I was on the Bakerloo line sweating my soul out of my pores because fuck ventilation right? Trying desperately to find a seat, but it was my hour of need, so of course there was nothing. Luckily, I'm small so I just hunched against the door like a squishy miserable goblin.

The whole carriage was swampy and revolting and my phone was down to 3%, so I just closed my eyes and tried to cope with it for the four stops I needed to be on it for. Then the doors opened and I heard someone say, “It’s this one,” in Thai.

My mum is Thai, but apart from her and my sister at home, I only hear it occasionally out in the world, so it caught my attention. I was also grateful to have someone to secretly eavesdrop on to distract from my whole long terrible day.

There wasn't much breathing room in the carriage, and both of them were significantly taller than the squirrels the tube was originally made for, so while my head was comfortably below where the door curves inward, they were forced to struggle. Luckily, they were quite cozy…

I think they were early 20s, dressed for the heat, and talking to each other in Thai about T's upcoming flight back to Bangkok. W apparently lives here in London. Suddenly, the carriage jerked, so W put his hand on T's waist and guided him until his back was against the door.

T frowned and said, "What're you doing?" and W told him, "Just lean back, use the door," before continuing their conversation. At the next stop, I bunched up against the support pole to let people off, and on their side, W casually pulled T closer into his arms to make more room.

There was a bit more space in the carriage afterward, but our charming couple apparently decided it was comfier for them to stay close. T put his feet between W's and settled low against the door, and W started running his thumb up and down T's side. Nice couple, very sweet.

I scrolled Instagram on my phone until it made the violent choice to plummet from 3% to 1%, then I quickly put it away. T had his head on W's shoulder now with his eyes closed, and as the train slowed and the noise got quieter, I heard W actually s i n g i n g into T's ear.

A white man in his mid-twenties was "accidentally" bumping into W's back as the carriage swayed, and T must have felt it and noticed. W seemed content to ignore it, but I saw murder in T's eyes. That guy definitely imagined seven life-in-prison crimes in four seconds.

Then, in maybe the smoothest move I've ever seen WORK outside of a movie, T put his arm tight around W's waist and swung him around against the door to swap their places. Please remember: these carriages are SMALL. This was OLYMPIC level smoothness. Full Disclosure: I swooned.

I wasn't expecting it, W wasn't expecting it, and the interloper DEFINITELY wasn't expecting it. Everyone but T was stunned, while T just kept glowering over his shoulder directly at the interloper until the doors opened and the coward scampered off to cause problems elsewhere.

W started laughing, which drew a few frowns from around him, and T joined in frowning at him as well. W said, "You know that wasn't really bothering me, right?" and T huffed, "Him TRYING to bother you bothered me"—the cutest or not? (There IS a wrong answer there.)

UPDATE: One of their friends recognized them from this thread and DM'd me!!! Apparently W is getting his master's here and the flight they were talking about is actually a flight for BOTH of them because T came here to bring W home! I wasn't listening super closely so I misheard.
