi, baby brother. I missed you.
Namjoon pulled away to smile at Taehyung, showing his dimples that Taehyung wasn't lucky enough to have inherited.
I missed you too, hyung. You were gone for so long. Don't ever do that again.
Taehyung pouted, clinging to his brother's arm.
I know. I'm sorry. Hyung's back now.
You two are acting like Namjoon's been gone for more than a year when he was only gone for six months.
Hoseok said, arms still around Yoongi.
Like you didn't miss him too, Hobi. You were here almost everyday whining about how much you want to follow Namjoon and fly to America.
Yoongi said, looking too smug for his own good.
As if you weren't ready to pack your bags and go with me.
Hoseok only cackled when Yoongi glared at him. Taehyung giggled at the light blush coloring Yoongi's cheeks.
Stop making fun of Yoongi hyung, Hobi.
Namjoon chided lightly. He turned to smile at Yoongi. I missed you too, hyung.
Yeah. Joonie missed you a lot, Yoongi hyung. I bet as much as he missed me.
Hoseok said, his voice gentle.
I doubt it.
Yoongi whispered but it was still loud enough for all of them to hear.
Taehyung noticed Hoseok and Namjoon exchanged glances.
Don't doubt it, hyung.
Namjoon said softly. Hoseok removed his arms from Yoongi's shoulders only to intertwine their hands together. Taehyung watched Yoongi's face turn from light pink to tomato red. The playful air that was circulating in the kitchen seconds ago was now replaced with a light fog of tension. He looked from Yoongi, to Hoseok then to Namjoon, feeling a little bit disoriented. He wasn't fully awake yet to make his brain understand what was happening right in front of him. The silence was also not helping. He wasn't sure if he could move or make a sound so he resorted to staying still, eyes flitting from one red face to another slowly reddening one.
When it became obvious that none of the hyungs were brave enough to shatter the rather awkward silence, Taehyung decided to be the better man. So he cleared his throat and calmly extracted himself from his brother. He stretched his arms and acted out a very convincing yawn.
I'm gonna take a shower and prepare my things for my class later.
He said while calmly walking backwards, away from the kitchen and towards the hallway that leads to his free-- his bedroom. Call me when breakfast is ready, okay?
He chuckled, just for good measure, before he calmly sprinted to his bedroom.
He closed his bedroom door as gently as he could, letting out a sigh of relief. He had no idea what happened back there. Okay, maybe that wasn't a hundred percent true. Maybe he knew a little bit. But he still didn't know enough to be able to arrive at any kind of conclusion. There's only one person he could go to if he wanted to understand and help his hyungs with whatever happened earlier. So he jumped on his bed, removed his phone from the charger and dialled the only number he had memorized besides his own. The other line rang three times before his call was picked up.
Jimin.
The name was uttered with awe and reverence. Jimin was the most reliable person Taehyung knew. Jimin helped him solve a lot of problems and he knew a lot of Jimin's friends go to him when they need someone to lean on. He was Taehyung's platonic soulmate, his boulder, his cornerstone.
Jimin also knew everything about everyone. Taehyung had no idea how he did it, but if you want to know something about someone, Jimin is your man. But he doesn't give out information to just anyone and mostly keep them to himself unless it was important, an emergency or if the one asking was his best friend, an honor Taehyung was lucky enough to receive.
Taehyungie!
Jimin's lovely shrill voice pierced Taehyung's ear. What's up, baby? You never call this early. Is there something wrong? Jimin's tone of voice went from cheerful to puzzled to worried in a span of seven seconds.
Everything's fine, Jiminie. Do you want to hang out later?
Sure. I don't have work until five. Where do you wanna go?
Anywhere's fine.
How about here? I'll be alone the whole day. We can eat, cuddle or play video games until you have to go to work.
And where is 'here' exactly?
Taehyung asked, one eyebrow raised. Jimin lives in a one bedroom apartment fifteen minutes away from the dance studio he and Hoseok owned. He didn't have a roommate, as far as Taehyung knew, so there was no need to mention that he will be alone the whole day. And he definitely didn't have any video games lying around his very Jimin apartment because according to Jimin himself, a game console would look very out of place among his many pots of flowers and strings of fairy lights.
Jeonggukie's place, ofcourse!
You mean Seokjinnie hyung's place.
Taehyung corrected since technically it was Seokjin's house, building if Taehyung wanted to be accurate. Jeongguk had been living with Seokjin since he started university because he didn't want to live with strangers. Taehyung thinks it was because Jeongguk is codependent with his hyung. The two may be only half brothers but that doesn't mean they love each other less than full brothers do.
They both live there. Jimin said dismissively. He could practically see Jimin waving his hand exaggeratedly.
Anyway, i'll come over later. Lunchtime?
Sure, sweetie. I'll cook for you.
Taehyung let out a sound of suspicion before he heard someone knock on his door before it opened slightly and showed his big brother peeking through the small gap, looking like a giant teddy bear. Wow, I really missed him. Taehyung smiled at him and waved him over.
Jimin! Someone wants to say hi.
Taehyung grinned up at his brother who was now sitting beside him on the bed. He heard Jimin say a pleased okay before putting the phone on speaker and handing it to his smiling brother.
Hi, Jimin.
There was approximately 15 seconds of silence before Jimin's excited trill startled the brothers.
Namjoonie hyung! You're back! When did you arrive? Why didn't you tell me? I missed you! We should have a welcome back party for you!
Namjoon laughed, shaking his head fondly. I missed you too and i'm sorry for not telling you. I wanted to surprise everyone so I didn't tell you guys about my plan. I only arrived yesterday morning.
So no one knew? Who picked you up at the airport? You should've at least told one of us.
I did. Jin hyung picked me up at the airport.
Okay, good! Let's hang out soon, hyung. Tae and I are gonna plan your party!
But—
No buts! We are going to have a party for you.
Taehyung giggled at his brother's resigned expression. Namjoon wasn't too fond of parties but he also couldn't say no to the younger ones. Especially the sweet, loving Jimin.
Alright, fine.
Namjoon sighed.
I already have so many ideas!
Taehyung decided to save his big brother before Jimin could start listing what those ideas are.
Hyung, you can give me the phone back.
He whispered. Namjoon nodded and smiled gratefully at him.
Okay. You can tell Tae about your ideas. I have to go for now.
Okay! Visit us later, hyung. Ggukie missed you!
Tell him I missed him too. We'll have dinner together soon, all of us. Bye for now, Jiminie.
Namjoon gave back the phone to Taehyung. Breakfast is ready, by the way. We'll wait for you?
Taehyung gave his brother a thumbs up. Namjoon patted his shoulder and he waited until his brother walked out of the room and closed the door before turning the call to normal volume and placing the phone against his ear.
Hey.
Taetae, your brother's back but you still want to hang out with me. What's wrong, baby? And there it was. Another proof that Jimin was his platonic soulmate. He knows Taehyung like nobody else. Taehyung sighed.
Something happened this morning. But it's nothing to worry about. I'm just... confused, I guess?
Taehyung confessed, uncertain on how to explain what was going through his brain.
Ah. My baby needs my wisdom. Okay, tell me everything later and i'll try my best to help you.
I know you will.
Taehyung's stomach growled loudly, reminding him that the hyungs were waiting for him. Jiminie, i have to go.
He said, a bit reluctantly. The hyungs made breakfast and they're waiting for me.
Go eat your breakfast. Is Hobi hyung there too?
Yeah. He came over with Joonie hyung.
Alright. I'll see you later, Taetae!
I'll text you when i'm on my way. Bye!
Bye!
Taehyung turned off the call and sighed. He got up and walked towards the joint kitchen and dining area, hoping he won't become a witness to another confusing and very awkward situation.
…
Breakfast was, to put it mildly, quite entertaining.
Before Taehyung moved in with Yoongi, the older had been living alone. Yoongi's apartment used to be almost bare, only buying furniture and appliances he needed to survive. It wasn't because he was trying out minimalist living or because he didn't have money. Yoongi just happened to put more effort in furnishing and decorating his studio rather than his apartment. Being one of the most sought out music producers, he stays in his studio more. HIs apartment wasn't the usual hang out place for their friend group either, that would be Seokjin's house. There was no need to spend a lot of money in an apartment that barely had people in it.
