Bad Ideas

Summary:

Obito asks Captain Kabuto for a favor. One Kabuto's pretty certain he's supposed to say no to.

Work Text:

"You said you could bring people back to life," Obito's voice is barley above a whisper when he speaks, his eyes starting down at the ground in front of him. "Is that-can you really do it?"

"Orochimaru taught me about the Edo Tensei when I was younger," Kabuto confirmed, peering at Obito from over top the report he was reading. "But I haven't attempted it in years. It required a living sacrifice and I've been avoiding needless murder since I left Orochimaru's side."

"Oh," playing with the edges of his shirt, obito sighed. "I was thinking-"

"Whatever it is, push it from your mind," Kabuto insisted. "I'm not doing it. We're in the middle of a war that needs all hands on deck. We can't..."

"But if we bring them back they can help, can't they?" Obito insisted, digging his heels in. "They're some of the strongest shinobi in the world. They could make a big difference in this war."

Kabuto would be lying if he said that didn't peek his interest.

"And who is it you're thinking of reanimating?" He asked, hoping that Naruto was no where nearby to hear this conversation. "And where do you expect to find living sacrifices? We can't just take anyone, especially during a war."

"There's scumbags all over the world," obito huffed. "It might take a while to find them, but they're the type of people who wouldn't help in the war anyways so we wouldn't be giving up shinobi in our ranks. We'd just be gaining some stronger ones"

An interesting idea, but Kabuto was still left with one question.

"Why?" Obito refused to meet his eyes. "Does this have to do with him?"

"I just...i have questions," Obito whispered "things that only they can answer."

"Because they're the one's who played a role in what happened?" When Obito nods his head, Kabuto can only sigh. "I don't supposed there's a way I could convince you to drop this?"

"I need to know," Obito insisted. "Not just for Kakashi, but for myself and everyone else as well. If I'm going to make the future better I need to know where we went wrong. The only people who can tell me that are the Hokage's. They were the one's who made all the decisions. Who set us on this path."

Determined as always.

Sighing, Kabuto set down the report he had been reading and turned to face Obito. "We'll need as many human sacrifices as you want me to reanimate Hokage's, so if you want all four past Hokage's I'll need four living sacrifices," he explained. "Are you alright with that?"

"I am," Obito nodded his head. "And I've even found some people we could use. We just have to get them."

Clearly Obito had been thinking this out for a while. Kabuto just hoped it would be worth it in the end.

"In that case, let's go," he said softly. "Before Naruto finds out and stops us."

It didn't leave him with a good feeling deep down inside, knowing he'd be leaving behind his Senpai during a war. But this was something Obito needed him to do, and there was no way he'd be useful on the battle field with something this big on his mind.
