Work Text:

Rain softly hit the roof of the house, creating a serene atmosphere. Well, it would be serene if there wasn’t a group of moth children screeching at Abbachio’s feet. He thought that he would maybe get some writing done for once, and the rain really set the mood. As soon as he sat down though, the door to the kids’ room burst open and out came the lil bastards.

As usual, most of the noise was from Narancia, (that child’s screeches were something else) who was currently being tackled by Mista, who was also screeching.

At least Fugo had the sense to at least try to quiet them down, but that meant he was also screeching at them. Abbacchio rubbed his temples and put his notebook down, giving up on writing. The only one not screeching was Giorno, who was- wait.

Where was Giorno?

He was usually attached to either Bruno or one of the kids, and considering Bruno was still asleep (somehow), that meant that Giorno should be with one of the little gremlins.

A quick look around the room showed no signs of the little moth. Abbacchio was a little worried (although he never would actually admit that). He stood up and made his way to the kids’ room, hoping to find him there.

Luckily, Giorno was there. Strangely, he was at the window, staring intently at the rain.

“He likes the rain because that means there will be frogs outside.” Bruno had snuck up behind Abbacchio, startling him.

Abbacchio tried (and failed) to not jump at his voice. He gathered himself before replying, “Well, why not take him outside to look for frogs?”

Bruno tilted his head in confusion, “It’s...raining?”

“Yeah.”

“He’ll get wet!”

“He’ll dry.”

Bruno thought it over for a moment, “He gets cold easily, the rain is probably cold.”

“I got rain jackets and some rain boots when I went shopping for some clothes so they could go out in public.” Abbacchio supplied.

Bruno sighed, “I guess it wouldn’t hurt to let him go outside.”

Abbacchio grinned, “Good, why don't we take the other gremlins out too while we’re at it?”

——

To say the kids were ecstatic would be an understatement. As soon as the door opened they all zoomed out, Narancia somehow already muddy.

The hardest part was getting them all to wear rain boots. In the end, Abbacchio could only convince Girono to wear the boots. Giorno waddled across the yard eagerly in search of a frog. Mista and Narancia were currently wrestling in the mud, which meant bath time for them later (which will be a struggle, as always). Fugo was busy watching over Giorno to make sure he didn’t wander too far.

Bruno sat down next to Abbacchio under the safety of the porch, “They do seem to be having fun, don’t they?”

Abbacchio nodded, “Sometimes you just gotta let kids be kids, even if getting them clean later is gonna be a bitch.”

Bruno lightly slapped him on the shoulder, “Language!”

Abbacchio was about to make a quip back at him when they both heard excited chirping.

“Bruno!” Fugo called, “Gio found a frog!”

Bruno smiled in Fugo’s direction, “Oh? Let me see!” He got up and started making his way over to the duo.

Abbacchio sighed and got up to go investigate as well.

The smile on Giorno’s face as he held the frog had the power to do anything. He was enamored with the slimy beast in his grasp. His chirps were almost adorable, Abbacchio hated to admit.

“Abba!” Bruno slapped his shoulder excitedly, “Take a picture, please! I haven’t seen him this happy in a while!”

“Fine, fine.” Abbacchio rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone to snap a picture.

No one mentioned the little grin on Abbacchio’s face as he took the picture.

——

Later, after the children had been bathed (not without a fight, mind you), they all rested in the living room. For once it was quiet, Mista and Narancia long since passed out.

Rain softly hit the roof of the house, creating a serene atmosphere. Well, it would be serene if it weren’t for the loud croak that came from Giorno’s direction.

Everyone awake looked to Giorno as the frog from earlier hopped out of his hoodie pocket. He looked mortified.

Bruno laughed, “I think Giorno has a new pet!”

“I’m not feeding that thing!” Abbacchio snapped.

That night, Abbacchio secretly googled “Frog care.”