So when Taehyung moved in, he was astonished at the apartment’s lack of personality. He was also surprised at how empty it looks, making the apartment look bigger than it actually was. There were only a small black couch and a TV set in the living room; a stove, a microwave and a coffee maker on the kitchen counter; and a small circular table in the dining area. Yoongi's room only had a bed, a night stand and a closet. Taehyung's room was completely bare except for an empty bed frame. There were two bathrooms in the apartment, one on each bedroom and ironically they both have bathtubs.
Taehyung gave his new roommate a tight hug after the short tour and promised to make their apartment as homey as possible. And so, he spent the next few months convincing Yoongi to let him redecorate their place, aiming to finish the task before he becomes too busy at his work in the museum.
The first step was to finish furnishing and decorating his room. After that, he took Yoongi to a furniture store to replace the small couch into a bigger and plushier one. Taehyung also managed to convince Yoongi to add a coffee table, a floor lamp, and a carpet. Yoongi surprised him by saying if he wanted to make their apartment look pretty he should hang one of his paintings on one of the walls. Touched, Taehyung spent a couple of weeks painting on a bigger canvas, making sure to use dark colors that would suit Yoongi's taste. He almost burst into tears when Yoongi's eyes widened in amazement upon seeing the abstract painting. Now, the painting was hanging proudly on their living room's accent wall.
Taehyung bought Yoongi a very comfortable, black armchair for his birthday and it instantly became Yoongi's favorite, placing it near the accent wall. Since Taehyung didn't know anything about cooking, he left their kitchen alone. He only bought a blender and cute animal magnets for their fridge. Before Taehyung could get started on the dining area though, he became too busy at the museum and on top of that, he started working as the instructor in Seokjin's then newly opened art workshop.
More than a year later and they still haven't gotten rid of the small circular table in the middle of the dining area. Taehyung kept putting it off since the table was actually kind of cute and it was yellow, the only colorful thing Yoongi owned. Even though it was small, it can still fit the both of them comfortably. And Yoongi seemed to like it. If he wasn't in his room or sitting on his armchair, he'd probably be found on the dining table drinking coffee and writing lyrics on his notebook. Noticing this, Taehyung asked Yoongi if they could keep his yellow table. Yoongi answered with a nonchalant do whatever you want, but his cute smile let Taehyung know that he made the right decision and he had never regretted it once. Until today.
The four of them were sitting around the table, arms barely moving and thighs touching. It was tight and the dishes barely fit on the table, their glasses placed dangerously close to the edge. He glanced at his brother beside him, trying to make himself small, which is a difficult feat for a giant like him and to Hoseok on his other side, humming and eating happily like he wasn't being squished. Taehyung eyed his brother again and moved Namjoon's glass of orange juice away from his dominant hand.
Here, hyung, have some more bacon.
Hoseok said, placing a slice of bacon on Yoongi's plate. Yoongi, who was sitting right across from Taehyung, stuttered out a quiet thanks before stuffing his mouth with it.
Do you want more syrup, hyung?
Namjoon asked, taking the bottle of maple syrup in front of Taehyung's plate. Namjoon's movement halted when he realized there was no place to put the bottle near Yoongi. He cleared his throat before he began moving things one by one to make space. Taehyung watched as his brother knocked Yoongi's mug full of coffee. He fought the urge to raise his eyebrows when he saw how his brother's hand twitched when Yoongi accidentally touched his fingers while they’re attempting to stop the coffee from spilling on the plate of eggs. And he swallowed the urge to say what as he watched Hoseok fret over Yoongi and Namjoon's hands, holding them gently across the table, looking for burns that didn't exist because the coffee wasn't that hot.
Taehyung wanted to say something, maybe ask them what was happening and was Yoongi blushing? Why was Namjoon smiling fondly while Hoseok scolded them for being reckless? And why was Hoseok still cradling their uninjured hands and pouting? But he felt like he shouldn't interrupt whatever was happening. He also felt like he shouldn't be there watching them, so he just resorted to finishing his breakfast as fast as he could. Damn, i can't wait for lunch.

See you soooooon 😘
Taehyung sighed and leaned his head on the window beside him. He was on a bus, on his way to Seokjin's house. His brother and Hoseok were both still in his apartment when he left. The two were acting normal, much to Taehyung's relief. He couldn't handle awkwardness. That’s why he was getting worried because Yoongi had been extra quiet and wasn't looking him in the eye. He should get to the bottom of whatever this was fast. If he went home tonight and Yoongi was still acting weird and the atmosphere was awkward enough for him to break in hives, he would sit him down on that damn yellow table and make him talk. Gently and respectfully of course.
Before he knew it, they were on his stop. He hauled up his backpack and slung his messenger bag across his chest before getting out of the bus, thanking the driver on his way. The building was still a three minute walk away from the bus stop. He was now in the better part of the city, bustling with working people as well as university students. Seokjin owned a five storey building with a gorgeous rooftop. He inherited the building from his late father and had the freedom to turn it into whatever he wanted. Seokjin, kind and generous, used the building not just for him but for all seven of them. They all met in university, studying different forms of art. They all got tangled together along the way, and turned inseparable even after graduating. Taehyung met Jimin first when they were still freshmen. They were roommates at the university dorm and became best friends uncommonly fast. Taehyung met Hoseok through Jimin. Hoseok was Jimin's sunbae, both majoring in dance. Yoongi was his brother's sunbae, who was also Hoseok's friend because they were both members of their university's animal welfare club. Namjoon and Hoseok were both sophomores while Yoongi was a junior. The five of them eventually got together and became close friends. Yoongi then one day brought Seokjin, a senior, to one of their get-togethers. Seokjin was Yoongi and Namjoon's sunbae, the three of them majoring in music. Taehyung thought he'd feel out of place since his friends were in the same departments while he was alone, majoring in fine arts. He thought he'd get left behind but it turned out he didn't need to worry.
The last to come was Jeongguk, who started university, majoring in multimedia arts, after Seokjin and Yoongi graduated. The day before classes started, Seokjin took all of them to dinner and introduced them to the shy and quiet Jeongguk, asking the other four to take care of his half brother like he took care of all of them. Jimin took the request too far and actually fell in love with the boy. Jeongguk didn't stand a chance, only lasting almost a year before giving in to Jimin’s crescent eyes and bell-like laughs. They've been together ever since.
After graduating, Seokjin immediately started working, writing and producing songs for different agencies and quickly gained recognition. The music producer JIN became one of the rising stars in the industry. Not long after, Yoongi followed. SUGA and JIN often worked together and created hits after hits. They became famous enough that Seokjin decided to use the building for his and Yoongi's studios. They chose the fourth floor, sectioning it into three large rooms, reserving one for Namjoon's future studio. A year later, JIN and SUGA introduced another producer in their team: RM. The rest just happened naturally after that. Like it was all meant to be.
Hoseok worked in a dance company for two years. He quit, not without a thorough convincing by Yoongi and his new boyfriend Namjoon, because the said company was mistreating their dancers. Seokjin came to the rescue by offering his help in opening a dance studio for Hoseok where he can teach dance or make dance covers he can post on the internet. Hoseok cried and kept kissing Seokjin's cheeks every time he saw him for weeks. Hoseok invited Jimin to be his partner. Jimin was ecstatic. He quit his two jobs; instructor at the community dance studio and a yoga teacher, and committed his time to their own dance studio. They both started teaching dance classes with Hoseok focusing on hip hop and Jimin on contemporary dance. Hoseok received recognition with his dance covers until he was invited to choreograph a dance routine for an upcoming idol group. That kick started his career as a professional choreographer. And of course he also had a stage name: j-hope. Jimin takes over his classes sometimes if he’s busy.
Taehyung had to go home to Daegu after graduation since his grandmother got sick and wanted at least one of his grandchildren home. He spent a year there and took a job as an art teacher at the elementary school and realized he loved teaching people how to make art. Maybe more if they weren't little people. He spent his free time painting whatever came to his mind and started a habit of sending his paintings to his friends back in Seoul so they wouldn't miss him too much. This resulted in him improving his skills more and developing a style that he loved. He gave Seokjin a painting for his birthday that year. It was an abstract painting of what was supposed to be Seokjin's face and signed it as V
as a joke. Because Seokjin liked making the V sign in every picture he takes. And maybe because Taehyung liked his crooked fingers when he made the V sign. But whatever. Seokjin didn't mention the painting and Taehyung didn't mind. At all.
