Chapter Text
After introductions were made, we all spread throughout the cave. I sat on the same couch as I did last time and Laddie joined me, playing with his toys. Dwayne and Paul sat with us and David and Michael were over by David’s ‘Throne’. Sam and Marko seemed to be getting along quite nicely, which I was happy for. Star had placed herself on her bed, watching us through her sheer curtains. I could practically taste her fear and paranoia.
I noticed that Mike kept taking glances at Star and he had a sad look at the fact that she was terrified of him now.
I turned back to Dwayne and Paul, both asking me questions about different things in my life. Paul was actually intelligent, totally different from the way he acted. Although, he’s still a pothead.
“Where were you born?” Paul asked curiously as he leaned back into the couch he was sitting on.
“I was born in what is now considered Ancient Greece around... 1000 BC I think” I frowned in thought. “I think I was born in Athens.”
Paul looked at me in awe. “Can you speak Greek?”
I laughed and nodded. “Yes, I can speak many languages. Most of the dead languages too.”
“Why learn so many?” Dwayne asks with his head tilted curiously.
“I find cultures interesting. I like learning new things so languages have never been a problem with me.” I shrug and smile at them.
Dwayne had a subtle grin gracing his face. Paul had a crooked smile as he crossed his arms.
David stood up a moment later and looked at me. I looked up at him from my spot with an eyebrow raised. “Yes?” I asked with small grin.
He grinned. “Ready to meet Max?” He stood there with his hands in his pockets, softly swishing his coat back and forth. I grew serious as I locked eyes with Michael, who had the same look on his face. Sam looked over and looked between me and Mike. I sighed and stood up.
“I guess.” I grinned sardonically. I then leaned down to kiss Laddie on his head which he smiled widely up at me. I grinned and turned to walk over to Michael and Sam, who had walked over to stand next to him. I put my hands on their shoulders and shook them gently. “Let’s go brothers.”
David shook his head and glanced at his brothers before turning to Star. “Watch Laddie, you can go to the boardwalk but make sure you are watching your backs.” He ordered the girl. She nodded a little and David came over to follow us out.
My brothers and I got into my car while the Boys got onto the bikes. I revved my engine as the Boys started up their bikes.
--
After driving for a little while, we arrived at a modern looking house with a small bridge and a gate in the front. I parked my car next to the Boys and got out with my brothers. We glanced at each other for a moment and nodded, knowing that whatever happens we need to be prepared for the worst.
David and the Boys walked over to the gate and opened it and started to head over the bridge to the front door which was glass and had soft light coming from a lamp just inside. My brothers and I walked behind them and looked around the area.
I made sure it didn’t look like I was taking in everything around us and being cautious of our situation. I made myself look as relaxed as possible, with my hands in my jacket pockets and a relaxed walk over the wooden boards of the bridge. Michael was also taking in his surroundings and stood relaxed.
David stood in front of the door and knocked. After a moment of Paul and Marko softly joking around, the sound of the door opening made the area silent.
The man stood there with a friendly smile, although I could tell he was trying a little too hard at the whole friendly charade. I quickly observed him and took in his ‘modern’ style. He wore thick square glasses, which I was sure were fake. His clothes were a mix of soft colors and beige and he wore khakis with dress shoes. His brown hair was cut short and parted down the middle.
I squinted softly was he stepped aside to let the Boys in and then looked at me and my brothers curiously. “You must be Farah that David told me about.” He said with a smile on his face.
“Yes, I go by Farah Emerson and these are my brothers; Michael and Sam.” I waved my hands to my brothers who flanked my sides. I folded my hands in front of my body and smiled softly. I saw a flash of recognition in his eyes as he gave no outside flags that he knew my last name.
“It’s nice to meet you three. I’m Max.” He gives no last name but he steps aside to let us in and watches us curiously as we walk forward.
I notice that he doesn’t give verbal admittance into the house but I smirk as I take a step in confidently because I knew since he was the owner of the house and being one of the undead, I could just walk in.
I watch his face and his tension doesn’t show but I could see his jaw clench. When all of us made our way into the house, Sam and Mike stood with me as we examined the living room and the other four were near the couches. David leaning against it with his arms crossed.
Max closes the door behind us and turns to us and lends out a hand to me to shake. I put a hand out and shake his hand with a firm grip. We let go.
“If I had known another coven had taken residence here, I would have done my research.” I said, trying to seem more political.
“Oh, we only moved here in the last decade or so.” He waves off. I hear behind me the Boys had made themselves at home, except for David who stood with my brothers a few feet away. Dwayne stood next to the couch that Paul and Marko now sat on.
“I’ve been told you’ve taken an interest in one of my coven members” I state. I watch as his brow frowns briefly, glancing at David. I internally smirk, David had forgotten to tell him Lucy was part of my pack.
“I...” He pauses and gathers his words as he blinks in thought. “I wasn’t aware she was a part of your... coven. I can’t tell how to notice one of your kind. It has been years since I’ve come across one of your kind.” He put his hands in his pockets and tries to relax.
“I noticed... when you’re Boys told me that they didn’t know there was multiple kinds of Vampires out there. You must not be that old to know that every species is told to educate their packmates of the different kinds of vampires. I would say within the last 300 years.” I tilted my head and smiled.
He frowns, “Who are you to tell me how to educate my Bo-”
“A three-thousand-year-old Original.... that’s who...” I raised an eyebrow and set my face into a serious mask.
His angry form settled and he gulped as he took in a deep breath. “I apologize...”
