They had done it.
Even with everything that happened, all of the people who had tried to stop them, they managed to succeed.
Team seven had passed the first round of their chunin exams, and was moving on to the second round.
"We did it!" Throwing his hands into the air, Obito beamed over at his teammates. "We made it to the next round!"
"You act as if that's a surprise," Kakashi huffed, his hand clasped over his right shoulder now that they had a chance to relax. "Of course we did."
"Oh, don't act like it was an obvious win," bumping her hip against Kakashi, Rin chuckled when he glared over at her. "Really, if it hadn’t been for Gai-kun we would have probably..."
"This is our win, Rin," Obito grumbled, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring over at the green clad shinobi in question. "We didn't need his help to win."
"Say's the man who was unconscious during part of the fight," rolling his eyes, Obito turned away from his teammates with a grunt. "Come on, Obito. Go over and say thank you."
"Not a chance," he refused. No matter what he wouldn't do it. He'd just have to prove to Rin he could handle himself in the next round. "Come on, Kakashi. Support me here. We could have w-"
Before he could finish his sentence, Obito heard a thud directly behind him. The sound of someone collapsing to the ground. He wanted to turn around, but his body wouldn't move no matter how hard he tried.
All he could do was stand there with a sick, sinking feeling deep inside of his chest. As if he already knew who it was that had fallen.
"Kakashi!" Rin's cry confirmed it, and the feeling in Obito's chest grew stronger. Making his stomach churn and the colour to drain from his face. "Kakashi! Kakashi wake up!"
Slowly, Obito turned his head and felt his stomach drop.
There, laying on the ground, was Kakashi. Unconscious and unresponsive to Rin's pleas for him to wake up.
"Move!" Naruto-sensei's voice rang out over the crowd as he pushed his way to his team. “What happened?”
Opening his mouth to speak, Obito found himself unable to produce any words. Not just because he couldn’t get rid of the sick feeling deep inside of his chest, but because he really didn’t know the answer. He had taken such a hard hit when they were attacked that he missed most of what happened, only being able to focus on the fight again after Gai had shown up.
When Kakashi was already unconscious.
“We were attacked in the forest,” The words fell from Rin’s mouth with ease. Her body is already moving back to allow Naruto-Sensei to lift Kakashi into his arms. “The person wasn’t part of the exams. He was there in disguise. He bit Kakashi and…”
“A name,” Naruto-sensei cut her off. “Did this person have a name?”
“Danzo,” Obito speaks in a whisper, remembering the moment that the man had laughed at their attempts to protect Kakashi and told them his name. Told them that no one in Konoha could stop him from getting what he wanted. “His name is Danzo.”
There’s not a moment in the last few months where Obito can recall his Sensei ever looking so angry. Almost as if he were about to rip his way through the entire village and possibly even the rest of the world until he found the man who had hurt Kakashi.
Until he got his hands on the man who called himself ‘Danzo’.
“Go celebrate your victory,” his voice is calm when he speaks again, but there anger is still there. Clear as day on his face. “I’ll take Kakashi to the hospital.”
Before either him or Rin could protect, their sensei was gone. Leaving the two of them standing there in a crowded room with all eyes on them, silently wondering if their team mate would be alright.