When he was finally back in Seoul with a new job at the museum waiting for him, he wasn't surprised to see how much Seokjin's building changed with all the popularity they were getting. What surprised him was Seokjin's studio. Because right there, hanging on the wall, in between the framed pictures of his family and the seven of them and above the shelf that housed Seokjin’s awards, was Taehyung’s painting. The letter V at the bottom corner painted in bright purple paint. His heart felt warm, seeing that the painting was deemed worthy of being displayed right there, with Seokjin’s achievements. He did work on it longer than the other paintings. As if that wasn't enough, Seokjin stood beside him and said I haven't thanked you for that, right? Sorry. I've been so busy. It's too late now but thank you. I loved it. And Taehyung, like an idiot, asked how he found out it was him. Seokjin laughed, said I saw the shipping address. I know for sure it wasn't Namjoon. It could only be you, V.
Taehyung stared at the painting for the next 5 minutes or maybe the next hour, he wasn't sure. He realized the bright purple V looked good at the bottom of the canvas. That was why he started using it in every painting he made, whether personal or for commissions. He decided not to change it even when his works were acknowledged by more people, and even when Seokjin started calling him VV. He was now known as the painter V, always bright purple, standing out but at the same time blending seamlessly to whatever painting he created. The letter eye-catching and unique enough to be remembered.
That was the only reason he retained the name V.
Seokjin kept improving his building. Choosing the fifth floor to build his permanent residence so he wouldn't have to go too far from his studio if he wanted a break. Hoseok and Jimin tried to pay Seokjin back for converting the whole second floor for their dance studio after Jimin partnered with Hoseok. Seokjin refused with a ferocious pout. They compromised with the two paying for all the renovations they would do in the future and pitching in for other bills such electricity and things like that. He turned the first floor into a reception area with a lobby, a conference room and a small coffee and pastry shop that sells the best blueberry cupcakes Taehyung had ever tasted, managed by Seokjin's childhood friend, Jaehwan. The only empty floor was the third floor. Taehyung learned that he had reserved it for the only two people in their group who weren't working with them yet.
Taehyung and Jeongguk.
Seokjin had been planning and building his brother's multimedia room. Designed and equipped with everything Jeongguk would need to make his art, video, pictures or films. It was Jeongguk's secret graduation gift, the passcode written in a generic congratulations card, kept in the locked drawer in Seokjin's studio. Taehyung knew because Seokjin had to tell someone when he's excited about something. Taehyung just happened to be there with him, picking out the card, so Seokjin told him.
And then his time came. It was after he sold a painting to one of Seokjin's idol friends. He was treating Seokjin to some patbingsu when all of a sudden he told Taehyung that he wanted to open an art studio and offer some art classes. Kinda like an art workshop. What do you think? Taehyung answered that it might be a good idea since there were many people who wanted to learn how to make art but didn't want to study it in universities. Seokjin answered good because I've already started converting the rest of the third floor. I have one problem, though. Art workshops need artists to teach art. And I only know one artist. Do you think he’ll say yes if I ask him to take over the workshop? Taehyung wasn't proud of it, but it took him a long time before he got what Seokjin was saying. And when he did, he squeezed Seokjin's cheeks and yelled a very happy yes, realizing later that it might have looked like Seokjin proposed and he accepted. But whatever.
And that was how the Art Lab was born. A building dedicated to teaching and creating art. Different art forms on every floor. Art of dessert on the first floor, dance on the second, visual arts on the third, music on the fourth and the art of being a beautiful, wonderful person on the fifth. Jimin's words, not Taehyung's.
Standing in front of the Art Lab now, Taehyung couldn't still believe that the beautiful building was theirs. Well, legally it was Seokjin's and all of them were there, working and doing their passion, because he opened his doors to them. Seokjin received a hefty inheritance, mostly real estates, and he sold almost all of it, only retaining four properties for emergencies. The Art Lab was born straight from Seokjin’s pocket. Yes, they all help in paying the bills now and use their own money to buy whatever was needed in their respective places, but the foundation of every room, the basic furniture and equipment, everything else was a gift from Seokjin. And everytime they so much as implied that the Art Lab was Seokjin's only, they would receive an adorable glare with him correcting them as harshly as he could. The Art Lab is ours! So, yes it was Seokjin's. But it was also theirs.
Taehyung shook his head. Lunch time is no time to get sentimental. He entered the building, smiled at their security guard, Mr. Song and said hello to their receptionist, Jihyun. He strode to the elevator and pushed the button beside it, humming while waiting for it to open. He stepped inside when the door opened and tapped his keycard on the sensor above the elevator buttons to access the fifth floor.
The building was fairly empty. Hoseok cancelled his dance class this morning to spend time with Namjoon. The producers work on their own time and will only be seen on the first floor to use the conference room to meet clients and other important people or visit the coffee shop. Taehyung and Jimin's classes start at six and five in the afternoon, respectively. The coffee shop was the only part of the building bustling with people.
The elevator opened to Seokjin's living room.
Jiminie!
Jimin appeared from the hallway leading to the dining area, smiling widely and wearing a cute yellow apron Taehyung had not seen before. Jimin came tumbling towards him, engulfing him in a tight hug. Taehyung chuckled.
Why are you so happy, Jiminie? The last time you've seen me was yesterday morning.
So?
Jimin pulled back, barely giving Taehyung time to change into house slippers before dragging him to the large sectional couch so he could drop his backpack and messenger bag.
Why do you have a backpack?
Jimin said, taking the bag from him to place it on the couch.
I brought a change of clothes. Can't go to class looking like this.
He gestured to his oversized white shirt, oversized olive green jacket and oversized sweatpants.
Why not? You're the teacher, you can wear whatever you want.
I teach art, I have to look artistic.
You're right, Mr. Artist. Let's eat lunch.
Jimin chirped and dragged Taehyung again by his hand.
Did you really cook?
Taehyung trained his narrowed gaze at Jimin’s back, now smelling something good coming from the kitchen.
Of course! Didn't you notice my apron?
Speaking of aprons. Where did you get that, by the way? You don't own any aprons and Seokjin hyung only has two and the other one was reserved for Jeongguk.
Taehyung walked straight to the stove to check what Jimin was apparently cooking. Kimchi Jjigae.
And I know Jeongguk's apron was blue and hyung's was pink.
Taehyung pointed out.
Oh, this is new. Jin hyung bought it for me since I kept using his apron.
Jimin gently pushed Taehyung aside to stir the pot. Taehyung raised an eyebrow at Jimin.
Hyung, bought you an apron?
Yeah. I was so happy when he gave it to me. I felt like he's finally welcomed me into his home.
Jimin smiled softly, turning off the stove and moving to get bowls from the cupboards, filling them with rice.
What do you mean? Hyung loves you. Of course he'll welcome you here.
Taehyung moved to get two glasses, two extra bowls, two pairs of chopsticks and two spoons. Don't you practically live here, already?
Jimin placed the bowls of rice and the other utensils Taehyung prepared on a tray, picked it up and went towards the adjacent dining area, Taehyung following close behind.
Hyung's house is always open for all of us.
He placed the tray on the table. We've all spent days staying here. I'm different. I'm dating his baby brother.
Jimin paused in his task of setting up the table. Water or juice?
Coke, please.
Jimin padded back to the kitchen. Taehyung followed him.
Hyung already loves you even before you started defiling his baby brother.
Jimin turned around swiftly to smack Taehyung’s arm. Taehyung chuckled, avoiding Jimin's attack.
Well, it's true. You're not just his brother's boyfriend. You're also one of his best friends. Hyung loves you. He loves all of us.
It was true. This whole building was the proof. He heard Jimin sigh before stopping in front of the T door fridge and taking out a can of coke and a pitcher of fresh orange juice, handing both to Taehyung before walking to the stove to pick up the pot of the Jjigae.
I know. But you know how Ggukie loves and looks up to Jin hyung. I don't know if it's bad, but I wanted to be accepted by Jin hyung more than their parents.
Taehyung chortled, following Jimin back to the dining room again.
That is bad, Jiminie. Shouldn't you be getting worked up about your boyfriend's parents instead of his brother, who’s already your friend?
Taehyung asked, putting the pitcher and the coke down before taking his seat on the chair that matched the customized wooden, rectangular dining table, designed to fit all seven of them.
I know.
Jimin groaned, placing the pot on the trivet.
Stop worrying too much. Hyung loves you. You know that, right?