He glances away and I notice that his stance has now gone fearful.
I keep my head tilted and smirk deeply at him. This will be a lovely chat.
-
Standing in front of this tall vampire, I put my hands behind my back and smirked.
"At first, I thought maybe you must be protecting them by keeping this information from them...” I started as I stared into his eyes intently with anger.
Max looked confused and shook his head. “I... I did” He glanced at his boys. David stood next to the couch that the other three were lounged in. Michael and Sam stood behind me but further back so not to crowd me. Michael smirked and watched him intently with his hands at his sides, ready if Max decided to attack. Sam had a deep frown but had his hands in his jacket pockets as he looked relaxed.
I raised my eyebrows with a small smile. “Oh... but from what I gathered from the Frog brothers... you were planning on having the two boys kill them...” I said slowly with a smirk on my face as I watched his face drop. His eyes widened and his mouth opened and closed a few times.
“Wha-what! No! I would never! These are my boys! I would-I would never do that!” He stammered out in a rush. The other boys grew quiet as they heard what I said.
Glancing at David, I saw his face grow into betrayal and anger and confusion as he looked from Me to Max.
Max looked from me to my brothers and over to the other four in apprehension. Becoming more nervous and anxious.
Without looking back at Sam, “Sam, would you go get our new friends...”
Sam didn’t say a word as he sped off to go get the Frog brothers.
The silence after I spoke thickened. Not even the Boys were making any noise. They watched with bated breath. The two that had sat down were standing with the other two in a line, watching us.
Max looked back and forth from each person before reaching up and adjusting his collar.
“You also look familiar... your name rang a bell too. But I gave the benefit of the doubt.” I said with a serious look on my face. I was growing angry. “You see, I’ve come across a couple of your kind over the years. And they told me stories over the years. There had been a vampire that has been wanted by their government... and he has evaded them over the last few centuries. They had told me that he changes his name but it’s always similar, and he had been changing people every few decades and when his new family doesn’t turn out how he wanted... Well, he kills them.”
I had started to slowly pace around him, making him become fidgety. His scent was starting to stink of fear and panic.
Narrowing his eyes at me, he watched me as I continued. “The names he’s gone by are, Maximus, Maxim, Maximillian... Maxwell...” I finished with a small fake pout.
Licking my lips, I hear Sam come back behind me from the door. Dragging in Alan and Edgar, who were still under compulsion. For a single moment, I held eye contact with Max before turning around and walking over to Alan. I pulled him close and pulled him into a compulsion.
“Alan, tell the group what you told me.” I said with a small smile.
Alan, in a hypnotic state, spoke in a monotone. “Max came into the shop last year with a few comics for us to read. He told us that the vampires in the comics were real and that he had a job for us and he was going to train us to take care of them. He told us and pointed the guys out to show us which ones were the vampires and that we needed to train to take them out. Max told us that it was his job to find new hunters and train them. He would meet up with his daughter and she would watch as he taught us everything, we needed to know how to kill a vampire.”
Alan finished and stood there in silence.
The silence was deafening.
Max stared at the two “hunters” in horror.
“Now, daughter?” I looked up and put my finger to my chin to pretend I was in thought. “You didn’t have a daughter... but then I thought... Star.” I looked at him and his jaw clenched as he grew tense, accepting the fact that we caught him. “Star was helping you... because she hates them. She didn’t want to be like this but you made them draw her in and try to turn her. But she doesn’t know it was you that told them to. I can sense the hate and self-loathing off of her as she looked at the boys when we saw them for the first time.”
During this whole time, the four boys were growing tenser at all the new information that was presented to them. I could hear them deeply growling from the couches as I looked up the vampire.
“If there is one thing I know in your government, is that it is punishable by death for the murder of another vampire.”
He took in a deep breath before letting it out. He grew angrier and I watched his true face come out as he got pissed. “You fucking bitch! I had it all planned out and everything. It was perfect! Lucy was going to be my mate-!”
I cut him off with a snarl and sped over to press him against the wall with my strength. My hand was wrapped around his neck as he struggled. “Mate?! HA!” I gave out a fake laugh and sneered in his face. “Lucy’s husband died last year! You don’t even compare to him! Our kind don’t have mates... we fall in love... sometimes multiple times. Your kind might have mates, but you would never even be on the same league as her!” I shoved him and his head hit the wall and it crumbled from the impact.
I sighed and took a step back, “Under the jurisdiction of your Government and wanted by your Constable, I give your boys the honor to end your life.” I stated formally. I turned and saw the four boys had started to walk over to Max who wilted back against the wall.
“Wait! Wait! Boys, come on! You’re really going to believe some random vampire that just got here or are you going to trust me!” He pleaded with them as he looked from each boy to the other. The boys had their vampire faces out as they advanced on him with David in the lead.
“I always knew there was something you weren’t tell us... should have known that you were going to do something. Pushing Star on me to try to be my mate... but I wouldn’t take the bait.” David’s voice was deeper in anger as he stood in front of Max. “I will say this... you gave me my brothers... and that’s the only redeeming thing about this whole situation.” David smirked as the boys moved to circle him against the wall. “Goodbye Max.”
Michael, Sam and I sat on one of the couches and watched the show. Mike leaned back and threw his arm over the back of the couch as Sam took a magazine from the coffee table. I got comfortable with my arms crossed over my chest and a smirk gracing my face.
David rushed to rip Max’s head from his body as Max pled for his life with his hands out in a placid manner.