Taehyung took his spoon to scoop some Jjigae in his bowl. His hand paused midway when he realized Jimin was quiet. He looked up at his friend with an inquisitive gaze.
Right?
He insisted.
Jimin blinked before he smiled and nodded his head. Yeah.
Jimin clapped his hand once. Well, then let's eat! I'm hungry.
Taehyung put his best friend's reaction in the corner of his mind, promising to keep an eye on him. If something was bothering him, he'll tell Taehyung eventually. He just needed to wait. For now, they'll enjoy their lunch and their time together.
…
So, what is it that you need my wisdom for?
They just finished cleaning the kitchen and the dining table. The lunch was delicious. Taehyung took one bite of the Jjigae and he just knew it wasn't Jimin's cooking. Taehyung didn't stop pestering Jimin until he confessed that it was indeed Seokjin's cooking that he prepared that morning before he went down to his studio. They were both sitting on the couch now, the TV showing a show that served more as a white noise than a source of entertainment. Taehyung sighed, wondering how he should start.
It's about Namjoon hyung.
He paused, thinking if he should just blurt out what was on his mind and leave it to Jimin to understand him through his soulmate powers.
Jimin hummed, gentle eyes focused on Taehyung, silently asking him to continue.
And Hobi hyung. And... Yoongi hyung.
Taehyung said quietly. He watched Jimin bob his head once, something akin to understanding flashing in his eyes. He activated his soulmate powers.
Okay.
Jimin said slowly. Tell me what happened.
I... I’m not sure. We had breakfast this morning. All of us. And.. I watched them interact. Yoongi hyung blushed.
Taehyung elaborated, his voice hushed like he was telling Jimin a secret.
Jimin scooted closer to him and Taehyung wasted no time initiating a cuddle, facing Jimin's side and hugging his waist. Jimin raised his hand to smooth down Taehyung's hair, waiting for him to continue.
Hobi hyung and Joonie hyung were both fussing over Yoongi hyung. They made him blush. Yoongi hyung never blush, Chim.
Did you think it was bad?
Yoongi hyung blushing?
Yeah.
Of course not! He looked cute.
What about your hyung and Hobi hyung making him blush?
Is that what happened? They were making him blush?
I don't think it's bad either.
That's good, Taetae.
He thought back to what happened that morning. Hoseok's arm around Yoongi's shoulder, Namjoon's soft 'I missed you too, hyung', fond glances, stares, brushing of fingers and red cheeks. So much blushing and staring. Holy crap. He started backtracking, focusing on the three and noting details he missed before. Like how when Namjoon was gone, Yoongi and Hoseok were always together, either just the two of them or with Namjoon on the phone. How Yoongi would pop in his room with Namjoon's face on a video call. Or how Namjoon would ask him about Yoongi out of the blue. How he would come home after his art workshop classes finding Hoseok and Yoongi preparing dinner, laughing together. He even went way back. How those three were practically inseparable during their college days. Inviting the rest of them to places they discovered together. Always knowing where the other went. Taehyung thought that besides Seokjin, it made sense that Yoongi was closest to the two because Namjoon was taking the same major and he was in the same club with Hoseok. But now…
Chim.
He squawked, eyes widening in surprise with his current discovery. Or more accurately, his late realization.
You finally noticed?
Jimin asked, fingers carding in his hair.
Fuck.
Taehyung breathed. Jimin chuckled lightly then turned to his side to face Taehyung.
You okay? You almost never curse.
Jimin asked gently. Taehyung furrowed his brows but nodded his head. He curses when he’s overwhelmed. And he’s a little overwhelmed right now. It had been going on for years. How did he miss those subtle hints?
Yeah, I'm fine.
He assured him.
But are you alright? With this? With the possibility of the three of them... being together?
Jimin inquired carefully, gaze focused on his face.
Do you really think Joonie hyung and Hobi hyung like Yoongi hyung? Like like him?
Actually, I think it's more than that.
Jimin mused and Taehyung gasped.
You think they love him?
Taehyung didn't know why he was whisper-shouting.
I've spent enough times listening to Hobi hyung talk about Yoongi hyung the way he talks about your brother.
Jimin chuckled under his breath.
What about my hyung?
Joonie hyung is even more obvious than Hobi hyung. You just have to know what to look for.
Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows at that. He didn't know a thing. He felt like a bad brother.
It's not your fault you only noticed now, you know.
Jimin added and of course he could read Taehyung's thoughts. I'm just good at noticing things, you know that.
He silently agreed. Jimin was the most observant person Taehyung knew, a trait he both loved and feared.
And besides I wasn't a hundred percent sure until Hobi hyung kinda confessed to me.
He did?
Yeah. He was a little drunk and very exhausted. I think he needed to get it off his chest. He made me promise not to tell anyone. And I didn't tell you. You figured it out yourself.
Taehyung agreed. Jimin never breaks promises.
Do you think I should talk to Joonie hyung?
Jimin hummed at that, thinking.
You should answer my question first before we think about you talking to your hyung.
What question?
Will you be okay if the three of them pursue a relationship together?
Jimin asked, not hesitating like earlier.
Taehyung looked down, mulling over Jimin's question carefully. He loves his brother and Hoseok and Yoongi. He wants them to be happy. But what did he think about all three of them being happy together? His brother dating both Hoseok and Yoongi? Him potentially having two brothers-in-law in the future? He tried to imagine all three of them together as boyfriends. His brother's gentle nature, Hoseok's radiant aura and Yoongi's soft but intimidating presence. They look so freaking perfect. Like a complete puzzle. He shrieks in excitement, startling Jimin.
Of course, i'm okay with it, Chim! Why would you even ask that?
Taehyung exclaimed, face splitting in his wide smile.
Polyamorous relationships aren't typical and it can be a sensitive subject so I wanted to break it to you gently since you're a baby. My baby Taetae.
Jimin croons, smiling widely now too. Probably relieved that the situation didn't go south.
I just want them happy, Chim. And if they need three people to complete their relationship and make them happy then how can I be opposed to that?
If only they'll be brave enough to actually talk about it with each other then their relationship will be complete faster.
Jimin sighed in mock annoyance, shifting so he could lay his head on Taehyung's shoulder.
Do you think I should talk to Joonie hyung? Do you think they’re not moving forward because he thinks I’ll judge him for it?
Namjoon hyung knows you love him. And he thinks the best of people so I bet that thought didn't even cross his mind.
Then why?
Yoongi hyung.
Jimin said, voice low and even.
Do you think Yoongi hyung doesn't feel the same?
Taehyung frowned. But Yoongi hyung blushed. And he looked shy at their attention. And the way he smiles when he’s with them is different.
It's not that. Well... I don't know actually. Hobi hyung said he thinks Yoongi hyung might feel the same way. But... you know Yoongi hyung. He's hard to read.
A solemn silence fell over them. Taehyung wished he could help. He wanted to help. His brother and Hoseok were happy together. He knew that. But after knowing the possibility of them only being a hundred percent complete if Yoongi opens his heart to them, he couldn't help but wish he could do something. He thought about Yoongi. His quiet but very kind roommate who deserved all the happiness in the world. Always confident and nonchalant but was shy and blushed just this morning. He wouldn't even meet Taehyung’s eyes before he left, looking anywhere but him, keeping distance from his brother and his boyfriend. That was when realization struck him. He gasped, again, and straightened, dislodging Jimin's head on his shoulder.
Jiminie! Do you think Yoongi hyung thinks I won't approve?
Why do you think that?
This morning Hobi hyung and Joonie hyung were acting normal towards me but Yoongi hyung avoided me.
Hmmm. It's possible. Yoongi hyung knows you look up to him. Maybe he was afraid you'd be disappointed? Like what I said earlier, poly relationships aren't common.
Jimin sighed. Taehyung slumped back down on the couch taking Jimin with him. Jimin let Taehyung hug him for comfort.
I don't know if I should talk to any of them about this. Just to tell them I support them.
You can talk to Hobi hyung. He doesn't shy away from things like this. I'm sure he'll be very happy to know you support them. You know your hyung better than I do, so you decide when to talk to him. Yoongi hyung however,
Jimin nestled his head on the crook of Taehyung's shoulder. I don't know. I can't read him like I can read the rest of you. But someone else can. You should ask him for advice.
Right. There's only one person who was brave enough to break down Yoongi's walls, back when Yoongi never showed his softer side. He came in the form of broad shoulders and squeaky laugh.
Kim Seokjin.
As if summoned by the mere thought of his name, the elevator opened with a soft ping and there came striding towards them, in an oversized blue sweater with a white whale in the center; faded denim pants; thick black hair that reached his neck; plush lips; brown eyes trained on the floor; soft voice humming what was probably a new song he was working on.
Kim Seokjin.
Taehyung's neck strained from twisting it to stare at Seokjin's approaching figure.
Hi, hyung!
Taehyung greeted cheerfully. Seokjin startled slightly, looking up at the couch. Taehyung grinned at him. Seokjin raised an eyebrow, smiling.
I thought I was supposed to fetch you later? How come you're here early?
Seokjin asked.
I had lunch with Jiminie.
Seokjin sat down beside Jimin, patting Jimin's head before slouching and straightening his legs. Did you eat the Jjigae I made?
He asked, closing his eyes.
Yeah, hyung. I reheated it, don't worry.
Jimin answered.
Good, good.
Seokjin sighed and patted Jimin's head again before crossing his arms. Taehyung frowned, feeling a bit neglected. I should get a pat on the head too. He stood up and sat on Seokjin's opposite side, ignoring Jimin's questioning look.
You tired, hyung?
Taehyung tugged on Seokjin's sleeve to get his attention.
Yeah. Still working on the soundtrack for that new drama. I can't get it right.
Seokjin sighed.
I'm sure you'll get it right soon. You've written and produced like thirty soundtracks before this. You're not famous for nothing.
Taehyung encouraged him.
Seokjin snorted. I'm not famous.
Yes, you are. All your songs always top the charts. You're good, hyung. One of the best.
Taehyung nodded, grabbing Seokjin's forearms. Seokjin chuckled and patted his head.
Alright, VV. Thank you.
Taehyung beamed.
I'm just gonna rest my eyes a bit.
Seokjin said.
Hyung, I still have to treat you. Drive me home after my class and I will treat you to dinner.
Okay. What time will you finish? Nine?
Eight, hyung. Art and Dance evening classes are only two hours long, you always forget.
He poked Seokjin’s cheek. Seokjin swatted his hand blindly. Taehyung giggled.
Alright. Drop by the studio after your class.
Okay.
Taehyung noticed Jimin staring at him and smiling. He tilted his head as if to ask what. Jimin shook his head, nothing.
Come on, Taetae. Let's not disturb hyung's rest.
Jimin stood up and pulled Taehyung's hand that was still holding Seokjin's forearm loosely. Oh. He let go and stood up, trailing after Jimin.
…
The door to Taehyung's workshop opened with a soft click of the key.
Being the only other room on the floor, the workshop was enormous with tall windows, bright fluorescent lights and clean white walls. There were a long line of cabinets, containers and shelves where they stored their art materials and a small counter with a sink at the back of the room. There were also long tables arranged to form a hollow square, eight chairs positioned around it in the middle of the huge space. Four easels were perched facing the walls, two easels on either side of the room. Eight rolling carts full of art materials were lined neatly on one corner and Taehyung's small table was placed at the opposite corner, facing the rest of the room. There was a mirror wall, half the size of the door, placed in the middle of the wall opposite the windows. Just beside his small table was a pair of french doors, currently covered with grey curtains, that led to his office-slash-studio.
He was early for his class. Jimin and him spent the rest of the afternoon in Jungkook's room talking about nothing in particular. Jimin got ready for his evening class at around 4:30. Taehyung thought about staying there until he had to go to his own class but after checking if Seokjin was still napping on the couch and finding that he already went back to his studio, he decided to go down to the workshop and just wait there. He changed into his work clothes; black slacks, soft brown button down, long sleeved shirt, his trusty glasses, black cardigan, his expensive loafers and to finish the look, his favorite beret that he wore to every class. Jeongguk arrived just when they were about to leave, looking like he was ready to lie down right there at the entryway and sleep. Taehyung cooed at the youngest, petting him on the head while Jeongguk pouted and mumbled stop it, Taetae hyung, i’m stronger than all of you. Jimin just cackled at the two of them and kissed Jeongguk sweetly on the cheek, ordering him to rest while he’s gone before he left the house with Taehyung.
He switched the lights on and walked towards his office, unlocking it with a key. He moved the curtains to the sides and left the door wide open, switching the lights on his studio this time, sighing as he reached his desk and placed his messenger bag on top of it. He shrugged his cardigan off and draped it at the back of his desk chair before he plopped ungracefully on it. His desk was placed directly in front of the french doors. There was a small bathroom for him so he didn't have to go out of his office to use the third floor bathroom. On one side of his office-slash-studio was a floor to ceiling window overlooking the painting area. His easel stood there beside the window, an unfinished painting resting upon it, waiting for him.
He collected the papers strewn across his desks, sketches of the students from last night's class, and stacked it neatly on one side. He had two groups of students, each group consisting of people from the ages of 20 to 40, male and female, busy in the morning and could only attend classes at night. Eight people, four in each group. He loved spending time with his students, teaching them what he knew and seeing their faces lit up in every finished work. He loved listening to their stories too. People were like art. They look different, tell different stories but all beautiful to the right eyes.
One of his students was a housewife to a rich man who was always away for work and only came home near midnight. She was the best at charcoal drawings. There was the college boy, the youngest in his class, who was forced to take up a major he didn't want. Taehyung loved watching the boy come alive with every stroke of a brush. It broke Taehyung's heart too, because the boy was so good at what he loved. And there was a girl the same age as Taehyung who took up a part time job to be able to pay for his classes because she saw one of Taehyung's paintings somewhere and decided she wanted to paint too. All of his students were all from different backgrounds but all were fascinated and in love with art. He couldn't believe how lucky he is. He had the best students.
His train of thought was interrupted by the sound of a door opening. He checked his wristwatch. It was only 5:15, too early for any of his students to arrive. A smile graced his face when he heard the voice of his visitor.
VV?
In here, hyung!
He yelled, hastily removing the pencils and sketch pad from the desk and putting them in a random drawer. He looked around his office and sighed at the disarray. His rolling cart was almost empty, it's contents scattered around his studio. There were tube paints on the floor and brushes and palette covered in dried paint on top of the low cabinets. The floor mat on the painting area was dotted with colorful paint splatters. A painting he did for a commission was leaning on the side while it dried instead of being placed on the drying rack that Seokjin had kindly given him. There were sketches and watercolor paintings taped on the wall in a sporadic manner. His studio wasn't dirty but it was definitely a mess. Seokjin will surely scold him.
Seokjin appeared on his french door, still looking tired but more awake than earlier.
What's up, hyung?
Taehyung greeted him, standing up to retrive the stool by his easel and place it in front of his desk. He sat on it and gestured for Seokjin to take his desk chair. Seokjin hesitated so Taehyung stood up again to guide him to the comfortable chair, pushing down on his shoulders gently until he gave up and sat down.
What brings the big boss here in my humble studio?
Taehyung asked, sitting back down on the stool. Seokjin rolled his eyes and with his elbow on the table and his chin resting on his hand, he looked around and studied Taehyung's work space. Taehyung watched with amusement as Seokjin's brows furrowed and his lips pressed together. He grinned when Seokjin's eyes flitted back to him.
Taehyung-ah, when was the last time you cleaned your studio?
Seokjin asked, leaning back on the chair and looking at him with a judgemental stare.
It's clean, hyung! I know it's not as tidy as your studio but it's clean. I'm not gross.
Taehyung crossed his arms in defiance. Seokjin just hummed still looking at Taehyung with his squinting chocolate brown eyes. Taehyung huffed.
It's how I work, okay?
Taehyung said and he knew he was pouting but he couldn't help it.
Fine. But at least pick up the things on the floor so you wouldn't trip and hurt yourself.
Okay, hyung.
He leaned forward and rested his hands on the desk, tracing the veins on the wooden surface. Are you done working? Did you finish the soundtrack?
Seokjin smiled and shook his head. Not yet. But i'm getting there.
I told you, hyung.
Taehyung smiled. So when will you let me hear it?
Seokjin chuckled at that. Not yet. There's still parts I'm undecided about. I think i'm gonna ask Yoongi and your brother about it.
At the mention of Yoongi and his brother, Taehyung remembered his plan on telling Seokjin about his current dilemma. He spent a few seconds contemplating if he should tell him now before taking a deep breath and thinking well, he's here now. Might as well make use of the time.
Hyung, I need your help.
Taehyung confessed, voice low and troubled.
Seokjin looked slightly surprised by Taehyung's sudden change of tone but his wide eyes turned to concerned ones when Taehyung continued.
I don't know what to do. I-I dont know if you already know about it, because i've only noticed this morning. But now that i know, i don't want anything more than for it to happen. B-but i think. I think he thinks I don't approve. And he didn't look me in the eye this morning. But I-
Taehyung-ah, slow down.
Seokjin interrupted him gently, leaning towards him, his hands now on top of Taehyung's clenched fists.
Tell hyung what happened.
Taehyung took a deep breath and tried again, slower this time.
Well. Hyung and Hobi hyung came over this morning. We had breakfast. And... I noticed something. About the two of them. And Yoongi hyung.
Ah.
Seokjin muttered under his breath, tapping Taehyung's fists comfortingly.
Do you already know about it? Am I the last one to notice?
I don't think Ggukie noticed anything but Jimin's his boyfriend. And you know Jimin. He will protect a secret from anyone except Jeonggukie.
Which was an accepted universal knowledge among them.
But Joonie hyung is my brother and Yoongi hyung is my roommate. I should’ve noticed.
They were good at hiding it. But Namjoon was away for six months and I guess they missed each other too much. It made it harder for them to hide their affection.
Jimin knew even before Hobi hyung talked to him.
That's okay, Taehyung. Not everyone's as observant as Jimin.
You noticed them too, hyung.
I'm the hyung. You guys come to me for help and I look after all of you.
There was a pause before Seokjin's kind voice asked him the question that seemed the most important.
Is it okay for you? Your brother and his boyfriend dating your roommate?
Of course!
Taehyung blared. Jimin asked me the same thing. Why wouldn't it be okay? As long as they love each other then why would I ever complain?
It's not because we think you're a bad person, Tae. We know what happened with your ex. And ever since then you've been so vocal about hating people who can't stick to one person.
Taehyung paused, lips forming an O in the face of another realization. Right. Why didn't I think of that.
And that's not bad. We know where you're coming from. So it's understandable how this type of relationship might appear unfavorable to you. I'm glad you're supportive, though. Very glad.
He understood now why Jimin and Seokjin needed to clarify what he thought about the possible three-way relationship. Although, Jimin's reasoning earlier was because the relationship wasn't common and that he was a baby. He mentally scoffed. I'm not a baby. But Seokjin's reason was because he remembered how he was hurt by his stupid ex and he understood how that might influence his view on relationships. The thought made him feel warm inside. Which is stupid because there's nothing warm about that. But Seokjin just has that effect. To everyone. Not just him.
It's not the same, hyung. He slept with someone while we're in a monogamous relationship. That’s cheating. The three of them are in love with each other. At Least that's what Jimin thinks.
Seokjin squeezed Taehyung's hands which were now turned palms up and holding on to the older's hands. Huh. When did that happen? Seokjin leaned back on the chair, taking his hands with him and crossing his arms on his chest, unintentionally flexing his biceps. A habit that always made him look sexier than he already is. Objectively speaking, of course. Taehyung's hands suddenly felt cold. He clenched them into tight fists.
They might be. But I do know that they want to suck each other’s—
Hyung!
Faces. What did you think I was gonna say?
Ugh. Hyung, you're gross. That's my brother.
Seokjin laughed at Taehyung's disgusted face. Taehyung laughed with him. He was glad Seokjin was making jokes to make him feel at ease.
What were you so worried about if you didn't mind them being together?
Seokjin asked
Yoongi hyung-
Taehyung stopped, second guessing himself because he suddenly remembered Seokjin was Yoongi's best friend. Would Seokjin disapprove of him putting his nose on someone else's business? But he was just confused and worried. Yoongi avoided him and he hated that kind of awkwardness and uncertainty especially with people he loves.
Ah. Yoonie.
Seokjin sighed. You said the two came over for breakfast? Did he act weird around you?
Only after the incident at the kitchen. He was normal before that, even after his dinner with hyung last.
So the friendly dinner was with Joonie?
Taehyung nodded.
He didn't tell me that.
Seokjin muttered. What happened in the kitchen?
Taehyung recounted what happened in the kitchen. Making sure to add the details that made him realize that there was something going on. The smiles, the soft confession of how much they missed each other and the awkwardness that followed.
You hate it when it gets awkward. Did it get worse after that?
Taehyung smiled at Seokjin's comment before he continued.
Yeah. You know how our table was so small, right? Somehow we managed to fit ourselves on that. Joonie and Hobi hyung were acting like nothing weird happened but Yoongi hyung was very quiet. The two were doting on Yoongi hyung and he blushed red the whole time. Hyung, do you have any idea how Yoongi hyung looked when he blushed?
Adorable.
Really adorable! But he didn't look me in the eye once. Even when I left the apartment. I'm afraid when I come home tonight he'll still avoid me or worse, he’ll stay in his studio and won’t come home at all. You know how much I don't like that, hyung.
I know. You see, Taehyung, Yoongi loves you. You're like a little brother to him. He took it upon himself to take care of you when you started living with him. Yoongi might not care about what other people think of him but he cares about what we think.
Seokjin divulged, his eyes fixed on the painting left leaning on the wall to dry.
Yoongi may also not look like it, but he's a very traditional guy so being in love with two guys at the same time was a shock to him. I was happy when he finally came to terms with it.
Seokjin's gentle eyes flitted back to Taehyung.
I think he's afraid you'll look at him differently. He's the one joining your brother's established relationship.
But I won't do that, hyung! If they really love each other, they should go for it. Why is he worried about what i think?
He loves you. All three of them do.
I love them too.
Tell Yoongi that. Talk to him. But he'll try to avoid you without making it look like he's doing it and he hates the feelings talk.
I know. Help me, hyung.
Taehyung pleaded with his wide, puppy eyes, leaning closer to Seokjin.
Seokjin hummed, drumming his fingers on the table. Okay. Visit me in my studio after your class.
He tapped the tip of Taehyung's nose with the pad of his forefinger before standing up and shuffling towards the door. Taehyung blinked, scrunching his tingling nose. His hand smells nice.
I'll see you later.
Taehyung stood up and trailed after Seokjin who was already at the door of the workshop. Hyung, thank you.
He stopped in front of Seokjin, smiling widely.
Seokjin squeezed his cheek and crooned. You're welcome, VV. Hyung's always here for you.
Taehyung groaned and swatted Seokjin's hand away. Seokjin laughed, turning to face the door and twisted the doorknob. Before he disappeared, he gave Taehyung one final look over his shoulder, uttered It'll be fine. You’re the kind of person who makes everyone feel loved and welcomed and left, closing the door behind him.
Taehyung turned on his feet and went to his small table at the corner, took the basket of fake fruits on top of it, picked up a stool and traipsed to the center of the long tables. He placed the stool in the middle and placed the basket on top, angling it and fixing the fruits until he was satisfied. They were going to paint still life tonight.
He walked back to his office, halting when he caught a glimpse of his face on the mirror wall. His cheeks were red. He placed his hand on the cheek Seokjin pinched, patting it lightly. Must be because he pinched me. He continued preparing for his class, forgetting that Seokjin only lightly pinched a cheek but both were tinged a very pretty red.
…
Taehyung leaned on the elevator wall behind him, adjusting the strap of his messenger bag. The evening class went well. All of his students' output were good. He loved watching their progress, every stroke of their brush getting more confident with every class.
The elevator doors opened on the silent and dimly lit fourth floor hallway. Taehyung didn't know why the producers loved the dark, but they certainly did. He walked towards the studio in the middle. The three studios looked identical on the outside, sleek black doors with their stage name posted on it as the only difference.
He keyed in Seokjin's code and peeked inside. Seokjin's back was to him. He was facing his computer screens with his noise cancelling headphones placed snugly on his head. He debated going in or waiting until Seokjin took a break and noticed him waiting there. He knew no one was allowed to enter the studios without asking the producers first, but Seokjin was more okay with random visits than the other two. He was stuck there, unsure of what to do, watching Seokjin's back and how his arms move as he clicked or pressed something every now and then. It was therapeutic in a way, watching him work in silence.
Are you just gonna stand there the whole night?
Taehyung jolted in surprise. Seokjin swiveled his chair and faced him. He removed his headphones, settling it around his neck and smiled, his cheeks puffing out.
Hey.
Taehyung cleared his throat. Hi, hyung. How did you know I was here?
I saw your reflection on the monitor. Come in.
He entered, the carpeted floor absorbing the sounds of his footsteps. The studio was of course, soundproof but surprisingly dimly lit, with three large monitors on the table, the other equipment surrounding it. His guitar and keyboard are placed on one side and a shelf on the other. There was a mini fridge and pastel pink loveseat beside the door. The walls are painted sky blue, Seokjin's favorite color, with soft pink LED strip lights on the ceiling. Seokjin took the smallest studio, insisting he didn't need a large space to work. But as small as it was, it was definitely the prettiest. The soft colors contrasting with the lingering darkness inside and outside, the soft grey carpet and the smell of lavender from Seokjin's air purifier bring Taehyung peace. He took a quick glance at his painting. The colors he used, bright blue, purple and pink made it look like it really belonged there. Taehyung smiled softly. He sat down on the love seat and put down his bags.
How was class?
It went great. Did still life tonight. They're getting better.
That's good. Are you tired?
Hmmm. Not really.
Seokjin nodded, swiveled his chair and faced the monitors again. Taehyung watched as Seokjin's fingers flitted over the many buttons in front of him before removing his headphones. He cracked his knuckles then his neck and stood up.
Leave your bags here.
Seokjin said, walking towards the door.
We're leaving?
Taehyung asked, standing up and trailing after Seokjin.
We're going to barge in Yoonie's studio so you two can talk.
Oh. Right now?
Yes. The sooner the better. Hopefully after this Yoonie’s finally going to go on an official date with those two. I'm tired of their sexual tension always stinking up the air when they're together.
Taehyung chuckled. He was a bit glad he was too oblivious to notice their sexual tension. At least he wouldn’t have to suffer watching his brother pine and thirst over someone again. Once was enough. They stopped in front of Yoongi's door. Seokjin smiled at him reassuringly. Taehyung nodded and took a deep breath before Seokjin opened Yoongi's door after pressing the passcode.
Yoonie, we're coming in.
Seokjin called and walked inside, Taehyung following behind him. Yoongi's studio was bigger, and ironically, had the best lighting. It was brightly lit and also soundproof with wooden floors and white walls. There was a black leather couch against a wooden paneled door. The layout was similar to Seokjin's. The only difference was all the equipment and furnitures are black in color and an extension was built for the recording area where they record vocals. Yoongi started making rap songs on the side, planning to release it someday under a different stage name.
Yoongi was not wearing his headphones. He was sitting in front of his keyboard, fingers hovering above the keys. Taehyung watched Yoongi's bored expression turn into mild surprise when they made eye contact. Yoongi quickly averted his gaze, looking at Seokjin instead.
H-hey. What are you guys doing here?
Yoongi stuttered, standing up from his chair.
Yoongi-ah, it's time you make your dreams come true.
Huh?
Yoongi’s brows furrowed in trepidation.
Taehyung here has something to tell you.
Seokjin moved aside so Yoongi and Taehyung were standing facing each other. Seokjin gave them both a squeeze on the shoulder and turned to leave.
W-where are you going, hyung.
Yoongi called after Seokjin.
My studio. Still have to finish work.
Seokjin gave Taehyung an encouraging nod a thumbs up. He returned it with a thumbs up of his own, hands sweaty with nerves. The door closed behind Seokjin, trapping the two of them inside. He normally didn't mind the feelings talk. He loved talking about his feelings and sorting things out. But Yoongi doesn't. In fact, he avoided the feelings talk as much as he could.
How's your day, hyung?
He asked tentatively.
It was okay. How was class?
Good.
Taehyung groaned internally, already hating the awkwardness that started to surround them.
Taehyung,
Yoongi sighed. I'm sorry.
What?
I know what you might have seen this morning. I understand if you're disgusted with me now.
What? No-
But don’t hate them. It was all me. I don’t know when it started or how.
Hyung, why are you-
It just happened. I swear i'm not gonna ruin what they have.
Hyung, stop! What are you talking about?
I'm in love with your brother and his boyfriend.
Yoongi winced at his confession. He sighed heavily and plodded towards the leather couch, sitting down with his elbows on his knees and face on his hands. Taehyung was quick to sit beside him and wrap his arms around the older.
Isn’t that wonderful, hyung?
Taehyung whispered.
What?
Yoongi's voice was muffled by his hands.
They love you too, don't they?
He felt the older sag against his embrace.
I don't want you to hate me.
Why would I hate you, hyung?
Because-
Taehyung didn't wait for Yoongi to finish his sentence.
I don't hate you. Hyung, I know I said I hated people like my ex, but you’re not like him. You're far from him. He’s a cheater and a jerk. You’re just in love with two people at the same time and that shows how big your heart is. I will never hate you for that.
He heard Yoongi sniffle. He stayed quiet after that, giving Yoongi enough time to gather himself.
Thank you, kiddo.
Taehyung smiled. Anytime, Yoongi hyung.
He released Yoongi from his hug and they smiled at each other.
So when will you go out on a date with Hyung and Hobi hyung?
Taehyung laughed when Yoongi closed his eyes and groaned.
Have you uhm.. talked to Hobi or Namjoon about this?
No. I wanted to talk to you first.
Yoongi nodded.
I don't think I need to talk to them now that you know i'm perfectly okay with both you and Hobi hyung dating my brother.
Taehyung smiled at the blush forming on Yoongi's cheeks. Hyung, you should ask them out on a date as soon as possible. You look cute when you blush. They should make you blush more.
You are going to be insufferable about this, aren't you?
Of course.
Yoongi chuckled and it filled Taehyung's heart with unadulterated joy. He was so happy for his brother who was loved by two amazing people. He can't wait for them to date officially and freely show their love.
Did Seokjin hyung advise you to talk to me tonight?
I was already planning on talking to you but I asked hyung for help. I guess his idea of helping was to trap us in a room together so we will be forced to talk.
And it worked. Hyung always knows the best way to help us.
Yoongi said with a small smile on his lips. Taehyung nodded, silently agreeing. Seokjin was like Jimin in a lot of ways. Both are attentive and observant. Sweet and kind with the biggest of hearts that love so much. The only difference lies in how they show it. Jimin's love was loud, showing it with physical affections and words. While Seokjin's love was quiet, showing it with actions and gifts. Taehyung couldn’t imagine how their little group of friends would fare without those two.
I'm going to treat Seokjin hyung to dinner. Come with us?
Taehyung offered.
Are you treating me too?
Yoongi grinned.
Taehyung groaned. Fiiiine.
Alright, then. Let’s go get hyungie.
…
I won't ask questions, just tell me if it went well or not.
Seokjin asked the moment they entered his studio. He was sitting crossed leg on his swivel chair, facing the door. He looked like he was waiting for them.
I wouldn't be here if it didn't go well, hyung.
Yoongi rolled his eyes but shot Seokjin a grateful smile.
Right. You would be in your car, driving somewhere far away from here if your talk went south.
Whatever.
Yoongi crouched down in front of Seokjin's mini fridge and opened it, scanning what's inside. Seokjin ignored him.
Hyung, don't take anything. We're going to dinner, remember?
Taehyung reminded Yoongi. I'm bringing Yoongi hyung with us. Is it okay?
He asked, turning to Seokjin.
Of course.
Yoongi opened a cold canned coffee and took a sip, grimacing at the taste. Why do you have this? It's disgusting.
And yet, you still steal them from my fridge everyday.
Seokjin deadpanned.
Let's go, hyungs. I'm hungry.
Taehyung whined, pulling on Seokjin's wrists.
Alright, VV.
Seokjin stood up and was suddenly in Taehyung's space. He gasped lightly, the smell of Seokjin's fabric conditioner invading his nose, and took a step back.
Come on, Yoonie. The baby's hungry.
Seokjin teased, grabbing his phone and wallet from the table.
I'm not a baby.
Taehyung grumbled like a toddler. Yoongi chuckled and adjusted his black jacket over his white shirt.
Yes, you are. My VV.
Seokjin cooed and patted his head gently as he passed him on his way out.
You look cute when you blush too, kiddo.
Yoongi landed a light slap on Taehyung's back. Get your bags, don't keep him waiting.
Taehyung ignored the comment but glared at Yoongi's back. He took his bags from the loveseat and followed after the two. He also ignored the warmth he felt on his stupid cheeks.
…
Taehyung stood at the lobby of the Art Lab, waiting for Seokjin to come back. The oldest forgot to bring his keys so he had to run back to his studio to get them. Yoongi was currently talking to Jihyun who was just preparing to leave. Something about the conference room schedule, he wasn't sure. As much time as they spend together, they really don’t talk about work that much.
Taehyung!
Taehyung stiffened at the sound of the voice. There was only one person who sounded like that and it filled Taehyung with the same feelings he felt everytime he received the said person's unwanted gifts; annoyance and dread. What the hell is he doing here? He had half a mind to sprint to the elevator and hide there to avoid this unfortunate meeting, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him. He flinched and reluctantly faced the person, taking a few steps back to create much needed distance.
Seungjae. What are you doing here?
He asked through gritted teeth.
Seungjae stood there with his bleached blond hair slicked back and his sharp eyes oozing with pride. His surely expensive and crisp black suit and shiny leather shoes looked out of place in the gentle, welcoming aura of the building.
I was in the city and decided I should visit you. The receptionist said you weren't home, and I’m sure the museum is already closed. I called your grandma and told her I wanted to see you but couldn't find you and she said you might be here. So i'm here!
Seungjae explained, his smile never leaving his face, irritating Taehyung more. He continued speaking when Taehyung ignored him.
The Art Lab, huh? Sounds tacky. What are you doing here? Do you work here?
He asked, looking around the lobby. His gaze lingered on the crystal chandelier that made Seokjin very happy when it was finally installed. Seungjae shook his head and scoffed. It made Taehyung's blood boil. Really tacky.
Taehyung was just about to snap at the man when Yoongi came back to stand beside him.
Excuse me, can we help you?
Seungjae took a quick glance at Yoongi and with a very bored voice, said, No. We're fine here.
Yoongi glanced at Taehyung, his brows furrowed. Taehyung sighed heavily.
Yoongi hyung, this is Seungjae. Seungjae, this is Yoongi hyung, one of my best friends.
Taehyung introduced them, hands flitting between the two.
Yoongi's eyes sharpened in recognition. He offered his hand to Seungjae who shook it without much enthusiasm.
Taehyung, let's go out. I'll treat you to dinner.
Seungjae confidently stated, totally ignoring Yoongi's presence.
No, thanks. I have plans.
Taehyung was quick to shut his invitation down.
Nonsense. I heard about this place that sells the best chicken. Let's go.
Seungjae moved to grab Taehyung's hand but Yoongi stopped him.
He said no.
Yoongi used his intimidating voice. Low and cold, the one he always used when he wanted to scare someone off or when he wanted to look cool. He already has plans.
And why are you answering for him?
I'm not. I only repeated what he said. Seemed like you didn't hear.
Seungjae glared at Yoongi who only shrugged his shoulders lazily.
Come on, Taehyung. I wanna get out of this place.
Seungjae moved to grab him again but he took a step back this time.
I said no, thank you. I already have plans.
He repeated, his voice tight.
What plans? You don't look like you have somewhere to be.
Seungjae looked him up and down. Just come with me. You don’t have to change your clothes. I already told your grandma we're gonna eat together.
Seungjae took a step forward but Yoongi blocked his way, stepping in front of Taehyung.
Seungjae-ssi. Taehyung already said no. Not that you deserve to know but he has dinner plans with his boyfriend so please stop bothering my friend.
Taehyung's eyes widened. Boyfriend? He saw Seungjae's jaw clench, sharp eyes now trained at Yoongi.
What boyfriend?
His boyfriend. Oh, look he's here.
Taehyung glanced at the direction Yoongi was looking at. It was Seokjin, still in his blue sweater and faded jeans, smiling and bidding Jihyun good night as he made his way back to them. He looked so manly with his broad shoulders and hair pushed to the side, revealing his whole face but still looked soft with his fair skin, brown eyes and plush lips. The perfect definition of handsome. His looks contrasted with Seungjae’s, who was tanned, with bleached hair, rough features and a permanent scowl that only disappears when he sneers or when he's in front of Taehyung's family. It made Seokjin's soft features and genuine smiles all the more endearing. Taehyung didn't know what went on in his head when he decided to date Seungjae. He even lasted for a whole eight months.
That's your boyfriend?
Uh…
Yoongi sent him a quick look over his shoulder. I... yeah.
He said dumbly.
Seungjae actually laughed. Taehyung was unsure what it meant exactly but it was not a good thing, judging by the way Yoongi's eyes hardened.
Sorry about that. Oh, hi.
Seokjin turned to Seungjae, smiling and bowing his head. Taehyung wished Seokjin wasn't perfect all the time. I don’t think we’ve met before. I’m Seokjin.
Seungjae ignored Seokjin's introduction and addressed Taehyung instead.
Really? You're dating him? After you've dated me?
Huh?
Taehyung saw Seokjin's confused gaze land on him. He would have apologized to Seokjin, stopped whatever Yoongi was planning with this lie but the way Seungjae said those words made Taehyung angry. It sounded like he was implying that Taehyung downgraded when he dated Seokjin. As if Seokjin wasn't the epitome of the ideal boyfriend. They stood there, one as tall as the other, both had money and both had looks that made people stare but Taehyung knew Seungjae would never reach Seokjin's standards. He could never even dream of it. Seokjin was too perfect.
I know right. I can't believe I dated someone like you when I could have dated him from the start.
Seungjae's expression was worth the scolding he will definitely get from Seokjin later. He leaned over and grabbed Seokjin's hand, pulling him away from Seungjae.
We're leaving.
He dragged Seokjin towards the door, looking back only to check if Yoongi was following. Taehyung saw him smirking at Seungjae and uttered a lazy bye before trailing after them.
Will anyone explain to me what the hell was that about?
Seokjin asked, voice a little high with confusion and mild annoyance, after they reached the parking lot and made sure they were out of earshot.
I'm sorry, hyung. That was my ex.
Taehyung said sheepishly, looking down on the ground.
The one that cheated on you?
I only have one ex, hyung, so yes.
Right. But remind me, when did I become your boyfriend again?
Seokjin asked and Taehyung felt himself blush. Damn it. At least he didn't sound angry.
Well. I... uh…
He stammered. He didn't know how to explain it. He looked at Yoongi asking for his help because he was the one who started all of this, anyway.
He was being a jerk, not taking no for an answer and forcing Taehyung to leave with him so I told him Taehyung had dinner plans with his boyfriend.
Yoongi droned, looking incredibly unaffected. Like he didn't just lie to Taehyung's ex, who was friends with his grandmother, about Taehyung dating Kim Seokjin.
And you told him I was the boyfriend because?
Yoongi shrugged. You got perfect timing.
Seokjin snorted at that but didn't say anything else.
Taehyung worried his lip. Did he offend Seokjin? Was he angry? Is he uncomfortable that Taehyung's ex now thinks they're dating? Is dating Taehyung, even if it's only pretend, that horrible?
Was he too much of a jerk? He didn't hurt you, did he?
Seokjin's worried tone pulled Taehyung out of his thoughts.
No. No, hyung. He's just annoying like that. He's very stubborn. I'm glad Yoongi hyung was there. And you too. Thank you for playing along. I'm sorry we told him you're my b-boyfriend.
Taehyung silently chided himself for stuttering on the last word. What's wrong with me?
It's okay, VV. If he ever comes back to annoy you again, call me so I can take you away.
He felt his hand being squeezed and it was then that Taehyung realized he was still holding on to Seokjin's hand. They stopped in front of Seokjin and Yoongi's car that were parked side by side. He released Seokjin's hand and clenched his own, feeling it start to sweat.
Besides, playing your boyfriend doesn't seem so bad. Not bad at all. I don't mind.
Seokjin whispered and winked at Taehyung. He startled and stared at Seokjin with what he knew was a wide eyed expression. He must look funny, gaping like a fish out of water, because Seokjin chuckled before asking a very cheerful where are we gonna eat?. To which Yoongi answered I heard about this place that sells the best chicken. Taehyung would've laughed at Yoongi's joke if he wasn't so busy fighting his cheeks from forming the most intense blush he had ever had to conceal.
By the raised brows and amused smile Yoongi sent his way, it looked like he lost.
